Surprisingly after ordering some Star Trek DVD's (#2, #3 and #4 movies
trilogy) and paid via Paypal, Paypal Credit offered me a significant
credit line. I wouldn't spend the $1500.00 they allotted me, but I did
charge $168.00 to get all Dark Shadows Big Finish CD Audio Dramas! They
are coming today via UPS. I can hardly wait to hear them.
Big Finish is in the UK and I thought I'd have to fool with converting
money but their website showed 3 dealers in the US that carries them. I
ordered from one in Indianapolis and I live I NY (northern) so don't
have to pay sales tax. The s&h was a bit steep at $10.00, but I'll be
glad to have them all. I've wanted them for a long time. It's my
birthday on June 29th so a present to myself. I'm all alone, so I do
that.
I already got Return To Collinwood, the audio drama several cast members
performed at the 2004 convention and then recorded for CD the next day.
It is extraordinary and I highly recommend it. You may find it on eBay,
Half.com, Amazon.com. I know I didn't pay much for it but can't recall.
These Big Finish productions are not in ordinary websites or stores.
Mostly specialties in slightly weird stuff. And our beloved Dark
Shadows and our obsessions with it, yes slightly weird to most.
So I am up, unable to sleep at 3:30 am even after taking xanax. Guess
I'm just too excited about them coming.
Recently acquired DS Collections 7 and 10. I think that leaves only 11
I need and I'll be complete. Even have all The Beginnings which are
fabulous).
Tonight was watching Collection 10 discs, where Willie had Maggie shut
up in the mausoleum and Julia brought Eve to life for Adam's mate.
Barnabas sure was sweating things out during those, but good old Nicolas
took care of Carolyn and Maggie's memory was erased forever. But
Nicholas has his own agenda. Just finished when he sends Adam upstairs
to get vampire Angelique to give her permission to distract Barnabas.
Never a dull moment and I even loved the Leviathan story and PT 1841.
So yes I am a seasoned DS viewer, seen the entire run many times. Never
get sick of it. My very first exposure was Barnabas walling up the
Reverand Trask back in 1795, my time 1968 or 69. Now THAT---- caught my
attention on a rainy summer day at our camp lake in northeast VT where
it came on in a syndication of a few months delay. They used kinescope
versions for selling to non-ABC daytime markets. This station came
from portland Maine on a very weak channel 6 signal. It was a very
snowy Dark Shadows but you definitely knew what was going on.
Thereafter followed it in its real current time slot back at home an
hour away in central Vermont. Again we received the 4 pm ABC signal
poorly from another Maine station, channel 8 poland Springs. Until a
new ABC station started up right in VT in later 1969, WVNY channel 22
from Burlington with excellent reception.
No cable came to my VT hometown until 1980, but was thrilled to be able
to video tape DS from the Sci Fi channel. now I'm going to throw all
those home recorded Dark Shadows video tapes AWAY because I have the
DVD's.
Grayson Hall as Dr Julia Hoffman was my favorite character, Barnbas a
close second and Pansy Faye played by Nancy Barret gets honorable
mention. But I loved everybody on the show (some more than others).
Have met many of them at conventions, including Jonathan Frid, Joan
Bennett, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker, Diana Millay, Terry Crawford,
Chris Pennock, Roger Davis, Michael Stroka and others. Poured a cup of
water for a very old Louis Edmonds - Roger at the last one I attended in
1995, he was very friendly.
I have not met David Selby, Nancy Barrett, not sure about John Karlen.
Not met Donna Wandrey, Sharon Smyth or Denise Nickerson and none of us
met David Henesy since he does not want to deal with it, out of acting
now. I think it's ultra-terrific Dark Shadows is still going so strong
as I reach 55 years old. And I've been delighted knowing there were so
many others out in the world caught up in this parallel world (hated
seeing Elizabeth get murdered by her own brother there, same with
Carolyn). But what a terrific story that all was and the future story
that came right behind it was more than awesome. That Gerard ghost was
far creepier than Quentin ghost ever tried to be. But he was even as a
ghost, in reality, Judah Zachary the warlock who made Angelique a witch
in 1692.
I have wished if the show had lasted, Count Petofi would have returned.
Thayer David's portrayal of him was pure genius, as were all his roles.
I think both Tom Jennings and Dirk Wilkins made scarier vampires than
Barnabas and Roxanne too! Altho Barnabas was scary in the beginning, I
mean the way they carried themselves.
If anyone here wants my tapes we could work something out for shipping
and handling. Otherwise they'll be trashed.
Oh well, posting relaxed me and I'm yawning so maybe can sleep now. It's
5 past 4 am.
