Sly appeared in a bathing suit at least once. One of my favorite Sly
scenes was the time she was lounging around her building's pool in a
bikini when Cliff Barnes approached and said he could use his supposed
influence with the D.A.'s office to get a better parole deal for Sly's
never-seen brother. Sly, no dummy, realized that Cliff wanted
something in return and said with a sigh, "Okay, let's go up to my
apartment and get it over with." Cliff, surprised, said that he didn't
want to *sleep* with her -- he wanted her to spy on J.R. for him.
Indignant, Sly replied, "I won't do *that*!"
SPOILER BELOW
Sly did sleep with J.R. -- once. It has not happened yet on the
current TNN airings.

As for the ladies of DALLAS. Sue Ellen always looked pretty good for her age.
Afton, Pam, and Cally all looked good through the series. Katherine Wentworth

Haven't you heard the old adage that a woman who sleeps around is a
slut, but a man who does it is a stud?
Seriously though, there would never have been any need for JR to
"go elsewhere" if Sue Ellen weren't a disloyal drunk in the first
place.
Sue Ellen never appreciated the fact that, without JR, she never would
have amounted to anything. She'd have been a washed-out pageant vixen,
drunk and penniless in the gutter.

When you're talking about a 40 year old woman, the difference between
having an affair with an 18-or-20-year-old boy is moot.
> I don't think that Swellen's sleeping with Cliff makes her disloyal.
You're forgetting about Dusty. And possibly Clayton, the man her
son calls "grandpa". Not to mention JR's brother Ray. Even if he
was a halfbreed, that's still mighty disloyal.
And how could we forget her sleeping with that loser bum on the

DALLAS characters have too many loves of their life. Sue Ellen loved JR, no
matter what she said. She also claimed to love Cliff. She loved Dusty, who I
think was her only true love other then JR. She also loved Nicholas Pierce,
and she also loved Don Lockwood, although I think that was more of a "I need
somebody" kind of love.
Bobby too. He loved Pam, Jenna, April, Kay Lloyd, he kind of loved Tracey,
Julia Cummingham, and now he will have a new love in the new movie.
Too many people also fall in love with Bobby. April, Jenna, Pam, Katherine
Wentworth, Holly Harwood, Connie (His first secretary), Kay Lloyd and so on and
so forth.
Atleast JR doesn't claim to love all his women.

DALLAS

If your argument that "Swellen is a slut" is based on "she slept with
a number of people," then what do you make of J.R.? The list of people
whom Swellen slept with is far smaller than the list of people he
slept with. And including the passage about "a teenage boy" makes the
argument specious. Adding a teenage boy to the mix does not
automatically move someone into the "slut" category -- even if Peter
Richards was a teenage boy when they slept together, which he probably
was not.
I don't think that Swellen's sleeping with Cliff makes her disloyal.
She took lovers only when J.R. was abusive, and he blamed her for her
infidelities, whereas he tried to justify his own by saying "that was
just business." As Bobby pointed out in the elevator episode, that's a
load of self-justifying crap.

Well yes I have and I have found that the ppl who utter such crap are
intimidated by women and therfor feel they must have them sexualy
inorder to make up their own feelings of inatiquacy. These men are
almost always the same men who fantasize about rape and little children
aswell as porn freaks.

You must be completly sick! Even Larry Hagman will admit that JR and his
sexual life style was that of a sick man. It is fun to watch these lives
evolve only because it is fiction. Men that behave like Jr only get sick
and die alone at heart even with a bimbo by there side. Jr was fucking
around on Sue Ellen way before she drank or even thought of being with
another man. REMEMBER Cliff was the FIRST affair she had. But I bet you
anything JR was sleeping around even in the pilot.

You are correct Eric! Peter was 19.

BULLSHIT! Ok using your math lets see... 40 yearold Sue Ellen and 19
yearold Peter VS. 45+ JR and 22-24yearold Cally....hmmmm you must be an

You haven't invalidated my point. The fact that an individual slept
with a much-younger individual does not automatically brand the older
person a slut.

I'm not forgetting about Dusty. Her sleeping with Dusty doesn't
constitute disloyalty either. As for Clayton -- for the umpteenth
time, Swellen did not sleep with him. And even if she had, that was
years before he became John Ross's stepgrandfather. Sleeping with Ray
also does not constitute disloyalty.
>And how could we forget her sleeping with that loser bum on the

In the first place, that happened only in Pam's dream. In the second
place, perhaps you are not aware that alcoholism is a disease, and
Swellen was suffering from it at the time. Nothing in Swellen's
character indicates that she would sleep with a stranger under
"normal" circumstances.

What makes this particular case so damning for Sue Ellen is the fact
that she slept with somebody who had become a big-brother figure to
her son. Toward the end, she was using her own sun as an excuse to
see her boytoy. How low.

I for one think it's very telling that Pam's opinion of Sue Ellen was
low enough for her to dream that Sue Ellen would end up living in a
gutter and sleeping with any bum who gives her booze.
Pam was an honest person, would you not agree? I therefore put more
stock in her opinion of Sue Ellen as a boozer than I do in attempts
to show otherwise.

Actually, definiting slut as someone you bang for the fun of it, rather
than for some emotional reason (like love)...
JR is a SUPER SLUT, while Sue Ellen is a fairly minor slut. We have JR's
word that she was a hot sex machine, but what we've "witnessed" would seem
to fall within the range of normal. JR from the beginning right up to the
movie is definitely a slut of major league proportions.
While some of us may have a fling, JR made it a career. Only Marilee
Stone is anywhere near his league on the show.
Sue Ellen a slut...she sure wouldn't have been with me. Maybe with that
Alex the eye-darting, head-twitching toad who is after Cally. She would
be his first human conquest.
She loved or atleast said to have loved CLiff when she was divroced from JR the

Im not exactly sure who is saying what here, but hold the hell up, Sue
Ellen NEVER slept with Clayton and WHEN did she sleep with Ray ? I dont
Since JR is such a spring chicken himself, that is right kind of him.
(But it would pleasure Cally greatly if he called Vanessa an OLD HAG
and be done with her.)
Swellen and J.R. are both sluts. They slept around. They broke their vows.
Their reasons (business, drunken stupor, attraction, revenge, etc.) are
irrelevant.
She'd have to be drunk to sleep with Ray! :)
All of this Sue Ellen bashing is ridiculous!!!Sue Ellen's character
was someone who lived her life trying to please her husband
and having the ultimate goal of being loved by him to make up
for the love she didn't have for herself!Sue Ellen would have
NEVER have cheated on JR if he didn't mentally abuse her and
sleep with all the tramps in Dallas. While he had 8 years of affairs
with prostitutes, women in Waco, and his secretary...she was home
doing what her Mama brought her up to do...being the best wife
she could possibly be. It wasn't until Bobby and Pam were married
that she realized what a marriage should truly be and she then
felt cheated. After years of abuse..Sue Ellen did then have her
first affair. It doesn't make it right....but it also doesn't make
JR the hero and Sue Ellen the slut. Sue Ellen was looking for someone
to love her...while JR was looking for a good time or a business
deal closer!!
I think people should get their facts straight before they claim
Sue Ellen slept with Clayton and a man off the streets while she
was drunk....Of course..this could prove that all of the other
nonsense that was said by this person was just about as credible
as those facts!

I recall the circumstances quite differently. Toward the end, it was
Peter obsessively pursuing Sue Ellen. She was doing her best to
totally avoid contact with him. Peter was using John Ross as an
excuse to see Sue Ellen.

There's not much credibility in the assumption that we were seeing Sue
Ellen through Pam's eyes. Those episodes aired early in the season -
long before the writers decided that the season would be Pam's dream.

I was just addressing the excuse given me. I agree that it was too
early to be written off as something written for the dream
specifically.

Exactly. Meaning it was just routine writing of the Sue Ellen
character.
Thanks for lending a hand...

Yes, but it is far more witty and entertaining than that chat line crap.
Chris and Sly get my vote for most amusing newsgroup bout of the week.

that...)

I think so. As a matter of fact, even though Swellen was an alcoholic
and started drinking again just before Pam went to sleep, when Pam
woke up Swellen did *not* continue drinking, reportedly because Linda
Gray asked that her character not have to go through that again.
True, Swellen stopped drinking after Pam woke from that year-long dream, but
not until after J.R. tosses her a bottle of hooch. She thought about emptying
the bottle, but finally stood her ground, and plotted to get rid of Mandy
Winger without all those gawd-awful hangovers.

If Suellen slept with Ray, which I do not recall, she did it not knowing
that Ray was JR's half brother. JR had full knowledge that Kristin was
Suellen's sister, yet he made her his mistress. That is the definition
of disloyalty.
*Mindy
I agree. Kristin was a very disloyal sister.
That's just one more thing that she and Sue Ellen had in common.
