The ad ran during the mid-to-late-1970s. In it, Jim Davis (the actor
who played Jock Ewing on "Dallas") is riding a cable car in San
Francisco. He swings down from it, enters a townhouse, and gets coffee
(and Coffee-Mate, of course) from a cabinet while we hear his voiceover,
which goes something like this:
"Hmm, nice place. Nice of Bob to let me use it. What's this? Coffee-Mate
non-dairy creamer? Sure makes the coffee taste good. I'm gonna remember
Coffee-Mate."
I have tried looking at the Museum of Television & Radio, I've called the
manufacturer -- hell, I've even tried asking Jim Davis's WIDOW if she
might have a tape of the spot. No dice.
If you have a copy (or know someplace that does), please e-mail me
directly.
Thanks,

Wow, you reminded me of something I hadn't seen in years. That commercial
made an impression on me at the time. I hated Coffee-Mate but that
commercial really came across as believeable and was very nicely done.
Wish I could help you. Would some back issues of Advertising Age tell you
the agency that did it? Business schools or good libraries should have
them. Maybe the agency has an archive copy. I expect the company
(Carnation?) would have lost theirs long ago...

The agency apparently was folded into another (and perhaps another after
that), from what I've heard, and apparently nobody kept archives.
Carnation itself has been no help at all.
Everybody has their "holy grail" impossible-to-find object, and I think
this TV commercial may turn out to be mine...especially since it aired
a few years before VCRs were widely available to the public.
But somebody's GOTTA have a copy SOMEWHERE!
