The above subject line was the headline in USA Today's Life section
(2/28/97) regarding NBC's "Crisis Center" starring KM. Matt Roush, the
regular reviewer of new shows, was a huge fan of "Christy" who took every
opportunity to chide CBS for sabataging it, urging them to bring
"Christy" back before and after its cancelation.

Excerpts from his review:
"I'd rather watch reruns than a single new episode of something as
insipid as this thing called Crisis Center....
"The good news is, it stars KM--you know, the girl from LGO and
Christy--who's her usual adorable and earnest self. The bad news: She's
typecast as a college intern answering phones and counseling clients at
the San Francisco Asistance Center, a dumping ground for all manner of
melodramatic cliches.
"In the big finish to tonight's ridiculous pilot, she delivers a baby
w/ spina bifida to an unwed couple while a crazed gunman holds the clinic
hostage while a gaggle of unclaimed (and, earlier, unclothed) Vietnamese
kids cover....
"Even worse is her boss, Matt Roth, badly channeling Anthony Edwards,
as he spouts lines such as, 'We have to believe that what we do matters,
if just one person walks out of there better off, then we're making a
difference.'
"...If NBC wanted to clone its sitcoms, you'd think it could aim higher
than Suddenly Susan and The Naked Truth.

I didn't watch last night. Some of you curiosity seekers, do you concur
w/ MR's opine?

I agree with the reviewer. The show started off slow and seemed to
lack something. I'm not sure KM can hold a series on her own.
Sometimes I feel her acting is always a bit too earnest. I loved
Christy though and have liked her in everything else I've seen. If I
were to watch this show again, it would have to change a lot.

Hi Everyone,

I must admit that I didn't care for the show very much and considered
it a poor clone of ER. The only reason I watched the entire show is
because I wanted to see how Scott Michael Campbell's (Lundy) role
compared to his former one in "Christy." Perhaps I need to watch a
few more episodes before I can give a true assessment but usually it
only takes one viewing of an episode (i.e. Early Edition!) before I
know whether or not the show is going to be something that I will
watch on a regular basis.

I think I agree with you Caro. I actually only watched the last 30 minutes, and it didn't do anything for me. I was curious when I did see our "Lundy" and really stuck with it for that reason.

Hi everyone!

I don't have much time, 'cause I have to go to school, but here goes--

First, I called FAM. They said that because there were only 20 shows,
ratings dropped and the viewers get bored when they repeat them over
and over. That's why they have to pre-empt them, but they will be
coming back. (Maybe not in March, though).
That was Donna (757) 459-6161.

Then I called Leslie Moonves' (Moon VESS) office. His secretary was
very nice and listened. She told me a good time to talk to him would be
at noon (PST) and since I'll be at school then, I talked to her and she
said at the end that she would definitely pass it along.

Wouldn't it be simply wonderful to flood his office with calls about
Christy? They'd know there was interest, then. (213) 852-2600.
(Do call!)

Then I called MTM and was asking them about who I could talk to that
would have participated in the discussion about the Easter 1997 special
that could tell me what happened with it. She said that the best thing
for me to do is fax her questions; including Ken Wales' name and the
general situation regarding the show and that she would get right on
it. That's fine, but could someone else do that, because 1. I don't
have a fax machine and 2. I have leave for school basically right now.

Her name is Elise Kerr, and her fax: (818) 755-2448. Her phone is
(818)755-2400, ask for Media Relations.

That's that, and I better go now.

It's not unknown for a series to start off kinda rough, and get
polished as the series goes on...

USA Today, 3/10/97, pg 3D. Headline: "New Game After Networks Reshuffle"
by Jefferson Graham.

Excerpt: "Kellie Martin's return to television in 'Crisis Center' might
be short-lived. In its first week, the show placed a weak third, and in
the 36 metered markets last Friday, 'Crisis' tied for second w/ CBS' 'Nash
Bridges.'"

I find this poetic justice in light of KM's scorn for her role as the
Christy heroine.
Stay tuned--USA Today publishes the Nielsen ratings tomorrow & I'll have a
better idea of CC's ranking for the second week.
