I hope they received a BIG sponsorship from Cadillac for the ridiculous
name of the new doc. When Phillip said, in the opening scene, that they
were waiting for "Dr. Catera," I said to my husband, "hey, she's the Caddy
that zigs!" But then to ACTUALLY take Cadillac's silly little tag line
(You can lease a Catera....who IS Lisa Catera?") and make it a permanent
part of the show seems a BIT overblown!
Anybody else groan and slap their foreheads when they noticed this?

Nope.
I like it.
Next, the character named: Bud Wiser.

Then it appears that they did get that sponsorship. A joke and a sponsor,
all in one name. Mystery solved.

Yep...it's one of those things that's a 'funny once' joke that's likely to
get old before the season's out. It was well placed when she introduced
herself by first and last name right before a commercial break that contained
a Cadillac 'Lease a Catera' spot.
I've written it off as just another scriptwriter's in-joke.

I thought it was funny. Don't take it too seriously.

Well, Mercedes was probably a woman's name l-o-n-g before the car
appeared. Remember Mercedes McCambridge?
N.
I remember in Dumas's THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, that the hero's
girlfriend was named Mercedes. In fact, the cars were named after
either Daimler or Benz's daughter (can't remember which). But at this
late date, the word only brings to mind cars...
