This is a loathsome idea, IMHO.
Being old enough to remember Charlie's
Angels, I find any association to that
show, however remote, to be a big
turn-off. What are they thinking of???
I can only hope that this is Cinescape's
take on the Angel show, rather than
JW's. I hope to god he isn't thinking
of emulating Charlie's Angels. Maybe
it's finally time to get rid of the TV
(well, after the end of BtVS season
3, anyway).

I'm not really for the spin-off in the first place,
but if it *has* to happen, I want it to work (but
not, I repeat, not as "Angel's Charmies". Sigh.

I thought this was a rumour, as I read about it on the ng
some time ago and a lot of people brushed it off as a joke.
However, when I read it in a more reputable
publication like Cinescape, I figure there must be some
basis to the whole idea other than a gawd-awful
concept that someone on the ng dreamed up. Am I
naive? Please say so, because I really, really do
*not* want to believe that this story is true. :-/

A Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff with Angel going to help lost souls in
L.A. Along for the ride are Cordelia, Whistler, and the witch Amy.
The series' format looks to be a supernatural update of Charlie's Angels,
with Slayer Faith, teenage witch Amy and the bitchy Cordelia acting as
Angel's Angels, so to speak. With the reformed vampire unable to act during
the day, his lovely assistants will be working on their own half the time,
aided by Whistler, a demon dedicated to maintaining the balance between

But Angel won't be the only undead member of the team. Just as Cordelia and
Angel move to LA following the breakdown of their normal relationship with
Xander and Buffy, the queen of the in-crowd falls victim to a supernatural
threat which leaves her dead -- but refusing to lie down. Though not a
vampire, the development opens up the possibility of a romance between
Cordelia and Angel. The departure of Cordelia, Amy and Faith will also
enable the parent show to concentrate on its core characters for a while,
although Joss Whedon confirms that Buffy The Vampire Slayer regulars Sarah
Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan and Nicholas Brendon will also make
occasional guest appearances on the spin-off.
"I can't help the girls during the day, 'cause I'm a vampire," David
Boreanaz explains to SFX, "so Whistler will be my eyes and ears."
Apparently, Max Perlich has been dropped in favor of Glenn Quinn in the
role of Whistler, which Variety describes as "an Irish demon/vampire."

Why do I get the feeling that this newsgroup is the source of
Cinemescape's "info"? Ah, I know. Everything they've mentioned has
been the subject of speculation, and in some cases, jokes, that we've
done.
As Wilkins would say, "Now, THAT'S a horrible thought". The
mainstream press is actually taking what WE say seriously?!!!
Hmm, let's get some outlandish rumors going here, keep repeating them
until any unsuspecting soul peeking in takes them as fact, and see
what ends up getting "reported". :)

Why? Despite its reputation as a t&a-fest, "Charlie's Angels" wasn't that
bad of a show. The acting was acceptable (except in the last couple of
seasons, when horrors like Tanya Roberts were put on the screen), the plots
were OK (no ongoing plotlines like BtVS, but those were very rare on action
shows until recently), the production values were good, and there really
wasn't that much t&a by todays standards (more hair and fashion).

Maybe the fact that "Charlie's Angels" was a successful show that ran for
several seaons (five or six, IIRC).
Of course, if they really copied that show, the Angel fans would be very
disappointed, because it would mean DB wouldn't actually appear onscreen. I
don't think they'll be doing that.

Obviously the day-timers are going to end up doing the bulk of the legwork.

There's been an increasing amount of net rumors, and jokes mistaken
for stories, turning up in the mainstream press. Matt Drudge, for
example, has built his career on reading gossip newsgroups, with all
their jokes and entertaining outlandish speculation, and printing it
as "investigative reporting".
The Today Show manged to get fooled by a net April Fools Joke a couple
of weeks back. I don't remember what the details were, but it was a
joke from some Austrailians, and the Today Show reported it the next
day as a news item.
Scary as it sounds, the mainstream press thinks Usenet is a legitimate
source of info. You'd think they'd at least credit their damn
sources, though.

Los Angeles -- Rumors are flying fast and furious in the wake of money
disputes between Fox Television and the WB Network over the hit
television series, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". In the midst of this
fray, series executive producer Joss Whedon today outlined casting and
strategy changes for next year's "Buffy" spinoff series.
"I'm very pleased that Elizabeth Anne Allen will be joining the new
series as a regular," Whedon began. "She's a marvelous performer,"
Whedon explained, "and the character of Amy the Witch is mega-popular
with the fans."
Whedon countered recent speculation that Allen would be unable to join
the new cast. "That rumor was only partly true," Whedon admitted.
"Once we were in negotiations, it was such a rat's nest, it took a
while to undo," he said.
The new show's previously announced cast include "Buffy" regulars David
Boreanaz (Angel), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Eliza Dushku (Faith),
and previous Buffy guest star, Max Perlich (Whistler). Whedon has also
confirmed that "Buffy" star Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) and regulars
Alyson Hannigan (Willow) and Nicholas Brendon (Xander) will make
occasional appearances in the spinoff series.
David Boreanaz was also on hand to offer a glimpse into the show's new
direction. "We're taking the show in a different direction, more LA,
more current, more Y2K," he said.
Whedon also announced the series, previously named "Angel", would be
titled "Angel's Charmies". "I met with executives at Warner and they
felt the new name and direction would peak the ratings faster", Whedon
explained. "They're really under bidding pressure from Fox," he said.
Series star Boreanaz explained the new direction, "I'll still be
fighting the bad guys, but with a new premise." Boreanaz elaborated,
"Cordelia was a Queen, Amy was a Witch, and Faith was a Slayer." He
added, "But I took them away from all all that up and now they work for
me. My name is Angel."
"Charisma, Eliza and Elizabeth are so charming, the name made total
sense," Whedon said. "They'll be going to college in the morning and
fighting demons in the afternoon," he added.
Describing co-star Max Perlich's role as Whistler, actor Boreanaz said,
"I can't help the girls during the day, 'cause I'm a vampire. So
Whistler will be my eyes and ears."
Series producer Whedon finshed, "I'm all tingly with the fantastic

vampire memorabelia, with Whistler as bartender. Cordy ends up stuck
in town and needs a job, so Angel hires her as a waitress. She's
constantly hitting him with sarcastic jabs, their verbal sparring
masking a growing attraction between them. Meanwhile, they'll have
their regular patrons, including Anya, who's constantly trying to
impress everyone with trivia.
