TV legend Ann B. Davis who played Alice on "The Brady Bunch" has died
... TMZ has learned.

According to the couple she lived with in Texas ... Ann fell in her
bathroom early this morning and hit her head causing grave damage.
We're told she never regained consciousness.

Her roommate says Davis had been pretty healthy for an 88-year old
woman -- and her death was a total shock. In fact, she even walked
downstairs to say goodnight before going to bed.

Davis played the housekeeper Alice Nelson for the entire original run of
"The Brady Bunch" from 1969 to 1974. She also filled the role for
countless other TV movies and reunions. She last played Alice for 5
episodes of "The Bradys" in 1990.

We're told Ann was very close to some members of the church she attended
in Texas -- and they are currently planning funeral arrangements.

Someone my mother knew apparently had a heart attack, and then fell down
the stairs. She lived a bit, though I think she was unconcious, and then
died. I seem to recall she died because she fell, which made the heart
attack fatal.

A "roommate"?

What's weird is that MeTV has had Greg doing these "remembering Alice"
bumpers, and more than once I've thought "did she die"? Ran one today, I
certainly did think about that. They seemed a bit premature, at least the
wording.

Perhaps she died a few days ago and word is just getting out via TMZ now?
MeTV may have known before TMZ released the news. The bumpers could have
been done ages ago.

I know that obituaries are sometimes written or filmed
years before the person actually dies in the case of someone relatively
famous. For instance, I think they had at least rough drafts of the
obituaries for Pope John Paul II ready years before he actually passed
away. Apparently, the major TV networks even had rooms with balconies
that had views of the Vatican booked years ahead of time so that, when
he died, they could get camera crews to spots with good vantage points
to show the highlights of the conclave to choose his successor. Of
course the Pope is a major international figure so his passing gets a
little more attention than an actress best known for her work in the 60s
but they might well have done SOME preparation for Ann Davis' inevitable
demise.

I seem to recall she was living in a cloistered community as well.

What a bad time for TVwoP to go dark!

Maybe that accounts for today's use of the bit, but I saw it months ago,
at lest. They do that sort of thing, little bumpers between shows and ads
focusing on someone who is in MeTV shows. There's one with Gavin McLeod,
showing off some of his guest roles, including Big Chicken on Hawaii-50
and then a bit from The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

But this one about Alice is "remembering", which suggests she died, unlike
the other ones.

> I know that obituaries are sometimes written or filmed

Yes. I seem to recall reading sometime in the past year that the guy who
did it for the New York Times had died.

And MeTV is pretty fast to do something to remember an actor that has
died, whether it was during Ironside with a little bumper noting the death
of Don Mitchell, who played "Mark", or shifting episodes around so when
The Professor on Gilligan's Island died, they had some Professor-centric
episodes.

And I expect on Sunday, MeTV will air some Alice-centric episodes.

But this thing on MeTV has already been aired.

Is that what it was about? One story had the minister saying "Alice" had
lived with him and his wife since 1976, which for some people would be the
perfect example of a "full couple". Or maybe what he meant was she was
their made.

The whole group seems to have moved around every few years.

All he may have to do is walk onstage as himself, or Greg Brady, and tell
stories about the show, when it's over he'll autograph the program for
you. I suppose it doesnt' have to be much, if you are famous enough.

I see that on Sunday, the four episodes of The Brady Bunch will be
Alice-centric, and then The Love Boat will have an episode with Ann B.
Davis.

Probably what it was like when he played the manager of S Club 7 on the third
season of their show (taking over for Linda Blair who played their landlady in
season two)....r

Isn't there a cartoon on the 'Boomerang' network (Sat-Sun) with that
same title, inspired by Greg's alter ego--just because he fit the suit?

The day on TVLAND with the BB goes from 4am-5pm CDT, with "The
Elopement" ('Alice' and 'Sam') the last one that day.
"Fright Night" (2:35pm CDT) is one of my fav BB eps with Alice
destroying Mike's bust with one swing of her vicious purse. LOL
"Sergeant Emma" is kinda lame-o. LOL
"Goodbye, Alice" (3:12pm CDT) is a good one, although it gets
schmaltzy (strongly contrasted to 'Schultzy') in the restaurant where she
takes a job as a waitress.
"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" (5:00am CDT)

Not any more...Boomerang redid their schedule at the beginning of the month and
just about everything I was watching on it is now gone....r

Yes, Ann was indeed close to the people that she lived with, and RP (a few weeks back, on May 5, she turned 88).Didn't know that she fell down..

She would not have fell if someone had kept the bathroom floor clean.
Where was the housekeeper when this happened?

Since she was living with a retired minister and his wife (since 1976 one
story said), she may have been the live in maid.

Another way of looking at it is if she could make it in the Brady
household, she could make it anywhere.

Besides, after having to pick up after all those six kids, the dog, and
Cousin Oliver (and the two parents), being a made for only two people
would be like a vacation.
