“Boy Meets World” star Ben Savage formally announced on Monday a 2024
campaign to replace Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is running for Senate.

“Together, we can do better,” Savage said in a post to Instagram. “I am a
proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who
comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community. I
firmly believe in standing up for what is right, ensuring equality and
expanding opportunities for all.”

“I’m running for Congress because it’s time to restore faith in government by
offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country’s
most pressing issues,” Savage continued.

“And it’s time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country
forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum
capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests.”

Savage filed paperwork to run as a Democrat in California’s 30th
Congressional District, which reaches from West Hollywood to Pasadena, in
January. He joins several other Democrats who have entered the race,
including California Assemblymember Laura Friedman, former Los Angeles City
Attorney Mike Feuer, and Maebe A. Girl, a drag queen seeking to become the
first transgender, “non-binary” member of Congress.

The candidates are jumping into the House contest as Schiff sets his focus on
the Senate. In particular, he is running to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein
(D-CA), who says she is not seeking re-election in 2024 after three decades
in the seat.

Savage, who is the younger brother of Fred Savage of “Wonder Years” fame,
became a child acting star himself in the ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World,” which
ran from 1993 to 2000. He also appeared in the Disney Channel sequel “Girl
Meets World,” which aired from 2014 to 2017.

Savage graduated from Stanford University with a degree in political science
and ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council last
year.
