I believe that should be "Mondale". The Walshes are originally from
Minnesota, as is former Senator, former Vice President, former loser to
Ronnie Ray-gun and current ambassador (and apologist) to Japan Walter
"Fritz" Mondale. Even a current twenty-something should be old enough to
remember his campaign against Ron in 1984. He may have lost big, but he
made history by having the first woman running mate, Geraldine Ferraro.
And he did better than Dukakis in '88!

Looks like it's time to post this. I'm starting to see some questions
popping up that are anwered in the FAQ, and it's the first week o da munth.
alt.tv.bh90210 Proposed FAQ v3.0
Posting date: 5 May 1994
In addition to the FAQ, I will also try to start posting a more
explicit list of changes since the last version in a separate file so
if you already have the previous version, you can catch up with just
the modified questions. This will start with the next version since
v3.0 is significantly different that v2.2 that you may as well grab the
whole thing.
This time, I completely renumbered all the questions because it
bugged because they were so horribly out of order and I kept losing track of
which number I left off on when adding new questions. Also, I restructured
the numbering scheme a little to make it (slightly) easier for me to insert
new questions in the numbering.

1. Is the mailing list still alive? If anyone has gotten ANYTHING

2. What is discussed in said mailing list? Are episode guides
sent out? I haven't seen one posted in a while, and I do not
maintain one.
3. Is this FAQ available at an ftp site? I know about 2 WWW
locations (see IN4), but I'm too lazy to deposit it anywhere,
and I wouldn't know where anyway.
4. How tall is the cast? I didn't pay much attention to the short
thread, and the only height I remember seeing is Jason P. at 5'10",
which I don't know if it's correct.

In trying to put this together, I pirated info left and right, but
tried to credit the appropriate sources when a significant amount was taken.
Oh yeah, just in case, I'll give advance warning: To me, nothing is
considered a "SPOILER." I believe in trying to give as complete an answer as
possible, even if there may be spoilers involved. Unless you're reading this
from a far off distant land like France :) you've probably seen all the
episodes I have anyway.
While I do try to give an accurate and complete answer, hopefully
you can figure out I DON'T TAKE THIS TOO SERIOUSLY and can figure out when
I'm joking. If not, flame away.

IN1: Where can I find an Episode Guide? Mailing list?
A: One is posted by nice people on the net periodically. I think an
episode guide is available by anon. ftp (see IN3), but is a little behind.
(I believe it only goes through third season, Graduation episode) This
episode guide is also available at the WWW site (see IN4) in Germany,
and maybe the one in rpi. Both sites archive Larry's "What I Saw" summaries
and some other summaries posted to alt.tv.bh90210 for the fourth season.
Tom Zoerner occasionally posts telnet instructions to use the site if
you don't have access to WWW.
To subscribe to the mailing list, send mail to majo...@tcp.com and
put the command "subscribe 90210" in the message. As a note, I poked around
a little via ftp at tcp.com and didn't see any mailing list stuff dated
after say, 1992. It is unclear to me whether or not the mailing list is
still alive.

A: Try ftp.tcp.com in the pub/90210/inages directory. I think they
also have a slightly outdated episode quide.
IN4: Where can I get a copy of the FAQ?(WWW)
A: Tom Zoerner has set up a World Wide Web location for the FAQ at
URL http://wwwcip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/tree/misc/bh.html
Note that this is a university in Germany, so please do not use this site
during Germany business hours. (i.e. avoid 9 AM-6PM CET, or 3AM-noon US
East Coast time, or midnight-9AM US West Coast time, etc...) I don't know
if anyone has it available via ftp. I will generally email a copy of the
current draft to anyone who asks me or to about half the people who post
and ask for one, depending on my mood at the time. Outside of that, I
plan to post it monthly, sometime during the first week of the month.

IN8: Is Jennie Garth's "Body in Progress" workout video any good?
A: Oh, the sacrifices I will make for this group. I actually got
the video and tried it out, forcing myself to watch Jennie Garth exercise in
black tights for half an hour. :) My feeling is that it's a mild low impact
aerobics workout. I didn't have much problem keeping up with it even when I
was sick. Toward the end, the abdomen work is difficult though.
Overall, it's probably somewhere between walking 3 miles and jogging
3 miles. Her fiance, Dan Clark does the soundtrack. Okay, so no one really
has asked this question. Just though folks may be interested.
IN9: How do I write to X?
A: They have their individual agents/managers which are often found
in teeny-bopper magazines. Or any of the cast can be written to

but I personally don't think this is the proper avenue for fan mail to the
cast. Comments, praise, and bitches about the show in general maybe. But
try to identify it as such in the subject line so it's easier for them to

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 90210 is filmed (as
opposed to taped) meaning that all of the actors are members of the Screen
Actor's Guild (SAG). I believe that SAG freely distributes the addresses
of the agents of any SAG member. Anyway, the phone number of the SAG agency
dept. is: 213 549 6737. As a note, I have never actually gotten an address
through this channel, so I don't know if it works, or how receptive they are
to callers. If I'm wrong and 90210 is taped, you might try the American
Federation of Television and Radio(AFTR) which according to the phone book
is: 213 461 8111. (At least, it was a year or 2 ago.)

A: Okay, quite honestly, I didn't start watching the show regularly
until their Sr. year, though I have rented the pilot episode. Anyway, if
I don't have the story straight, please email me (svh...@cco.caltech.edu)
and correct me. But as I understand it:
David began in the pilot as a froshling. The rest of the gang were
juniors. At the end of the year, the producers/writers/powers-that-be
decided that it was too early to have them become seniors, when so much of
the show was high school life. So when they returned from the summer, the
gang returned for their second junior year. But no one mentioned repeating a
year. Personally, I think anyone stupid enough not to NOTICE they are
repeating a year of high school deserves to repeat it...
In the meantime, when he returned from the summer, David was the only
one smart enough to advance, and became a sophomore.
The next season(3rd season- Senior Year), David realized that if he
studied really hard, he could combine his Junior and Senior years, and grad-
uate with his love, Donna. He studied really hard. He graduated.
PT2: Where is California University? Isn't that the same place as Saved By
The Bell: The College Years? Hey... maybe they'll do a crossover!
A: C.U. is a ficticious University in Southern California, not to be
confused with Saved By The Bell's C.U. which apparently is in Northern
California. They are made by different production companies. An official
crossover is unlikely, though some of the 90210 actors have appeared on the
other show. Besides, SBTB:TCY is now dead. (Kelly accepted Zach's marriage
proposal for anyone who cares.)
In 90210, outdoor campus scenes, and apparently some dorm scenes are
filmed at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, CA.
PT3: Who is the hottest female on the show?
A(short): Jennie Garth.
A(long): From recent discussions, it seems that Jennie Garth
generally beats Shannen by about a 2:1 ratio, judging by the number of
people who post directly. Someone recently took a poll and I request that
he repost the results. In the earlier days of the show, Brenda won a
poll over Kelly by about 9 to 6.
My observation is that it seems there are 2 prime candidates: Jennie
and Shannen. Accompanying this, there is often a discussion of how pale
both of them are. Some people don't like Jennie's lips (why, I'll never know),
and it is widely observed that one of Shannen's eyes is like a quarter inch
higher than the other. Occasionally this degenerates further into a discussion
of whether her breasts are real or not(see SD4 for my answer).
Usually Tori gets a couple votes, which spawns discussions over what
animal she most resembles, her nose job, and the possibility of her having had
a rib removed to look thinner.
Gabrielle seems to have a small following as well, around the same
number as Tori, I think. But the poll taker would know better than I.
Carol (Mrs. Walsh) seems to get a vote on occasion, varying from poll
to poll, as do supporting/temporary characters like Emily.
PT4: Is Gabrielle Carteris pregnant in real life?
A: Yes. I believe she is expecting to deliver a little after finishing
shooting this season. (Sometime in May '94) Rumors are that Andrea may
deliver sometime this season, if that makes any sense.
Lessee.. start school, get pregnant, deliver, end first year.
(End first yr) - (start school) = about 9 months.
(deliver)-(get pregnant) <9 months... Wonder if she and Brandon actually
did the deed on prom night... :)
PT5: Who is the father?
A: Presumably, her husband Charlie.
As for Andrea's baby, it looks like the winnah is...Jesse. Unless
Dan's protection wasn't functioning.
PT6: What drug did David get hooked on?
A: Crystal Methamphetamine, sometimes referred to as "speed." This group has
seen many passionate posts stating that this drug is NOT crack or cocaine, so
I should probably mention that. I thought I heard it referred to as "crank"
(not "crack"), but correct me if I'm wrong.
PT7: Are there any countries outside of the United States?
A: Only France.
Actually, Dylan likes to surf in Baja in Mexico. Stuart mentioned
being somewhere in South America. But if someone is sent to a foreign
country, it tends to be France. (Brenda&Donna, Emily, the Dean's
daughter who was hot for Brandon, ... Didn't Kelly&Dylan go there the Summer
after senior year?)
PT8: Whatever happenned to Stuart?
A: He vanised without trace for a couple months to do some business
in South America after he and Brenda decided not to get married. He
returned 2/9/94 to sweep Brenda off her feet, and everyone then said he was
only gone for a month. Brenda accidentally locked his keys in his Range
Rover. He yelled at her. His dad yelled at him. Bren threw her engagement
ring in a pool. We'll probably never see Stuart again.
PT8: Emily?
A: Brandon went up to visit her in San Francisco for about a week when he
felt too much pressure from school around Thanksgiving 1993. Now, she's in
France at the Cousteau Institute.
PT8: Rick? (pronounced "Reek")
A: Took on another name, moved to Metropolis, wears blue tights, and flies
on another network now. At first glance, once would think Brenda's rejection
drove him insane. But the blue tights gimmick has attracted the attentions
of an incredibly hot babe named Lois. Brenda is a distant memory, and he never
mentions her anymore.
PT8: Lucinda/Lucifer?
A: Failing to get Dylan to fund her research, she now sells maxipads
during commercial breaks.
PT8: Celeste, Dan, John Sears, the homeless guy, Sue Scanlon?
A: They are not part of the main cast, the actors who portray them are not
dating anyone in the main cast(Yes, this is a cheap shot at one of the previous
characters), and they were no longer needed in the new storylines, so they
vanished off the face of the Earth. Probably in France now. :)
PT9: What does the gang study?
A: I'm going to need some help here, as I only half-heartedly followed
the thread. I do want to mention though: THEY'RE FROSH, DAMNIT. Their
majors are not written in stone, and might not even be decided.

I didn't see the Flower Power episode yet, but apparently, Wendy
wrote something in her diary about July 18 being a significant day, and
Brenda imagined it was the moon landing. I think on a "Later with Bob
Costas," Marilu Henner said that July 20, 1969 was also the date she lost
her virginity. (But MH has nothing to do with bh90210, so you're probably
not interested.. Oh well.) July 18 is also my a friend's wedding
anniversary, but I'm guessing that's not what they were referring to.
PT12: What will the BH90210 reunion be about? (TV Guide joke)
A: In the edition of TV Guide starting 2 April 1994, with
Loni Anderson on the cover, Aaron Spelling was asked
where the cast of 90210 might be in 25 years. His response:
"Stop, don't do this to me," he says, feigning disapproval at first,
then slowly becoming intrigued by the idea. "Hmmmm, I guess it
would be fun to see what becomes of them all. Let's see --
Jason will have married Luke..." He pauses. "And my daughter Tori
will still be a virgin."

SD1: Was Shannen Doherty fired?
A: media: She was fired.
SD: Either "I quit" or "mutual decision" depending on interview.
In either case, she's leaving the show.
UPDATE: in a recent (late April, early May 1994) article in
Entertainment Weekly, it strongly indicated that there may have indeed
been a reconciliation, and that Spelling is willing to take her back.
Way early on in the game, I heard Doherty would be willing to return,
but I think the EW article indicated that S.D.'s publicist wouldn't
verify Brenda's return.
SD2: Why is Shannen Doherty leaving?
A: Speculation has been tension with other cast members, showing up
late to rehearsals, being difficult to work with, being a bad influence on
sweet innocent Tori, being a general b*tch...
As a note, A.Spelling has said that in 1994, she's been like an angel
on the set. No tantrums, shows up on time... There are rumors of a reconcil-
iation, and I think I heard somewhere Shannen's agent said she'd be willing to
come back. But I personally have heard about equal numbers of rumors whether
she stays or not.
SD3: Where can I see Brenda/Shannen Doherty naked?
A: 1. Playboy Magazine Dec. 1993 (doesn't really show anything)
2. Playboy Magazine March 1994 (in some "Safe Sex" spread)
3. "Blindfold"-A "Basic Instinct" genre movie w/Judd Nelson (not yet

A: In an interview in Vanity Fair in 1993 (the one with Sly Stallone
naked on the cover), her ex-fiance Chris Foufas describes having accompanied
her to her breast enlargement surgery. He says she was nervous about it and
he tried to talk her out of it with something to the effect of "You have nice
boobs. You don't need to..." How touching. I think she generally denies
having had any cosmetic surgery.

A: Unknown. Speculation I've seen has been: Drunk driving accident in
a style almost identical to the way Nia Peeples left "Fame"(Sorry. Obscure
reference), move back to MN, die in earthquake, get replaced by Drew Barrymore
or Alyssa Milano... Perhaps she will be kidnapped by alien beings.
A note though about possible replacements. Drew Barrymore has said
in interviews she's not interested in doing 90210. Aaron Spelling also denies
having approached her to make an offer. However, with regards to Alyssa
Milano, he has "no comment." (I can't cite specific sources though)

A.B: The responses I've basically seen to this question are that X
is heterosexual because they have an opposite sex S.O. and/or X has never
publically announced their homosexuality. This always provokes the response
that X could still be a closet homosexual, kept in by studio pressure. And
examples are sometimes cited. Certainly, it's a possibility and there's
no way to know for sure. So everyone will believe what they want to believe.
But for what it's worth, to my knowledge, none of the cast has
publically announced that (s)he is homosexual or bisexual.

A: Well, in some cases, there seems to be some source of debate. So
I'll attempt to list speculations as well where it looked close. In a couple
cases, the characters were in bed together, but looked clothed, and nothing
was explicitly mentioned about their having sex. In many cases, I didn't see
the episode myself, and have taken this from discussion on this group. I
have indicated these with a '?'. If someone can give me an episode date,
title, production code, or REALLY complete description of what else happenned

do not judge BH90210 solely on the episode with the stupid Christmas talking

FW3: Someone just posted one of the above balsphamous insults about BH90210 to
the newsgroup. Should I waste bandwidth defending the honor of this show
to the insolant non-believer by posting?
A: No. You don't need to get all worked up and post 100 defensive res-
ponses that they probably won't see. Chances are that either they were only on
the group that one time for the express purpose of inciting riot, or they are
looking for attention. THE best response is to simply ignore them.
Please be aware that there exists a group alt.syntax.tactical that
exists solely for the purpose of inciting prolonged flamewars on newsgroups.
They seem to attack in a very strategic manner in several waves. They
regard the following as victory:

A: Calmly email them an inform them matter-of-factly that their questions

A: Don't even think about it. To my knowledge, chain letters like
this are illegal. It's called a Ponzi or pyramid scheme. People will
write to both you and your postmaster requesting that your account be
removed for this abuse of the net. There's a good chance your sysadmin
will agree and terminate you. Er... your account. I suggest that you
take an hour or two and read the group news.announce.newusers and perhaps

A: No. Immigration is not an issue in the bh90210 storylines, and
is irrelevant to this newsgroup. This group is not the proper forum for
advertisements, and in general, the practice of massive crossposting
(spamming) is against the guidelines for use of USENET that are available
in news.announce.newusers. Incidentally, posting advertisements in
discussion groups is also against the guidelines. The proper forum for
such posts is in the biz. heirarchy, probably in biz.misc.
FW7: Supposing someone DOES spam an ad for ColeSLAW for green immigrants.
How can I respond?

I think that potential clients should be made aware of the
manufacturer's past record, whether it be with the better business
bureau, FL State Bar Association, or whatever is appropriate for
his/her business. At current time, I don't know if this is postable.
I do NOT recommend sending bogus requests for more information.
This just would let them increase their count of "positive responses."
I do NOT recommend email bombing their accounts. They might
just hire someone to filter their email, so they won't even see it, and
if they use a provider like netcom or delphi, you will just slow the
machine or crash it, which is unfair to others on the system.
I do NOT recommend FAX bombing or ping bombing. I think that's
just kinda immature.
I do NOT recommend making threats against the poster or his/her
personal property. Might even be illegal. If you're a Highlander fan,
try to think of it as "holy ground" or sanctuary, the 1 place where
you would let the most vile and evil person walk free without beheading
