| Hello all!
|
| As an editor at Soap Opera Digest as well as a passionate,
| long-time ANOTHER WORLD fan, I wanted to address some
| of the questions fans have raised about the recent AW
| tribute at the Digest award show and the boycott detailed in
| the recent CSAW press release.
|
| Honoring AW was -- and continues to be -- of utmost
| importance to Soap Opera Digest. When a conflict of
| interest arose with NBC (the network that canceled AW and
| aired the Digest awards), SOD stood behind the AW tribute
| and refused to back down. Those involved with AW were
| invited to the awards so that they could be present when
| the tribute aired. In lieu of presenting the Editor’s Award,
| SOD used the time during the ceremony to air the two
| tributes. SOD was committed to honoring AW and, on a
| personal note, seeing the tribute made me miss the show
| even more.
|
| None of this is said to dampen fan activism, but rather
| explain more of the background from which the magazine
| was coming. The fanbase of AW, of which I consider myself
| a part, is a tremendous, tenacious, loyal and savvy group. I
| personally do not want AW to fade from our memories or the
| vernacular. One way to accomplish this is by working with
| SOD to continue coverage of AW. SOD is the only magazine
| that regularly and consistently includes AW in its
| features. For example, both real-life AW couples (issued dated
| 2/15//2000) and the friendship of Cass and Felicia (3/21/2000)
| were recently covered by SOD. Upcoming features are full of AW
| content. In my mind, it’s a fitting tribute to this phenomenal show
| for it to have continuing coverage in a major publication.
|
| So, write to SOD (SODS...@aol.com) and let us know what
| interests you about AW. Yearning to see what Paul Michael Valley
| (ex-Ryan) is doing these days? Want to make sure the SOD
| Calender includes the date of Steve and Alice’s wedding? (5/3/74)
| Give us feedback on the AW coverage we have had. AW content is
| another way to honor the show-- and not to mention see great
| pictures of our favorites.
|
| SOD felt it was pressing to let the fans know that keeping the
| memory of AW alive and well is very important to us, and by
| working together, we can do just that.
|
| Thanks for your time.
|
| E-mail SOD at SODS...@aol.com or me at SO...@aol.com
| Thank-You,Donna! I read this on another AW board, but glad this
| newsgroup has it too!
| Did you enjoy the tribute?
Yes, I enjoyed it, very much & applaud Scott R. Collishaw &
the ex-AW staffers at ATWT who worked on it. Serious
standing O for their loving handling & attention & detail &
knowledge of the show, etc.!! Plus, just the sheer finding
of some of those clips, wow.
That said I wish that they had shown more of the cast in the
audience after, but, Dick Clark Productions was producing it
for & by NBC, in that way, so that wasn't going to happen,
darnit.
| Or were there people you wanted to be
| on the tribute that wasn't?
Oh, sure, and I would've eliminated some of the duplication
to make room for them & made it a little longer.
| I liked the tribute! I wish it ws longer but good for the length
| it was!
Agreed. <g>

"AOL for Dummies" is kind of redundant, don't you think?
