Is this true? Can 4Kids really take over the CW lineup even though it already
has the lineup on Fox?
- Juan F. Lara
I"m curious as to what this means for The Batman, Legion of
Superheroes, and other Kids WB shows . . .

Um...were those not running on CN in the first place? 0_o?
(No, really, I'm asking, since I've never really watched much Sat.AM
blocks either since Fox cancelled "X-Men".)

The Batman is in it's fifth year which, based upon the previous Batman
series, would be it's last. Legion of Super Heroes will probably stick
around another year or two unless they decide to develop another Justice
League based upon the characters from this year's The Batman. And I'm sure
we'll be getting more than we can stand of Scooby Doo.

No, those are new series. Only Justice League and Teen Titans aired
original episodes on CN, iirc.

I can't imagine what 4Kids has down the pipe (or in its existing
library) taht would justify holding TWO lineups. Maybe they should
dedicate one network for girly stuff (Magical Doremi and Tokyo Mew
Mew) and the other for boyish stuff (Yugi-oh, Shaman King, etc.)
Of course, some affiliate will choose to air those lineups on Sunday
morning anyway. I can confirm the Baltimore CW affiliate has aired
its KWB lineup two hours early since last year. I believe Cleveland's
KWB affiliate airs their stuff on Sunday. That nonsense can't help
the ratings.

The Batman reruns aired on Cartoon Network, as well. My CN timeshifts
confirm as much; I got a rerun of Greg Weisman's Mr. Freeze episode on
a DVD+RW somewhere. I really should be clearing up space for Skunk Fu
or something that stinks less :-)
Terrence Briggs, pulling out some Dinozords timeshifts. Any excuse to
hate Dinosaur King less...
Peace to you...
They seem to have tried this last year with FOX where they run the girls
stuff earlier and the boys stuff later. CBS has been trying to gain it's
audience by appealing to girls. It's not such a bad idea, but which station
is going to get the more watched boys stuff?
You should know that your boy, Larry Jacobs (Magic School Bus and
Cyberchase) is directing some episodes of Johnny Test, currently
airing on Kids WB.
And, of course, Veggietales is on NBC and iOn's Qubo lineup.
(Speaking of "green-broccoli" edutainment...)

Terrence Briggs, found Saved by the Bell on his early-morning Sat AM
timeshifts. Remind me never to do that again.
Peace to you...
I believe the early-morning girl stuff actually got BETTER ratings
than the prime-time boys stuff. It wasn't a significant difference
(1.1 for most of the shoujo vs. 1.0 for most of the shonen), but it
was interesting to note.

I believe ABC's had the #1 broadcast lineup for two years, thanks
largely to its girl-friendly (live-action) lineup. Kids WB has faded,
it should be mentioned, while ABC's ratings have been consistent since
2003.

See above :-)
I tend to believe 4Kids will offer each block as a separate syndie
package. The affiliates will probably choose which lineup they want.
4Kids could always syndicate individual shows, but a package or block
might bring in more money.
Looking at the current library of 4Kids shows, the following have been
E/I compliant in the past:
Stargate: Infinity (!)
Magical Doremi
Back to the Future (or is this a Fox show, not a 4Kids show?)
I forget if [Tokyo] Mew Mew Power was E/I. It had a Captain Planet-
esque conservation vibe going for it once in a while :-)
I doubt any of 4Kids' highest-rated shows (Pokemon, Yugi-oh, Sonic X)
have ever been E/I.
I doubt Dinosaur King ever will be :P
Terrence Briggs, sorry James Vipond ;-)
Peace to you...
Back to the Future originally aired on CBS.
E/I is only generating stupid kids. About the best E/I animated show for
entertaining while providing educational content was Cro and that's because
it was created by CTW.

When it comes to E/I shows on commercial TV, I was always partial to
"The Lionhearts" myself.
Thanks for correcting me. I usually correct others on things like
that :-)

That's... debateable.

I was a huge fan of Cro's first season (written by Mark Zaslove and
company, well-acted all around), but I doubt the CTW had much to do
with said coolness. In fact, when Zaslove left, the show went to
pot. Scripts and dialogue got lamer, etc.

Terrence Briggs, got Gummi Berars on Netflix. Nice to see a mid-1980s
TMS series that DIDN'T suck :-)
Peace to you...
Betcha didn't know that Phantom 2040 was E/I!
...as were these personal faves:
Pepper Ann
Stargate: Infinity
WITCH (!)
Beakman's World wasn't animated, yet rocks them all. In season 1,
anyway :-)
Terrence Briggs, watching Care Bears timeshifts. TB-certified "Not As
Bad As It Sounds" (TM)
Peace to you...
