Hi everyone. I want to ask your opinion on something. I haven't seen most of
the new eps of 1997, and I wanted to know if any of you had any suggestions as
to which ep I should submit for the Emmy commitee. Is there any episode you
feel was particularly strong, performance-wise, for The Brain? Needless to say,
Brainy the Poo and Melancholy Brain, and Broadway Malady, my 3 favorites, are
ineligible because they aired in 1998. All suggestions welcome, as I have to
make a decision tomorrow...

P.S. - I have to submit a full half hour episode. My first inclination is to
send "You Said a Mouseful", but wasn't its companion piece "Operation Sealion"
kinda weak? I don't know, as I haven't seen it, but that's my recollection.

I'd go with either the episode containing "Two Mice and a Baby" or "Brain
Acres" if they were broadcast in 1997.

Moe:

If we eliminate (*very* reluctantly) "You Said A Mouseful", only because of
"Operation Sea Lion", and certain of the 1998-broadcast or < 1/2 hour episodes
(most notably "Brainie the Pooh" and "Your Friend Global Domination"), I think
the choices resolve themselves to:

(Caveat: I don't have my notes handy to check if these are 1998 eps. Be
forewarned.)

"Brain's Way" In terms of vocal characterization, the Frankie styling is an
interesting choice. It shows, I think, more flexibility in the character of
Brain and his vocal style. As far as story is concerned, a good spoof of both
"Bugsy" and Rat Pack (pardon the term) stylings.

"Brain Noir" One of the best stories, also with good vocal performances all
around and a funny story.

"Brain Acres" Another possibility, though it was Frank Welker's
characterization here that was key.

My favorite P&B episode of all time, featuring great performances
all around, is "Brinky" which aired 22 Feb 97 according to the aypwip.
"I have no clone!"
"Do you want to tell him, or should I?"

But I guess I have to agree that the one where you do Frank Sinatra
is awfully strong, too.

Definitly Brinky.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Looks like Brain Acres or Brain's Way and
Brinky are the choices. Charlie Howell thinks that, as singing isn't my strong
suit, (and remembering this a Performance Emmy, not a writing one, so the
script doesn't have a bearing on the judges' choice, except as to how well I
execute, say, a given joke) I should eliminate Brainatra. Is Brain acres really
that strong for me? Or is it more of a Paulsen & Welker showcase? No offense to
those guys, I love 'em, but I'm taking care of me right now (how's that for
honesty?) and I want to submit an episode that's strong for Brain. Never saw
Brinky. Is Brain both funny and touching in it?

>Is Brain acres really>that strong for me? Or is it more of a Paulsen & Welker showcase?

"Brain Acres" is a Paulsen & Welker showcase and a definite "don't pick".

"Brain's Way" is a natural pick because the only one in the list where you
are showcased. If you really don't feel good about your singing ability,
you still have good choices like "Brain Storm", "Brain Noir", and "Brain of
the Future".

BTW, for everyone's benefit, here's the list of half-hours airing in '97
that he can choose from:

Brain of the Future
Brinky
Hoop Schemes
This Old Mouse
My Feldmans, My Friends
Brain Noir
Brain Acres
The Pinky Protocol
Brain Storm
The Real Life
Brain's Way
Brainy Jack
A Pinky & The Brain Halloween.

"Brain's Way" and "Brain Noir" were pretty nifty (Maybe the Brain's Way
singing could've been better)- I dunno about "Brain of the Future"- it's not
exactly a dazzling Brain eps (but I still love the "I'm pondering as fast as I
can!" line). My vote is for Brinky, though. Even though it's not a spot-light
on Brain, I like the father-clone relationship going on, there, with the Brain
and Pinky acting like a old married couple. I think it was touching and funny.

I think I really liked Brain's Way and this Old Mouse. They were both really
good. I even used a clip from This Old Mouse in a video project once cause
Brain was skiing. I'd have to say the best one I think is You Said A Mouseful.
Too bad you can't use that.

Also I was wondering, if you can't use shorts, then what did Animaniacs submit?

Later-Erika

P.S. If anyone got confused, Brinky was when Brain and Pinky had their genies
combined and had Roman (Roman numeral I). I think for the title they combined
the names. I forgot what it was till I saw it another day. Eventually
everything comes back to you when you see it.

Actually, your probably right. I was thinking of his overall performance in
the episode (the Ed Sullivan cockroach, Canadian leader). Unfortunately,
overall performance doesn't count.

BTW, a few months ago I discovered using DejaNews a thread in an
african-american group that claimed the cockroaches in "Brain of the
Future" were racially offensive, especially the Mick Jagger roach. I don't
get it.

Anyone ever notice that Georgie, the parody of Barney on "Dinosaurs", looks
a lot like Baloney, including the orange and green spots?

I would suggest Brinky over Brain's Way as well.. Brinky gives you a lot
of emotional expression, plus you get the voice of the younger
Romy (assumign the rumors we've heard are right) in addition. While
you are also featured prdominately in Brain's Way, as you've noted,
that's a better episode for musical talents - and while I think that's one
of your
better singing outings (too bad we can't use "Meticolous Analysis of
History"), the overall performance that you give is not as good as in
Brinky.

Personally, I'd choose Brain's Way, with Brain Noir as a close second. Then
again, I think you should cut an album: "Brain Sings Sinatra!" (It'd have
to sound better than "Pinky Sings Nancy Sinatra!", after all...)

@@@@hhhhh... I guess "Brinky" is all right. Hated it the first time I saw
it, but it did grow on me over a few viewings. The talk-show bit someone else
mentioned is a scream. (How come Brain never tried to take over the world
using a talk show? Beneath his dignity? Hah! This was the guy who was gonna'
drive us all insane with Rush Limbaugh's rendition of "Dream Weaver!!!... But,
I digress...)
I'd still have to go with "This Old Mouse." Better story all around, so I
enjoyed the voice performance more. And I never fail to laugh when Brain talks
about how different life was before "Fresh Air, Sunshine, and tiny, electric
socks!!!" Or, "I'm middle-aged! And all I have to show for it is a sagging
waistline and a roommate who thinks dryer lint is a delicacy!"

And I'd still put "Brain's Way" in second by a hair. Hey, I *like* Brain's
singing! I've listened to enough folkies and blues artists over the years to
know that emotion, (and by that I mean sounding involved in what you're doing,
not wailing like Streisand or whoever) is more important than range, power, or
polish sometimes.
Otherwise, I'd have to accept that Mariah Carey is a better singer than,
say, Rickie Lee Jones. And I'd slam both hands in a revolving door before I'd
do that. So there.

Good Luck, Moe.

Personally, I think 'Brinky' would do well, since not only do you
portray the Brain as he copes with fatherhood, but also, I think the
rendition of Roman is rather nice. I forget which of you did young
and old Roman, but I do remember not even noticing a difference at
first.

Uh, I dunno. Actually, even if I had time, I probably couldn't
write any more. Wherever anything I write falls down is when
it's time to move the plot. I can't write plot. I can write
dialogue true to characters, and amusing gags, but plot? What
