(And all credit to MJ's Big Blog for this...)
http://mjsbigblog.com/will-scotty-mccreery-and-lauren-alaina-be-welcomed-at-country-radio.htm
Couple of choice quotes:
WFRE (Maryland) Program Director Jess Wright: “If Scotty McCreery
gets signed, I’m gonna need to change my phone number.”
He continues: “Carrie Underwood actually had talent from the
beginning. Scotty really doesn’t. For him, being on ‘American Idol’ is
only a blessing because it’s the only thing the label will be able to
point to as a reason to play his music.”
(My comment: That's been the case ever since the end of Season One --
the performer is not #1, American Idol is! This is exactly the kind
of situation Simon Fuller and the Idol TPTB are trying to build.)
KIIM Program Director Buzz Jackson: “Scotty hasn’t demonstrated that
he can be anything but creepy.”
(My comment: IMHO, I think this type of attitude seals it. The ONLY
way Scotty McCreary wins the season is a Taylor Hicks situation where
the season is discarded as a total loss going out -- and, between this
and the start of US X-Factor, probably seals the show's fate. He's
NOT going to succeed as a country star, and he's NOT going to succeed
(the latter IMHO) as a marketing situation.)
On Lauren:
KUZZ (Bakersfield, CA) Music Director Toni-Marie (the article did not
give a first name, I don't think):
“I think Lauren could take it, but she is still very young and I don’t
know that she can handle it yet. Maybe with the right people behind
her and parents who hopefully brought her up well, she can do it.”
(My comment: My read on what Idol would do with Lauren as champion
would be that they'd throw her face (and body) all over the magazines
and advertisements, not really unlike what they did with Underwood.
They'd bring her along slowly as a performer (knowing that X-Factor
will be out by the time any album hits the table, regardless of
winner.)
(In fact, Toni-Marie and Wright will REFUSE to hear Scotty McCreary
out if a label rep brings him to their stations.)
KJJY Music Director Eddie Hatfield, with a comparison of the two:
“Lauren has a shot if she’s handled correctly. People seem to like
her. There will be a curiosity factor on Scotty’s first single. If it
isn’t great, that will be it for him."
(My comment: I don't get that vibe about Lauren. I think the people
like _Scotty_, but I get the feeling that no one else does.)
(In summary: This definitely puts Haley even more in play than she's
been before. It's clear that Scotty is not going to be well received
in country radio, and a lot of money would have to be thrown at the
stations for them to even hear him out. Lauren is just seen as too
young -- but I think that can be worked with.)
Mike
You left this out:
"One widely respected programmer, KEEY (K102) Minneapolis’ Gregg
Swedberg, had a completely different view, “Maybe I’m nuts, but I love
both of them,” he says. “Scotty is more than just a Josh Turner
clone . . . Lauren still needs to get some experience, but the girl
can sing. It all comes down to the songs. If they’re smart (and they
are), they’ll get the best songs they can, because a 25 million person
launch pad is nothing to sneeze at.”"

I think it's clear that Scotty will NOT have the support of much of
country radio should he win.
That was the point.
Mike
Your subject line is misleading. One asshole country music station
owner is not "Country Radio."

Youi are completely, utterly wrong on this, and are basing your "fact"
on your own personal tastes.

Totally agree.....Mike has completely crossed over the the "dark side"
with this...probably riding Wildfire and listening to the theme from the
"Twilight Zone"!!
Judy
P.S. BTW thanks, Callen for supplying the missing link from the article!
:o)

Agreed, which is a reason that I do not believe Scotty will be named
the winner unless the season is discarded and conceded to the vote.
Mike (Which see: Hicks, Taylor.)
I've said for a couple weeks, at least: The vote is Scotty's. Legit
speaking, the season is over.
This indicates to me that, at best, this is a Taylor Hicks situation.

I would too. At that point, I think they have to put Haley in the
Grand Final with him. The problem is that I just don't see him all
over ads and magazines, like I would Lauren or Haley.
He is the best musician left, but is he an "American Idol" in the
sense of the term "Idol"?

Because being called a clone is so positive. :)

Why because Randy said it??? If watching Idol for ten years has taught us
anything .....is that the public could give less than two shits about what
Randy utters....

Elton Dumont - Gentleman Pervert
My only regret in life is that I had not yet hit puberty during the Summer
of Love.
Note that I didn't say that meant that much in the final analysis.

Wasn't he all but trying to get James the title a couple weeks ago?
That said: After last week, it is very probable that Rupert Murdoch
could also have made the call as to who wins as well. If he was, as I
suspect, ramming himself against some of the top Idol brass Wednesday
night and Thursday morning, he almost certainly got whatever vote
numbers they had.
Mike
OMG....funny as hell...
Bob is back to normal....unfunny...uninspired.... You've had one great post
in 10 years.....can't you just wait another ten years....really put some
thought into it and come up with something that is funny?
I can hear that lone cricket 1000 yards away......
> As a wind machine model, Haley is a great pole dancer.
Which is the only reason Haley Reinhart made the Final Three, Bob.
Mike (And then she still needed Rupert Murdoch and James Durbin's
past.)
