What happened to the Country-like-alto-register-voice Marie Osmond
that I remember as a teenager? Here's a video of Marie from the
Oprah show a few days ago singing a very emotional "Pie Jesu,"
dedicated to her teenage son Michael who committed suicide not long
ago. My sister(a lifelong MO fan) and I watched the whole show,
which was dedicated to Oprah's interview of Marie about the loss of
her son, his suicide, and the current rash of teen suicides. It was
heart wrenching, and it was the first and only interview Marie has
granted on the subject.

This song, sung in honor of Michael, was the highlight of the show.
What a class act she's turned into!

When she was in "The Sound of Music", one of her fellow castmembers
offered to give her voice lessons. She was at the Oprah taping too.

Donny once said he went to see Marie in "The King and I" and was
absolutely convinced she was pulling a Milli Vanilli when she started
singing.

I saw that show. It was heart wrenching. It also left me curious
about her ex-husband. She said that the children didn't want him at
the funeral and refused to go if he attended. So he must be a really
aweful person. But he did attend a record release party for David
Osmond, son of Alan, where most of Marie's family was in attendance.
This was shortly after Michael's suicide, possibly before the
funeral. The Osmond family seemed friendly toward him, but they could
have just been polite since there was a camera crew there. I respect
Marie's decision not to air her family's dirty laundry. It would have
just brought them more pain. But it may have just made the tabloids
more curious. Hopefully for once they will show her some respect and
not add to her pain. No parent should have to go through what she is
going through. I hope she got through to other children who are
dealing with depression

I heard the same thing Badger did about her voice. I remember Donny
saying that the voice lessons expanded her vocal range. The song
along with her new album is available on iTunes.

That was very moving. I don't know that I could have done that...especially
dedicated to your own son. I do wish I could turn off my critical
musician's ear on one or two things, but those things don't matter,
considering the circumstances. Thank you for posting this, zob.
