This is how a get-together goes at my house: People come over with food and
drink, the kids ride their bikes or come in and play Playmobil, and after a
while, someone puts on a CD or video, and we listen to music together til
people feel like going home.

I'll start:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=H-D6HOFLglE&search=%22john%20legend%22%20grammys

John Legend at the Grammys, performing "Ordinary People". This is a song I
could hear Elliott perform...and JL's piano groove and subtle power is
awesome!!!

That would be the music to play to get people to go home, if they don't fall
asleep first. <smirk> Actually that is very pretty but it's too mellow
for a party.

When we have people over, the kids will swim or play on the hammock or tree
swings, if they aren't playing with the horses. During and after cooking
out, we sit out on the patio and typically a few will start playing the
guitars and we sing anything from CSN to James Taylor to Irish comedy songs
to something more modern. It's just one big sing fest. LOL

Yeah, maybe it's too early for solo piano. How 'bout some Robert Randolph
and the Family Band?

I am the only musician in my immediate family. :( I'd have loved to have
grown up in that kind of a family. I guess my kids do now... :)

Yikes, you guys would hate my parties. Last Christmas I had a 70s
X-mas party which involved make your own Easy Bake Oven Hors-dourves
(sp?) in the backyard, with three ovens going. I also made all sorts
of 70s food like Manwiches and pigs in a blanket, etc... baked a cake
that was a tribute to Studio 54, we played my special version of the
Game Show Treasure Hunt, where people had to answer trivia questions
about the 70s and could win things like colorforms or shrinky dinks or
pet rocks, all authentic 70s gifts, and we finished the evening off
with a screening of The Carpenters' 1978 Christmas Special with guest
stars Gene Kelly, Kristy & Jimmy McNichol and Georgia Engel.

If this is for real, I'd say that sounds like a very good time! The 70s
were the best decade of my life....I think I look back on it a bit *too*
fondly.

I don't remember the Suzy Homemaker oven. We actually have two Easy Bake
Ovens, the one from when I was little and the one from when my daughter was
little. I was just sitting here thinking about what all I have left from
the 70s and you know what, I have too much! LOL

My whole childhood, I'm there! Yep, creativity is not my gift, we are a
mellow bunch. ;)

Oh, it was for real. It was a LOT of fun, too. I'm considering
retiring, as I'm not sure I can top it. I even decided not to have a
birthday party next month, since I don't have time to plan something
fun and different.

The Easy Bake Oven is amazing isn't it? Who knew that you could bake a
cake with just a light bulb?

Here's one for sale on Ebay. :-) This is just like the one we
had....basically the same concept, just a different brand.

I have "re-bought" a lot of things my parents sold from my toy collection.
Nothing like adding to my junk. :-) I missed my 70s toys!

You can do much more than that. There is a cookbook called the Easy
Bake Oven Gourmet and it has recipes from well known chefs for all
sorts of things. We made quesadillas and jalapeno corn cakes

My cousins used to have the Easy Bake Oven and when we ran out of the
mixes we used to use stuff from the kitchen to makeshift treats. One
that comes to mind was some weird peanut butter and jelly sandwich
thingie that we must have sent thru the oven to toast or heat. It
sounds gross to me now but back then - YUM-EEEEEE.

Food out on the table. My friends take turns at the piano and everyone
gigs. We just keep opening up more sheet music and away we go.

Nope. Just a musician with a lot of musician friends who would rather play

Well, now the party has truly degenerated to this:

Most of the carousers have left, and the drinks are wearing low...on comes
the Elliott performances, one by one, and wallowing in misery ensues.

It's just so damn unfair! Why, oh why, can't they see?

;)

but I'm only half joking

:(

Sorry, Elliott...be seeing ya around, I hope!
