Two of the five previously unknown girls were eliminated last week. The
remaining three are Stephanie, Leslie, and Sabrina. Have they done enough
to stand out yet? I would say so.

PRELIMINARIES

Tape is rolled of the girls strolling out. They're actually standing on
the little catwalk/balcony thing overlooking the stage. SITJ. Seacrest
asks if the boys' performances last night balanced things out. Randy said
yes. Paula said the girls look gorgeous. Simon said the biggest trap at
this point is not giving themselves and identity.

Like last night, each song has a dedication.

PERFORMANCES

Gina Glocksen - "Alone"
Dedication: her boyfriend, who encouraged her to try out again this year.
Gina's song starts out quietly, but unlike many of the other contestants,
she can handle that just fine ... maybe even better than the loud part,
which was yelly and flat. Randy said the opposite, that she started weak
and finished strong. Props to the backup singer. Paula said it was
excellent. Simon said the vocals were very forced at the end. Simon said
he is a little confused about who Gina is. He doesn't think she looks
edgy. Gina agrees that she won't be able to out-power all of the other
girls.

[break]

SITJ = Seacrest introduces the judges.

[return]

On the red Coca-Cola couch, Seacrest calls LaKisha's display of her legs,
"very very sexy." LaKisha says she's not too pumped up about the good
feedback she received this week.

Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title)

Dedication: her mother, who cried while watching the video. Alaina's voice
sounds decent tonight, but it's a country song, so it's wasted. There are
too many words to this song, spoken too quickly. I don't like the song,
and the performance was just decent. Randy said the first couple of bars
were good, but then she lost the pitch. Alaina squints a lot. Did she just
stick out her tongue? Paula said that the pitch was off, but not as off as
Randy said. Shut up, Paula. Simon said she started off fine, but ran out
of steam. Paula said she looks adorable. Alaina asks for suggestions what
to do, so Seacrest and the judges engaged in some pointless arguing.

LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"

Dedication: her grandmother, who loves Ryan Seacrest. Was that a Fantasia
lishp? She's using a lot of vibrato. So far, not much is happening in this
song. Don't tell me that LaKisha is one of those singers who is only
interesting when she's yelling. I was really hoping she would be more
versatile than that. No, this was pretty dull. Randy said it was hot.
Paula said she loved it, and she loves her. Simon said she is a
phenomenally good singer, but it wasn't as good as last week. She needs to
start acting like a big star. Simon said he didn't like her outfit -
bright orange shirt and denim skirt - and found it distracting. Seacrest
said the color is salmon.

[break]

GFTC - gotta feed the cats.

I was busy with the cats when a new Geico caveman ad came on, but I found
it hard to follow. The cavemen were standing on a balcony contemplating
their lives, or futures, or something. It seemed to be a pretty deep topic
for someone wearing that much makeup to be discussing on a car insurance
commercial.

[return]

Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"

Dedication: her two best friends, who are her voice coach and her stylist.
So let me get this straight - is she paying two people to be her best
friends? She sounds mature when she's speaking. I don't like the song, and
I don't like what she's doing with it, especially at the end, when she
strung the word "day" out to five syllables. Randy liked it and said it
was hot. Paula said it was astounding and out of this world. Simon said it
was incredible, and without question, the best vocal so far in the
competition. He also said, once again, that he likes how modest and
unpretentious Melinda is. Maybe so, but knowing that she already has a
personal staff makes her suddenly seem less like the babe in the woods
that I thought she was.

[break]

The only funny ad I've seen for "The Wedding Bells" is the one where the
lady is flapping her arm, and the other woman says, "look at it go."

[return]

Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"

Dedication: her brother. Considering all of the stuff that's happened this
week, I'm surprised Antonella wore a skirt that falls above her knees. She
sounds nervous. Either that, or she just has a natural tremble in her
voice. It didn't start well, but when she went into her upper register, it
sounded quite good, and it stayed good afterward. Perhaps she finally
conquered her nerves. Randy said she's beautiful, but the song was way too
big for her. Antonella looked frustrated. Paula said it was much better
than last week. Simon said it was worse than last week. Antonella said
she'll listen to Paula because "Simon was wrong about Jennifer Hudson."
Simon said that the judges put Jennifer Hudson in American Idol, and
America voted her out. I have a feeling all that was planned. Planned or
not, Antonella isn't doing her image any favors by appearing sassy and
spoiled. She's still hot, though.

[break]
[return]

Seacrest says that Sanjaya has better hair than any of the girls.

Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"
Dedication: her brother. I am officially the only person on this newsgroup
who didn't like Jordin's performance last week. Let's see what happens
this week. The words at the beginning were mushy, and she took too many
loud breaths. She points way too much. If you like a lot of loud
breathing and pointing, you'll like Jordin, but I don't, so I don't. I
also think she sang like crap. She missed a lot of notes. She's crying.
Randy said it "had some little pitchy moments." Yeah, the beginning, the
middle, and the end. It wasn't Jordin's best, said Randy, but it was still
really good. Paula said Jordin is brilliant and talented. Simon said it
wasn't her best, but compared to a lot of other people, it was excellent.
She has great potential, though. Jordin's dad is here. She loves him.

[break]

So far, I haven't enjoyed any of the performances tonight, except Gina's.
It's tough to rank a bunch of performances you don't like. I really liked
Stephanie and Sabrina last week, though, so there's still hope.

[return]

Seacrest announces that Kellie Pickler will be on the results show
tomorrow. Stephanie, once again, has very nice boobs. She says that the
girls aren't competitive or catty. The judges react in scripted disbelief.

Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

Dedication: her parents, who forced her to audition. Dang, she even wore a
low-cut dress to her audition. She must have a closet full of them! Oh,
Stephanie ... I was counting on you to help make this a good night, but
you let me down. I don't recognize the song, but it sounds like something
Beyonce would sing. I don't like it. Stephanie has an undeniable gift for
performing, and her voice sounds great. She did a "whoo!" at the end, just
like last week. Randy said she looks hot and "sang her face off." Randy
confirms it was a Beyonce song and Stephanie, didn't sound original on it.
Paula liked it. Simon said it was terrific. Randy said she should cut down
on the vibrato.

[break]
[return]

Haley says she's going to speed it up and rock out to dodge the cabaret
accusation. Leslie says she's not going to flap around.

Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

Dedication: her late grandfather. Leslie has an interesting voice and an
interesting look. This is a slow jazz song. Didn't someone do this song
last week? I didn't know the title then, either. She flapped around some
at the end. She's just strange to look at, but she has a great voice.
Randy said it was pitchy and just ah'ight. Paula liked it. Simon said the
scatting part at the end sounded like Paula talking, and then he went
"blub blub blub," pretending to imitate Paula. He said it was good, but
not memorable. Seacrest has a transcript of the lyrics, "dweedle bum dop,
etc."

Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"

Dedication: her fiance. I'm not buying the rocker chick vibe. She still
looks like a Miss America contestant. I say Haley should do the Broadway,
cabaret stuff and run with it. This wasn't very good, IMO. Randy said it
wasn't great. The song had too much backing vocals. Paula said it was a
lot better than last week. Simon said gave an A for effort, but it was "a
little bit manic, verging on insane." It was a Whitney Houston song. Simon
said Haley is vulnerable tonight.

[break]
[return]

Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"

Dedication: her grandmother, who wears big hats, and often wears corsages.
I like this song. She's doing OK with it, but she's not really owning it.
I hate to use phrases trademarked by the judges, but it was a little too
big for her. She still sounded good overall, and it was my second-favorite
performance of the night. Randy said it wasn't perfect, but it was good.
Paula liked it. Simon said she was on the verge of pushing it too far, and
he liked her better last week, but she's still good.

WRAPUP

We saw recaps of the performances. Gina rocked. Alaina squinted and
pointed, just like Phil Keoghan on "The Amazing Race." LaKisha wore
salmon. Melinda sang a bad song. Antonella did better than last week.
Jordin breathed heavily and pointed. Stephanie did a Beyonce impression.
Leslie scatted. Haley faked being a rocker chick. Sabrina almost pushed
herself too far.

I was wrong - there wasn't one word said - or even a vague allusion to -
Antonella's pictures.

My ranking of tonight's performances:
1. Gina Glocksen
2. Sabrina Sloan
(I didn't really care for the rest, and don't feel too strongly about the
order, except that Jordin was worst.)
3. Stephanie Edwards
4. Leslie Hunt
5. LaKisha Jones
6. Antonella Barba
7. Haley Scarnato
8. Melinda Doolittle
9. Alaina Alexander
10. Jordin Sparks

I forgot to say who I think will be eliminated. I think Alaina is for
sure. The other elimination is really tough to call, but just to throw a
name out, I'll say Haley.

4. LaKisha
5. Gina
6. Leslie

I liked this performance, even though the bg singers were a bit
overpowering at times.

Ick.

> LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"

Thought it was a little boring. Not close to last week's performance.

> Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"

It was a'ight, but not memorable.

> Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"

Ick x2. Saying it was better than last week is like saying a root
canal is more fun than a colonoscopy.

> Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"

I like her liveliness but another boring song.

> Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

Didn't like this one at all; she can sing, but it just sounded off to
me.

> Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

Wasn't it "Feelin' Good", the same one AJ murdered last night? I
liked this one, and I like her.

> Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"

You nailed it, sir, with the Miss America comparison. I wanna feel
like the singer is not just performing, but feeling what they perform,
and I just don't get that vibe from her. Seems plastic.

> Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"

I liked this one. She's a pretty gal too, so maybe she'll be around
for a bit.

Favorite of the night was Leslie, but I'm afraid she'll be in the
bottom along with Alaina and Haley.

Errrrr.....(Paraphrased)

Simon (To Melinda) There are some people in this competition who don't
sing well who are getting attention for all the wrong reasons.....

This is as far as I got with this post before my wife corrected me and
said i was wrong

Last day of sweeps. That means reruns galore tomorrow. But on the bright
side, only nine days until contest time!

> Gina Glocksen - "Alone"
Gina < Carrie

> Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title)

I had it and I forgot. I'd say it looks bleak.

LaKisha just lost Mom's vote (she hates this song), but I doubt she'll need
it.

> Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"

Melinda > Constantine

> Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"

Tsk tsk. Did Antonella learn anything from last week?

> Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"
This one has me on the fence. This song I know, and this performance was a
slow roller back to the mound. I believe her fans will keep her out of
trouble, but stranger things have happened.

> Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

Mom didn't like the song, but what would a grandmother of two know about
Beyonce?

> Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

Your guess is as good as mine. I've never heard this song before.

> Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"

See Leslie. And she's engaged, so she just lost my vote. :-(

> Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"

I think that's "All the Man That I Need". Last week it was Aretha, now
we've got an overload of Whitney tonight.

> WRAPUP
As I-guy said, two of the five girls we knew squadoosh about coming into
last week got the gate. Of the remaining three, Stephanie is the surest bet
to advance to the round of 16, but the other two are on thin ice. I think
some combination of them, Alaina, and Antonella will be sent to AI's version
of Exile Island tomorrow.

Forgettable. Her voice is too thin, and she needed a lot of support
from the background singers. She can't project worth a dern.

I loved it. It was a smooth, professional performance which shows that
she's more than a big-voiced diva.

Not a great song choice. She got a bit shouty on it. But a solid
performance.

She knocked it out of the park.

Haley's voice and performances are just odd. I can't pinpoint what I
don't like, it's just...off.

Great song that is perfect for her, and she nailed it.

Who should go....Antoilet and Alaina.
Who will go...Haley and Leslie.

I love Leslie, but I have no delusions that she'll advance far in this
contest. RPS are doing their best de-pimp on her.

I also worry because Lakesha and Melinda have set the bar really
high...so high that they may not be able to maintain it as time goes
on.

Once again, in real time and without reading anyone's reviews.

Will Ryan say anything about Antonella? On the other hand, GO
HOMETOWN HALEY! Randy's shirt is fugly--I hate paisley. I think
Antonella actually has stood out so she shouldn't really applaud.

>
> PERFORMANCES
>
> Gina Glocksen - "Alone"

Not really a good performance but Ann Wilson is darned hard to sing.
The beginning was better, but when it kicked it was shrill. And no,
it didn't sound anything like Heart. I agree with Simon about the
vocals. I wonder what Simon would say if Gina had come out singing
"Barracuda"?
>
> Alaina Alexander - Not Ready to Make Nice (the Dixie Chicks Grammy winner)
Nice intro package but she still sucks eggs at singing. She doesn't
have the voice for this and really needs to go. Several bad notes,
shouting, and not enough attitude. Yuck. Actually I do like the
fushia in Randy's shirt and I agree with all he said. I don't think
she ran out of steam, I think she was dead in the gate.

>
> LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"

She looks really nice in the orange, it's a good color for her and,
unlike Mandisa last year, she knows how to dress for her size. A very
safe performance, nothing special but she has a great voice and look
and is safe. Once again, I agree with Simon, except for the outfit.

Is Ryan the king of the metrosexuals or what? "This is salmon"--or
sal-mon, as the Pick might say.

Completly off topic, my mom was surprised at the new Turtles movie,
but old cartoon shows never die, they just get repackaged and sent out
again. Witness the Power Rangers or the many incantations of Scooby
Doo.

>
> Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"

Owning the stage? Don't think so, thus far. Anyway, on to Melinda
whom I love. A entourage already? Good rendition and she has a
little Sarah Vaughn in her. All the Lakisha love this week so far
belongs to this gal here. Perfection.

Guys on their feet for Simon's comment and I agree 100%. Jason, this
is my pick for the winner this year in the Certainty contest.

Poor Antonella having to follow this...

I love this Diet Coke picture commercial, it's sort of like Harry
Potter photos.

>
> Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"

This is an ugly dress--a really bad dress and I told you they wouldn't
say anything about the pictures. Nigel said so in a statement.

Anyway, onto the "singing". It started ok, but quickly turned bad.
Even worse than Alaina but she did hit the glory note. I will give
her that one thing: it was a nice high note.

Other than that...ghastly. Paula is crazy with her judgements, better
than last week? And Jennifer Hudson was better than this girl on her
worst day. In fact I will go further and say Fantasia sings better,
which is really scary.

PC needs to beat Mac down. Mac is an arrogant little prick, pardon
the language.
>
> Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"
Dangerous Xtina territory. Let me state Xtina is a great singer.
This is just not as good as last week. It gets a little better as it
goes on, but not as good as last week. Please have everyone call a
moritorium on any Christina song.

Jordan is actually like Diana DeGarmo, young with a powerful belt.
Randy and Paula loved Diana while Simon disliked her. He seems to
like Jordan though and so do I, but the performance wasn't great.

>
> Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

Pickler is the guest next week. No comment.

Stephanie looks great and I still get a LaToya vibe from her, except
she's warmer if that makes sense. I like this song if not the
singing of it. It's like she's really trying hard and it shows.
It's not bad, but...I think I agree with Randy. Melinda really does
have it all over the others this week, though.

>
> Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

Has anyone heard the rumor that Anna Nicole Smith had lupus and that's
what was wrong with her and why she took all those meds? I'm glad
Vergie lost. Anyway...

Uh oh, this was the song AJ sang yesterday. Leslie gives some
interesting scat and it was not a bad performance. The beginning was
better than the end, though. Good putdown on Paula by Simon. Poor
Leslie looks lost but cute bit at the end though.

Does anyone remember when Orson Wells used to recite song lyrics as
poetry on TV variety shows?

>
> Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"

My hometown girl. Well, if you have to do Whitney this is a little
different song to pick. I want to like Haley and hope she stays but
this wasn't the best. However, there were a couple who were worse, so
I maintain hope.

Funny how they aren't consistant. Vonzell did this same kind of song
where she only sang a chorus basically (wasn't it "I'm Every Woman"?)
and they praised the hell out of her. It's just a thing that makes me
go hmmm.

Playing "Wham Rap" on the Blackjack commercial makes me want to listen
to it. That and "Bad Boys", which is actually my favorite Wham song.
Am I dating myself or what? First Orson Wells and then very early
Wham...

>
> Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"

Sabrina not only looks like Mya Rudolph but also a great deal like
Gloria Estaban.

In fact, she reminds me of Gloria E. This is a pretty good
performance with a great end. You know, Lakisha screamed last week
and Simon didn't say anything. Another thing that makes you say hmm.

I'd have to put Melinda's vocal performance ahead of Lakeisha's, although I
hate that kind of music. DH, OTOH, loves that kind of music, and says that
he thought Melinda's version was better than Shirley Bassey's, which he
loved. But even as someone who doesn't like that kind of music, I could
tell that her vocals were fantastic.

As just said in another post, last week I told DH that I hope Lakeisha sings
Gladys Knights "Neither One of Us Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye".
She got it half right. I LOOOVEEE Gladys (saw her up close and personal a
couple of years back, a hightlight of my adult years!), and while I was a
little glad to see Lakeisha show a bit of a softer side, not so much
belting, I still think my song would have been better. :-) I think she has
incredible control.

> 3 Jordan

I agree. I think she was choked up about the dedication, but I think this
girl has a LOT of potential.

>
> 4 Stephanie

Oh dear. This is where I would have to start disagreeing with you. I don't
know the song, and there was SO much going on in it that it all sounded
muddled. I didn't enjoy it at all.

> 5 Leslie

<gulp> I swear it sounds to me that she has a speech impediment. Or that
she is from Canada. ;-)

> 6 Sabrina

She butchered my favorite BY FAR Whitney song. I may not be able to forgive
her.

Now see, you had me with the first three. But, for me it goes like this:

4. Haley
5. Gina
6. Sabrina (based really on last weeks performance)
7. Stephanie
8 & 9. Leslie and Alaina tied
10. Antonella

Pretty good really and didn't seem as desperate as she has been on

So many good songs from this era and genre...not sure why this one had
to be dragged out again. But LaKisha kicks butt even on an off-night

Simply fantastic. Loved the arrangement of the tune and her
performance was the first goose-bump inducing moment this year.

>
>Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"

Similar to Alaina in that she is just not very good, technically or
tonally speaking, as a singer. On top of that she (and her now
departed friend) are a couple of immature freshman co-ed bitches ("God
smiles on good people"). God please let this tramp be gone.

>Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"

Forgettable. Girl is good but not final 4 or even 8 good.

>Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

I thought she was a lot worse this week than the judges did. Thought
it was pretty bad pitch-wise and the long screamer was pretty wobbly.
Still better than others tonight...hopefully was just an off-night.

>Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

What a wierd performance. She's got a neat voice when she gets Bonnie
Tyler raspy but she has completely steered away from that. She may be
gone...but I hope she's not. Either way, even though I kind of like
her, she's not even close to being in the final 12 this year.

Hmmm...I didn't think this one was as bad as the judges did. Thought
she was sexy and put on a sexy performance.

Cracks in the armor after slammin it down last week. She's safe, but
showed tonight she's not perfect and so goes my favorite to win it all
if she continues to slide.

Pretty bad week for the females with one or two exceptions. Combined
with 2 bad weeks for the guys (and let's face it the guys are
officially bad no matter how much the judges tried to bail them out
last night) I'm not sure if I'm gonna be in for the duration or
minimally each and every show this year. Think you'll be seeing
similar talent in this years final 4 as last year's final 12.

Lakisha should sing "Your the best thing that ever happened to me" by
Gladys. It will be interesting when she has to sing outside the
Motown genre. Her intonation is very good so I expect her to do very
well. Her singing ability, humble nature, and personal history should
help her to go very far.

[It pains me to have to post through Google Groups, but my regular
server doesn't seem to want me to post to this thread!]

PRELIMINARIES

A step down for the girls this week, but they were still better than
the boys overall. I'm happy to see the gender divide diminish,
however, since it makes the whole contest more exciting.

PERFORMANCES

Gina Glocksen - "Alone"

Not that good. Pitchy and a little boring. She should have done a
lot better, and I think she might be in danger tonight.

Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title)

Totally forgettable. The contestants need to learn that hooking fans
with memorable performances is *crucial* at this early stage. I
wouldn't be surprised if she gets booted.

LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"

A nice follow-up to last week... more low key, but not boring. She's
easily through this week and into the F12, barring a horrible
performance next week.

Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"

Nearly wonderful. Best of the night. I really like her a lot, not
just for her talents, but for her sweet, unpretentious personality.
(And all the haters ragging on her for daring to ever mention her
child will hopefully shut up now, because there wasn't a peep about
the kid at all tonight, despite the dedication theme.)

Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"

Better than last week, but still not that good. It's hard to predict
what'll happen because of her pictures. Do these give her the needed
exposure for people to remember to vote for her? Or do they turn
potential voters away? I'm a bit shocked to say that I think she was
better than Gina tonight.

Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"

A solid performance, but it seemed to be missing some energy,
especially in the first half. There's a chance she could get
forgotten in the voting and undeservedly slip through the cracks.

Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

Eesh, I don't know. I can see that some people might have liked it,
but it really didn't connect with me at all. It wasn't bad, it was
just totally uninteresting. I really just don't know how this
performance will fit in the grand scheme of the evening.

Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

I liked this. Not the best vocals, but an enjoyable performance. I
think she needed something like this to stick around, but I'm not
convinced it was enough to convince the public to vote for her.

Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"

This was totally off for me. Worst of the night, and I think America
will agree.

Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"

Really, really good. Performing this well in the last slot should
keep her safe.

WRAPUP

I'm ignoring any blacklash because of Antonella's pictures, which
means she stays this week.

#1 Melinda
#2 LaKeisha
#3 Sabrina
#4 Leslie
#5 Jordin
#6 Stephanie
#7 Alaina
#8 Antonella
#9 Gina
#10 Haley

Personal Bottom 2: Haley and Gina

<snipped>

Good Evening Itoshi! I didn't agree with you on some of the gals
tonight, and usually I go along with the majority of you're way of
thinking. Overall, I don't think you cared for the gals as much this
week..am I right? My daughter felt the guys were better this week, and I
kinda' think they were...guess was more versatility in the type of songs
they chose, and just more fun to watch?! But....in saying that, I think
there are several top notch singers among the gals, and they are BETTER
than last year's ladies.

Gina did a good enough job to make it to the Top 12, but I still don't
care for HER, and am not sure why exactly, but I just don't. Alaina was
maybe (and that's a big maybe) better than last week..I noticed the eye
squinting to, but perhaps that was from the bright lights?! I didn't
think Lakisha was as good as last week, but still has a terrific voice,
and I don't feel she yells when she sings at all.

I don't agree with you on Melinda at all...my daughter and I both
thought she was terrific, and the best tonight, even was heads up above
Lakisha! Antonella was better than last week, but she just isn't
growing on me, as time goes on. I also don't agree with you on
Jordin..you thought she was the worst of the gals tonight, and I think
her singing was incredible!

I didn't care for the song Stephanie chose, but she looked very nice,
and I agree, she has a beautiful voice. She is so poised for just 19
years of age! Leslie was better than last week, and so was Haley, and I
liked that she did a faster number tonight and changed it up. At least
it LOOKED like she was having fun on stage, and most of them didn't give
me that impression tonight. I just like Haley, but I think she's in
danger of going!

Sabrina has a good voice, I suppose, but is not as enjoyable for me as
some of the other gals, but good enough to get to the To 12. The 6
girls that I think will make it definitely will be Gina, Lakisha,
Melinda, Jordin, Stephanie and Sabrina. Who will go tomorrow night?
Alaina and Antonella, but it could be Haley or Leslie in place of
Antonella, as I'm sure the guys dialed their fingers raw for Antonella
tonight?!

Well put. Carrie's performance of "Alone" is my #1 favorite Idol
performance of all time. It gave me chills it was so good. I think
the background singer (Charlotte?) overshot the harmony part a bit
during Gina's performance but that aside, it was not as good as
Carrie's, but probably enough to save her this week.

Gina tends to sing slightly sharp, especially when she's pushing the
sound. I like her voice when she isn't trying to push the sound. When
she pushes, her voice also becomes strident and loses its warmth.
>
> Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title) (10th place)
Dreadful. Terribly out of tune for several phrases. Has to go.
>
> LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia" (2rd place)
Had some small intonation problems, but the usual rich, well supported
voice. Wouldn't put her 2nd put can't think of anyone else to put
there.
>
> Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine" (1st place)
I didn't like everything about her styling of MY FUNNY VALENTINE but
it was still very impressive for the originality. And I liked some of
the minor 7ths etc. she threw in. The only one tonight with good
intonation.
>
> Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me" (9th place)
Thought she did better than last week, has a nice voice, but that
nerves drive her intonation slightly off at times, and also make her
lose control, but I could tell even more than she has a nice voice,
and if she could just relax a little more, she could sing well.
>
> Jordin Sparks - "Reflection" (6th place)
I like the tone of Jordin's voice. It is very appealling.
Unfortunately, she was out of tune a lot and some of her breathing was
gaspy.
>
> Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love" (4th place)
Stephanie has the potential to win this but last night she was lagging
the beat, which made me feel uncomfortable through most of the song,
that she was trying to catch up and might not quite make it. Her
intonation was also a bit off in some places, but as a performer,
she's probably one of the best.
>
> Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title) (tie, 7th place)
Very nice beginning, almost. Lots of little intonation problems.
>
> Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night" (tie, 7th place)
Well, Haley certainly showed she can change it up, and sing in
something other than her Mary Martin musical theater voice, but I
didn't like it.
>
> Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up" (3rd place)
Sabrina has a lot of control and potential. With her virtuoso
abilities and face, she reminds me of Streisand, but just a little,
since her voice isn't nearly as beautiful as Streisand's.
>
> WRAPUP
Especially after listening a 2nd time, I was disappointed in tonight's
performances. If they don't like the way Glockson or Lakisha dresses,
they should have a stylist pick their clothes. Lakisha is going to be
hard to dress but certainly they could find a look to keep her parts
in control. Simon is the one who keeps saying it a singing contest,
but last night he seemed to want to make it into a dressing contest,
which as I recall was the problem he had with Hudson at one point.

I like that Antonella is a bit sassy. Kind of a naughty Catholic
school girl. I figure she could very well be good for another week.
Haley needs to rush off, get married and make babies.

> Gina Glocksen - "Alone"

I love this girl's low register! It is rich and powerful. I just wish
I liked her upper range as well, but it thins out and is not very
beautiful. This is where she also starts getting pitchy. And it's never
a good thing when one of the backup singers kick your ass all over the
stage and then takes a bow for it. But it was a strong perormance
overall and I understood it (unlike Stephanie's, which see)

>
> Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title)

I kinda liked the opening, a little bit anyway, but then it got *real*
pitchy. The backup singers were carrying her, which was just as well
because her full out voice is not attractive. And her hand gestures
were too frantic. Bad all around. Poor kid.

>
> LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"

A commanding performance (way better than Paris Bennett's, that's for
sure.) I think she sang it as swell as this song can be sung.

>
> Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"

She turned this inside out and made it her bitch! :-) I didn't love
*every* twist and turn she gave it, but she did it all masterfully. And
she's got a range and seems equally strong across its entirety. A
seasoned pro.

>
> Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"

Nasal, pitchy, nervous vibrato, brought nothing to the party.

>
> Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"

As much as I liked her last week, I didn't like her this week. Didn't
have the range for the song and was pitchy throughout, especially at the
beginning. Too much yelping and hiccuping. Low register was weak and
upper was forced.

>
> Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

I don't know the song, but there was no discernible melody was there?
That, coupled with a really wide , bouncy vibrato and short notes made
it really odd sounding to me. But she is a dynamic performer.

>
> Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

I like her voice, or at least I *want* to like her voice. I liked the
sultry beginning. It seems like she has some technique issues like lack
of proper support for one (evident in iffy pitch and watery tone and
lack of sustained power) and she could be much better than she is if she
could overcome them. Something in her performance seemed like play
acting a little bit, like she's *trying* hard to be hip and sexy and
dangerous. Her scat singing wasn't great. But she *was* better than
last week.

>
> Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"

This was much better for her than last week. This style suited her
voice really well. It was too bad the backup singers had so much,
because it did cover her up and she really didn't need the help (unlike
Alaina). I thought she was unfairly worked over by the judges.

>
> Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"

Good range, pitch, control and power. Her voice gets a little forced at
the top. And it was too bad the last note was on an "eee" vowel. But I
was impressed with her last week and was this week as well.

I think Simon was trying to say (politely for a change) that the outfit

I'm glad Randy said it because I was thinking it. When your vibrato is
slow and wide and the notes you're singing are short, some notes
disappear entirely into the dips of the vibrato and everything sounds
bumpy. I didn't like her performance this week.

I thought it was better than the judges gave her credit for and it was

Better than last week, but still not that good. It's hard to predict

what'll happen because of her pictures. Do these give her the needed
exposure for people to remember to vote for her? Or do they turn
potential voters away? I'm a bit shocked to say that I think she was
better than Gina tonight.

Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"

A solid performance, but it seemed to be missing some energy,
especially in the first half. There's a chance she could get
forgotten in the voting and undeservedly slip through the cracks.

Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"

Eesh, I don't know. I can see that some people might have liked it,

but it really didn't connect with me at all. It wasn't bad, it was
just totally uninteresting. I really just don't know how this
performance will fit in the grand scheme of the evening.

Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

I liked this. Not the best vocals, but an enjoyable performance. I
think she needed something like this to stick around, but I'm not
convinced it was enough to convince the public to vote for her.

Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"

This was totally off for me. Worst of the night, and I think America
will agree.

Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"

Really, really good. Performing this well in the last slot should
keep her safe.

> PRELIMINARIES

Not as good as last week's girls' night, but I think it was still
better overall than the guys this week. But the competition is closer
between the genders now, which is good.

> PERFORMANCES
>
> Gina Glocksen - "Alone"

Not that good. Pitchy and a little boring. She should have done a
lot better, and I think she might be in danger tonight.

> Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title)

Totally forgettable. The contestants need to learn that hooking fans
with memorable performances is *crucial* at this early stage. I
wouldn't be surprised if she gets booted.

> LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"

A nice follow-up to last week... more low key, but not boring. She's
easily through this week and into the F12, barring a horrible
performance next week.

> Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"

Nearly wonderful. Best of the night. I really like her a lot, not

just for her talent, but for her sweet, unpretentious personality.

(And all the haters ragging on her for daring to ever mention her
child will hopefully shut up now, because there wasn't a peep about
the kid at all tonight, despite the dedication theme.)

A step down for the girls this week, but they were still better than

Really not an individual comment, because I think the whole field made
a statement...

They're trying to find someone, _ANYONE_, to out-skin Antonella. I
saw more leg on that show than I think I've seen on Idol in years.

And not all of it looked good, either...

Like last week, I think there were a couple of girl performances that
were superior to the guys. However, I also think there were some very
bad performances last night that sunk below the level of the worst of
the guys.

>PERFORMANCES
>
>Gina Glocksen - "Alone"

I liked this performance, but actually think the outfit may have hurt
her. It gave Simon an in to insult her, and that might be all it
takes to put her in danger, considering she started off the night and
might have been overshadowed by a couple of the ladies that followed
her. Definitely on the bubble.

>
>Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title)
>

This was just about as bad as last week and definitely puts her in the
danger zone. She is definitely in danger of leaving this week, but
what do I know? I thought she was gone last week.

>LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"
>

This was not as good as last week, but still good. I wouldn't call it
a crack in her armor, but I would say it shows that she doesn't have
this whole thing wrapped up just yet. She is no where near the danger
zone at this point.

>Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"
>

This was as good as last week and elevated her to the top level
status. She has a good personality, so she will be around for a long
time. I don't see her in any danger at all.

>Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"
>

Not quite as bad as last week, but bad just the same. On vocal
merits, she would be gone. However, in Antonella's case, her voice
means nothing at this point and she will be around for while yet.

>Jordin Sparks - "Reflection"
>
This was a nice performance, although not perfect by any means.
She is probably not in any real danger yet though because her tears
definitely bought her some votes.

>Stephanie Edwards - "Dangerously In Love"
>

I actually think Stephanie is in some danger this week. She was the
lesser of the divas and that will hurt her at some point, perhaps even
this week. I don't see her making the finals and see someone like
Antonella filling a spot that vocally probably should be hers.
Demographics suck sometimes but we all know they play a big part here
and she shares a demo with at least 3-4 other girls.

>Leslie Hunt - (I don't know the title)

I hated this, but maybe it was just because I don't get that type of
singing, especially when it is a woman singing it (remember, I am not
really a big fan of female singers to start with). Her goofy
movements were back again. I even noticed them when she talks. I
know I shouldn't be superficial but it is very offputting to me and I
cannot stand watching her perform. Probably sounds funny from someone
that loved Taylor, ticks and all, but there is just something
unsettling about her performance style. I thought she was gone last
week and again I think she is in some danger, however I have noticed
that many people feel she improved so she might make it through one
more week and take her exit next week.

>
>Haley Scarnato - "Queen of the Night"
>

This was a real throwaway performance and she couldn't even pull it
off. It was not at all challenging and still she laid an egg. I
think after that performance she is in real danger again. She is not
long for this competition. I would probably say it is either this
week or next. If she makes it to the finals, I would be shocked.

>Sabrina Sloan - "He Builds Me Up"
>

I thought this was good, but no where nearly as good as last week. I
think she is probably safe and the pimp spot definitely helped, but
she needs to pick better songs if she wants to continue to hide her
vocal weaknesses. She is in the big demo and that could be a problem
during the finals.
>WRAPUP

I think that the ones going should be Antonella and Leslie. However I
would guess that Antonella will be safe and Stephanie or Hayley will
leave instead.

I know I'm a few days behind, but, for what it is worth, here I go. By the
way, I haven't watched the finals yet. I know which guys went bye-bye, but
I'm unsure on at least one of the girls.:
> Gina Glocksen - "Alone"
Nice voice, but she looked like a red sausage casing. She's safe and I
think will make final 12, but I can't say as I like her.

>
> Alaina Alexander - (I don't know the title)
That was just bad.

>
> LaKisha Jones - "Midnight Train to Georgia"
I still like her, but not as much as last week. She's safe for the 12.

>
> Melinda Doolittle - "My Funny Valentine"
My favorite of the night. She did some great, showy, jazzy licks and I
liked her presence. She obviously understands that she needs input to put
forth a good image and is presenting herself very wisely. Very humble and
sweet. I enjoy her voice more than anyone else, but matching the power of
Lakisha is going to be her challege. The difference is, that Melinda is
tastier in her vocal choices.

>
> Antonella Barba - "Because You Love Me"
Please end the insanity now. I barely recognized "Becuz U Lub Meh."

Way overdone and, in this case, not terribly well. Charming girl, however.

She's a keeper. She'd better be safe for the 12!

Goofy rendition, but I like her. I like scat, in general, when it is done
well and she did a respectable job. I know she's gone, which I think was a
mistake because she was so much better than Barba.

Good job, but far too pitchy not to make her at risk if I was the only
person voting.

>

Overdone. Less is more. Danger girl.

>
> Antonella Barba - (I don't know this song)
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Okay, it wasn't horrific, but it is sort of like
putting a child's painting next to a bunch of paintings by Michelangelo.
Poor thing, I honestly feel sorry for her. I think, if she doesn't go,
we'll be seeing that famous John Stevens look on her face, if you know what
I mean.

>
> Haley Scarnato - "If My Heart Had Wings"
Danger, serious danger. Pretty voice, but I think she will be gone this
week. She reminds me of some of the lovely, yet indisinquishable voices I
hear at Disneyland.

>
> Stephanie Edwards - (I don't know this song)
She was good, better than Jordin and, unless I am way off (it has happened
before) I think she's safe. However, the top four will escape her if she
isn't careful.

>
> LaKisha Jones - "If I Don't Have You" (?)
I adored her little interview with Ryan. That is the sort of sweet, open
personality we need to see more of. We already know the girl can sing. She
did a wonderful job with this song, but the family (bless their hearts) are
going to drive me buggy.

>
> Gina Glocksen - "Made Up Your Mind" (?)
I'm not fond of this style, but I know many of my students are. The range
was far too small, but the style was right. I don't know what I think about
her. She'll be around for a while and she can sing, but I just don't know.

Oh my. Cancel the rest of AI6...I mean let us just put this season out of
its misery. The Queen took that stage, chewed it up and spit it back out
again. She is fabulous. I will definately go see her in concert. I love
her style, her personality and that sweet likeability she has. This was
amazing.

PRELIMINARIES

Jordin Sparks - "Heartbreaker"

place.***

Antonella Barba - (I don't know this song)

Haley Scarnato - "If My Heart Had Wings"

***Very pretty girl but bad song and weak voice. Felt sorry for her
after Simon's comments. He didn't know her name? Damn that's cold
blooded.***

Stephanie Edwards - (I don't know this song)

***Good job overall but had tempo and phrase timing problems. It's
actually cool sometimes when a vocalist comes in late with a phrase but
NOT during the whole entire song. She's very elegant and classy
looking.***

LaKisha Jones - "If I Don't Have You" (?)

***Very good rendition. Very powerful vocal, but her lisp bothers me a
bit.***

Gina Glocksen - "Made Up Your Mind" (?)

***Did absolutely nothing for me. Holloween in March?***

Melinda Doolittle - "I'm a Woman"

***She is on another level with overall talent. Ms. Doolittle is on the
observation deck of a skyscraper and the others are still on the ground
level. PHENOMINAL performance. She's got "IT!" I think she might be the
