"The contracts are confidential, but due to their alleged unfairness there have been some facts leaked to the public. For example the contestants have to sign that they are okay that the show “may be disparaging, defamatory, embarrassing (and) may expose me to public ridicule, humiliation, or condemnation” according to NY Daily News. They also have to acknowledge that the show is allowed to rig the system against them."

It goes on to say they don't get paid. They get a stipend to pay for food, lodging and transportation. I'm curious about this. Can they really get away with not paying them? If they only get a stipend for food, I hope they stock up on ramen noodles. I've heard non-winners from AI talk about how they blew through all the money they made on AI. Not sure if that is from the show or the tour. I assumed they made the TV standard for each show they appeared on. I guess all the money from The Voice goes to their judges.

Interesting thought. How could people take weeks off from their jobs
to be on the show if they don't get paid? How do they pay their
housing, utilities, phone bills, car payments and insurance etc. while
they are on the show?

I can see it now on the Welfare application, lol. "I lost everything
including my job because I was a contestant on The Voice."

As bad as contracts sound with all the things they are allowed to do to contestants,
I think a lot of it is for CYA purposes. They probably don't purposely do a lot of
those things, but are protecting themselves in case they get accused of them.

Contestant exposure is good, but I agree with the article that they should be paid.
Coaches are getting paid obscene amounts for exposure that is clearly beefing up
their careers.

My next question is, what about the iTunes sales? Do the contestants get a share of that? That would suck to make it to the final two and not win, and then go home to find out you've been evicted for not paying your bills. Does the winner get the $100,000 all at once or over 40 years like America's Got Talent? Now they have my curiosity going. It wouldn't take much to get Blake Shelton drunk enough to spill all the secrets. Everyone load up your liquor, we're going on a road trip! LOL
