Well, in all his "spare time", he started noodling around with "Guitar Hero"
(I didn't even know such a game existed until he told me, but apparently
it's the hottest thing on the gaming market right now). He didn't like how
you had to watch a television screen as you learned how to play the notes
(real guitarists watch the guitar and their fingers while they're learning).
So he developed a mod to put the video screen *inside* the guitar (now
understand how thin a guitar is and the limited space you have on the box).
But that wasn't enough for him. Because the LCD took up the space where the
strummer resided and there was no way to strum the guitar, he decided to add
a magnetic switch under the body to allow him to play the guitar with a
magnetic pick. Still wasn't good enough - he added a touch panel to it too.
Now all the big gaming companies keep an eye on his site (that's how the
Reebok / Wii people found him) because they sell more of whatever game he's
currently modding and they like to keep one step ahead of the market. Most
of the big companies *pay* him to mod their games and are always sending him
free games asking him to do reviews of their products (his site gets
millions of hits a day - apparently gaming is very popular now-a-days ;> -
when he put the guitar mod on the web he got so many "hits" that it brought
the server down).
So today a representative from Sony called him to ask him if they could
feature him and his "Guitar Hero" mod in an upcoming issue of "Playstation
Magazine"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's the direct link to the "Guitar Hero" mod in case you're interested in
that game: http://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=11857.0
I told him he'd better buy me a nice house after he gets his first million!

SUPER CONGRATS to your son and yourself! You've every reason to be a
pretty proud mom.
--
I hope we can all be good neighbors online!
Was that pretty *AND* proud (did you for get the comma) or was that "pretty"
a modifier for "proud"? ;>
Hugs,
CatNipped <--- shamelessly fishing for compliments.
He meant you're pretty.
TC - hooked
TC, you sweet talker you! ;> You're the nicest catch I've had all day!!!
Hugs,
CatNipped
I am in such awe of him. I can recognize a good idea once I hear it, but I
couldn't entice a good idea into my head with caviar and Champaign! I have
*NO* idea how he comes up with these things, much less makes them once he
does!
Hugs,
CatNipped
CatN - Personally I don't know much about video games; however I DO
believe I have heard about "Guitar Hero". But.....my son is very into
games and I'm going to send him the links to look at.
I can tell how very proud you are and rightly so. This is such a super
accomplishment for your son and you and he must be busting at the
seams. Congrats all the way around. :-)
-------------------------------------------
What's really funny is that he's trying to be so blasé about going to
Barcelona. He's all, "yeah, I'm dreading that long plane ride, I'd rather
be home with my family." Now, we're just poor folk from "the parish"
outside of N'Awlins - the farthest any of us has been is Mexico. So I
*know* when he's alone he's probably doing the happy dance! ;>
Let me know what your son thinks of it please - I know squat about gaming, I
play solitaire on my computer and that's it!
Hugs,
CatNipped
ur sun iz l33t haxor.
Congrats to him and you. Tell him not to sell himself short. If they're
interested, they'll pay.
Thanks, I think! ;>

I will give him that advice, but he probably won't heed it - he's way too
trusting and generous for his own good. However, his wife is quite savvy
when it comes to finances (the first sign of her financial acuity was that
she kept her salary separate from his - had she not done that he would have
given it all away or blown it on junk - it's unfortunate, but he takes after
his mom when it comes to finance! ;>)

CatNipped
That really is wonderful, CN! I know I'd be proud of my kid if one of
them did this. As I've said before: good job, Mom.
Moni
Thanks, but I don't think I had that much to do with this! I've said it
before, I'm the dummy of the family! ;>
Hugs,
CatNipped
Totally meant in the absolutely best and strongest manner.

Outstanding, Cat, for him, and for you the proud Momma!
J.
I luuuuuuurve fried catfish! With cornmeal and flour coating - fried crisp
in hot oil, YUM! TC better start runnin'!
Hugs,
CatNipped
Good recovery, Bob - nice catch! ;>
Hugs,
CatNipped
Have any of you looked at this - if so can you explain it to me?! ;> That
boy flies so over my head he doesn't even muss my hair as he flies by!
Hugs,
CatNipped
Maybe I want to be caught... ;-)
TC
Ok, that says a LOT about you if you enjoy catfish.
That's why I make the executive decisions. :-)
HEY!!! I like all sorts of fish! Come to think of it, there isn't a
fish I've ever had that I didn't enjoy or at least find edible - I
prefer SaLmon and Halibut, but do enjoy the occasional Tilapia and
love Catfish the way 'nipped described, breaded and fried. Yu-ummm.
So what's that say about us?
With a uncle who was a fishmonger.....catfish are the cesspool of the
sea, let me put it that way.
>With a uncle who was a fishmonger.....catfish are the cesspool of the
>sea, let me put it that way.
They must live in the same sea as Jessica's chicken.
- greg, preferring his catfish freshwater, breaded with pecans and
deep fried, por favor
Well, I know what I like, and I love seafood - and let me tall ya',
the lil woman also finds my love of fish very very appealing. Yeah
baby!
LOL! Do you eat crabs? Do you know what crabs eat? ;>
EW! Don't you dare tell us the joke about the blind man in the fish
market!!! ;>
Why Catnipped, what on earth do you mean?
btw - I'm SOOOO jealous of your kid!
Hey - In addition to a real Fender knock-off for his birthday last
month, we just picked up (and somewhat against my better judgment)
that whole 'Rock Band - Special Edition' game as a Christmas gift for
our kid; it has an e-guitar like your son's modded one, plus a set of
drum pads, and a mic. Neat-O Mosquito!
You know times are good when one of the hottest selling items at
Christmas is a pretend guitar for a video game - tell your son to
strike while the iron's hot - as he stated his inspiration was a
YouTube'ed real guitar; I'm guessing a bunch more tech-heads are out
there right now working on the same thing. And remember a U.S Patent
don't mean diddly to the Chinese!
LOL! This is true. It always tickles me when a USian thinks they can "get"
somebody who is breaking a US law - well, not if they're in Russia you
can't! ;>
GROSS!! I hear crabs can be addressed pretty easily nowadays with
over the counter medicines.
LOL! But I was referring to even grosser stuff. Like the reason people in
New Orleans stopped eating crabs after Betsy and Katrina.
Hugs,
CatNipped
"Betsy and Katrina"? A couple of Vandar's "friends"?

Nah - not wild enough for Vandar! ;>

This is so cool, CN! What is your son's name? Congrats to him!
My boyfriend is a guitar player, has been for about 30 years. He tried
out Guitar Hero at a friends, and commented about how it does nothing
towards teaching people about real guitars. Maybe with your son's
mods, that can happen.
Lorraine G.
You must've missed the part where he says the ultimate goal is for the
guitar to play itself.
But that was also my hesitation in buying the game for my kid -
"Guitar Hero" and similar games, with only a few buttons on the neck
do nothing IMO to teach real guitar - although there are now a few new
ones that do; that's why we first bought our son a real guitar with
lessons from a bud of mine - 'then' the game we're holding for
Christmas. We're curious to see how it al works out. :-I
He doesn't post under his real name, but his screen 'nym is CyberPyrot.
He doesn't have any interest in the guitar, just modding game consoles - he
see this guitar as merely another console! ;>
Hugs,
CatNipped
I didn't even know Betsy and Katrina had crabs!
That explains the itching...
Yeah, that'll do it! <passing the bottle of "Rid">

CatNipped
