Although (as usual) I disagree with the constant hype that "this
season is the best talent EVER!), I thought that the right 12 people
were put through -- with exceptions. Madison and Beane were exactly
the two that I was hoping the judges would pick at the end.
Some of the singers strike me as bland/generic and sort of all meld
together. It's not a good sign at this point that I can't remember
either their name or what they sang.

I still can't believe that the kid who sings county with ZERO
personality who constantly fidgets on stage and usually wears a
baseball cap to hide his eyes was voted through when Alex, the
extremely likeable country singer didn't make the top 24. (The judges
had kept telling him to stop singing "classic" county songs -- and yet
they tell others to stick to what they do best. Go figure).

I definitely have my favorites now, but I have no doubts they won't
last long since Idol is pushing the youngest kids singing the generic
pop songs. And the producers will continue to wonder why the ratings
keep going down. Instead of screwing up the ratings by trying to get
the 18-24 years olds to watch -- which they never do -- the show would
do much better to pick songs that appeal to the older fans who have
been the backbone of the viewership. Idol is bleeding tons of the
long time viewers who still want to hear classic songs.

I was happy to see Beane picked as a wildcard and OK with Madison, although Alanis
appealed to me more considering her overall performances. But she was too similar to
Casey, so I can understand the producers wouldn't want both.

I didn't think Caleb would get voted in since he's so boring, but I guess there are
still country fans watching who will support anybody singing their music. Agree Alex
would have been much better. With any luck, Caleb will go home when 3 of the 12 are
voted out next Sunday.

I was sorry Wyatt Pike dropped out (or was dropped). He was one of my favorites.
There's a rumor that he wouldn't follow Covid restrictions. But aside from him, my
main favorites all made it. Agree it would be great to hear familiar songs with
recognizable melodies. When I listen to the random-sounding hack music most of them
sing now, I'm bewildered why the public settles for this crap instead of demanding
better quality.
