The original song is called "Wedding Bell Blues", was written by
Laura Nyro, and was a hit for The 5th Dimension in 1969 (15 weeks on
the chart, 3 of them at #1).
I don't remember whether that was the version that was used on the show,
though (wasn't paying that close attention).

Don't forget to play the cut of "One Less Bell to Answer" while you're
listening. Trust me on this.

Oh, my -- make me cry! That was one of those songs I'd listen to over and
over and over during my younger days. Thanks for reminding me <sob>! :-)

That was Vonda's voice.

However, I've always loved the "Fifth Dimension"--
I had a fourth grade teacher who used to play
their albums during Math Tests and Rainy Reccesses.
I owe my musical soul to Mrs. Kelly.

It's Marilyn McCoo from the group Fifth Dimension.

The song is actually called "Wedding Bell Blues" and it was originally recorded
by the Fifth Dimension. In a way, it was a love letter from the song's lead
singer, Marilyn McCoo, who did convince her "Bill" (Billy Davis, Jr., another
of the Dimension's singers) to marry her.
