I would like to request a moment of silence for our old TV. It was the
first color set we ever got (in 1977! We ran that old black-and-white
for years.) It was dying, so when a friend skilled in disassembling
old TVs was in town on New Year's Eve, I asked him over to do the
honors. Many's the program I watched on that old set--the last of the
real wood consoles!

My friend jokes that when kids ask him why it takes him so long to
disassemble an old TV, he says, "I had to get all the dead cowboys out
of it." With all the tapes of "Laramie" I've been watching, that would
certainly be true of my old set!

That was the set on which I watched all the reruns of "Emergency!" A
local channel ran one every weekday which I watched every day after
school religiously for a couple of years. "Emergency!" was on the air
when my friend's son was small, and he took him to an autograph signing
to meet Kevin Tighe. Chris was just brave enough to ask Kevin, "How
did you get out of the TV set?"
