Fiend torched girlfriend, 12
by Patrick Griffin
Sadist Aaron Nicholls torched his 12-year old girlfriend to death hours
after care workers let him watch an 18 rated film featuring a similar killing.
Nicholls, 18, led Lauren Carhart to waste land after a row and doused
her with barbecue fuel.
Then he flicked matches at her until she caught fire and watched her
die in agony. The night before he saw the Wesley Snipes film Sugar
Hill, in which mobsters pour petrol over a victim's head and burn him alive.
Nicholls told cops that the movie came back to him when he led Lauren
to her death in Crumpsall Manchester.
After the horror, council chiefs in Oldham launched an investigation
into why he was allowed to watch the film at his privately run care home.
The killer, who was found guilty of murder and jailed for life at Manchester
Crown Court, had a morbid fascination with fire.
He had once set a bus alight just to see the flames and had the password
"fire" on his mobile phone.
Social services chief Gwylfa Evans said yesterday "There was no way
this tragedy could have been predicted".

My two cents.......
Firstly what's an 18 year old doing with a 12 year old girl in the first place. This should have been actively discouraged right from the start. A 12 year-old girl is not legally old enough to continue a full relationship with an 18 year old. I'm sure any 18 year old, full of hormones would expect sexual contact of some sort.
Secondly social services quote:
What rot! Why the hell don't they check to see whether "their charge" has access or is actually carrying combustible material or fuel, especially as Nicholls had already been proved to have a fixation with fire and arson."There was no way this tragedy could have been predicted".
This could have been avoided, but there needs to be a greater vigilance by the social working team.
