Kentucky Census Worker Committed Suicide, Investigators Say

FRANKFORT, Ky. A Kentucky census worker found naked, bound with duct
tape and hanging from a tree with "fed" scrawled on his chest killed
himself but staged his death to make it look like a homicide,
authorities said Tuesday.
Bill Sparkman, 51, was found Sept. 12 with a rope around his neck near a
cemetery in a heavily wooded area of the Daniel Boone National Forest in
southeastern Kentucky. Authorities said his wrists were loosely bound,
his glasses were taped to his head and he was gagged.
Kentucky State Police Capt. Lisa Rudzinski said an analysis found that
"fed" was written "from the bottom up." He was touching the ground, and
to survive "all Mr. Sparkman had to do at any time was stand up," she said.
"Our investigation, based on evidence and witness testimony, has
concluded that Mr. Sparkman died during an intentional, self-inflicted
act that was staged to appear as a homicide," Rudzinski said.
Authorities said Sparkman alone manipulated the suicide scene. Rudzinski
said he "told a credible witness that he planned to commit suicide and
provided details on how and when."
Authorities wouldn't say who Sparkman told of his plan, but said
Sparkman talked about it a week before his suicide and the person did
not take him seriously.
Sparkman had recently taken out two accidental life insurance policies
totaling $600,000 that would not pay out for suicide, authorities said.
If Sparkman had been killed on the job, his family also would have been
be eligible for up to $10,000 in death gratuity payments from the
government.
Sparkman's son, Josh, previously told The Associated Press that his
father had named him as his life insurance beneficiary. Josh Sparkman
said earlier this month he found paperwork for the private life
insurance policy among his father's personal files but wasn't sure of
the amount.
Wow.
Waht an odd case. I did not ahve this one pegged at all.
I'm guessing that, since it's called suicide, the son will not get the
insurance. What a shame for him.
I'm not sure whay he would make such a fuss "murdering" himself, when
he could have "evidently fallen asleep on the interstate and hit a
concrete abutment at full speed," or some such thing. They are going
to investigate the "murder" of a federal employee pretty carefully.
Maybe there are financial benefits for the survivor?
Speculation: The guy making moonshine and growing pot up in the
hollow near there is plenty relieved.

I remember reading a story a long time ago about a Bay Area couple
that had a fight
during dinner at a restaurant. The woman left by herself, I'm not
sure if they took two cars, and while driving home drove straight into
a big tree that divided the road. It was believed to be a suicide
because there were no skid marks and she would have known about the
tree since it was near her home. That one has always stayed in my
mind.
Another one was a murder/suicide. The couple were newly separated,
husband came to pick up child. Made mother get into the car, child
not with her. Then got the car going really fast and ran into a
concrete wall that separated the residential area from the highway,
killing the two of them.
This one reminds me of another case, where it was believed a Maryland
federal attorney committed suicide by poking himself all over with a
pen knife. His body was found in a creek in Pennyslvania.
And then there's the case of the French citizen where he was knived to
death and the San Francisco authorities ruled in suicide. I think,
though, since the French came over to investigate, that one has been
changed to homocide.
I wonder why this KY guy made his suicide so complicated. Who was the
credible witness?

That was such a weird one, where he drove all over the place first. He had
money difficulties he hadn't told anyone about. A wife and 2 little ones
IIRC, and also took care of his parents. So hard to believe he killed
himself, such an odd means. But I think he did.

It doesn't seem like six years, since we were mulling
this one over.

Or how 'bout this one?

Hang on. A homocide?
Oh, you could so easily have let that one slip by... ;-)
Stop!
;) yer ownself.
I wonder how often insurance companies pay out for those single car
accidental deaths right after policies have been taken out? He might
have heard something, and decided to try his hand at another route.

Yeah, most likely a leftist puke trying to make the rural Ky white
people guilty. No surprise he decided to be a thief and liar even
at death.
I have seen no evidence at all that he was a leftist.
Are you somehow thinking of the republican puke (the two go together
so well) that carved the mirror image "B" on her forehead and said an
Obama supporter did it? Why would you think anyone one the left
would do that Republican kind of trick?

Hey Mick. I usually love and read all your informative posts. But when you
post political insults like that you are insulting me and a few others on
here that try to keep politics off for that very reason.

Right. Sorry for the imfalamatory language.
I was referring was an event that did happen in my neighborhood, but
no need to tar all Republicans.
My belief is that if it was an Obama supporter that did that (there
are wack jobs everywhere), though, we would still be hearing of it
every day.
Mainly though, it was silly of me to reply to the guy at all.

I understand and still luf ya.
And you are right that that person with the "B" on her forhead was a puke.

I detest the GOP as much as the Demokrats, so your jab went
nowhere. Ron Paul politics is the only hope.
