Next time they tell you that you're nuts, tell them
you're not.
Yes, there was such a TV movie and it WAS based on a
true kidnapping case. Not a buried coffin, though.
The daughter of a wealthy man was kidnapped, put in
a large box (with a light and some food) which was then
covered with dirt. She was left there while the perp
waited for the ransom money.
I believe this took place in
Florida. She WAS found alive and rescued.
I can't remember the name(s) involved nor the name of
the TV movie (which I didn't watch.) Probably something
like "Girl In A Box" knowing how they name TV movies. ;)

I remember that movie and it was based on fact I think. I will check
and see if I can find out anything about it. I'm pretty sure that it
was a fact-based movie and they got her out just in time.

GAAAHHH! This movie TRAUMATIZED me when I was a little kid. I believe
it was called _The Screaming Woman_, and I think Olivia de Havilland
might have been in it. As I recall, Olivia played someone recently
released from a mental institution. She suspected that the girl was
buried (heard her scrabbling around inside the underground coffin,
maybe?) and tried to tell the 'thorities about her find . . . but
because she'd just been in the nuthouse, nobody would believe her.
brrrr. I get the willies just thinking about it. I think I had to sleep
with my parents for *days* after that one. ;)
It was a true crime. I don't remember the details but she was the daughter of a
big newspaper guy (The Miami Herald) I think. They kidnapped her from their
mansion on Star Island, an exclusive area of Miami. I read the book many years
ago and do remember that the movie was very close to the truth of the case.
Hope this helps a little.

Yes, I remember that one-I think it was called something like "48 Hours
to Dawn", the story of Barbara Jane Mackle (daughter of the owner of
the ( Florida) Mackle Brothers land development firrm). Barbara Jane was
a student over at our Emory University here in Atlanta;her parents came
to Georgia to visit her and she was kidnapped from a motel (can't
remember the name) over on North Druid Hills Road. Gary Steven Krist was
eventually paroled and went to live in Alaska and worked as a boat
captain (?);Ruth Eismann Schier (last name sp?) served her setence and
was deported to her native country(was it Hondouras or the Dominican
Republic??). The crime happened in 1968--4 years before I came to
Georgia to visit for 6 weeks in 1972.

Don't know about the movie but, isn't this header redundant?

I too remember the movie. The elderly woman was on in a horse buggy
or something and she hears moaning coming from the ground. She trys to
get her son (?) or someone to help her did up the ground. In fact she
does it herself and as a child I remember the buried woman grabing the
arm of the old woman and the old woman is screaming. She basically
pulls her up out of dirt. I believe it was a movie-made-for-TV.

colleen, I think that a diferent movie was being discussed but I
remember this one that you are talking about as well. It also scared
me. It was a fiction however, and it was about a man that buried his
wife alive in the yard and she was there screaming for help and
moaning and this woman that had just gotten out of the nuthouse was
the only person that ever heard her. Of course no one would believe
her and they didn't get around to digging the poor woman up until she
was practically dead. It was a scarey movie then but now-a-days I
would probably enjoy it immensely for it's drawn out suspense and
surprisingly happy ending.
