Michael Noll
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - The body of a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
student missing since November was found in a lake Tuesday night, the student's
father said.
Someone spotted the body of 22-year-old Michael Noll through thin ice on Half
Moon Lake on the city's west side around 6 p.m., police said.
Police pulled the body from the lake about 90 minutes later and called Noll's
family in Rochester, Minn.
"We've gotten some bad news," said Noll's father, Jeff. "We know it's Mike."
Noll said officers found his son's wallet on the body, and the clothes also
matched the description of what Noll was last seen wearing. Noll disappeared
late Nov. 6 after leaving a bar near UW-Eau Claire where he and some friends
had celebrated his birthday.
"It's a parent's nightmare," Noll said. "But now we have closure. Now we know
what we're dealing with. It's not a case of wonderment anymore."
Police planned to take the body to the Ramsey County, Minn., medical examiner's
office for an autopsy Wednesday.
Noll was one of four college-age adults in Minnesota and Wisconsin to disappear
last fall. Investigators say the disappearances are not related.

I assume it's an accident - this kind of things happens with a certain amt
of regularity from what we seen on this board. I hope it was an accident,
not murder and not suicide. It's so sad for his family, but glad his body
was found at least. (Also assuming the lake is nearby?)

The "left a party" thing kind of makes me think so too - drunk people drown
easily.
No, actually, it's about the seventeenth or eighteenth. Another body
was recovered from Lake Michigan on the 24th, but they have not
released the ID yet. I had posted this on another thread, but I'll
post it here, too:
I've been following these cases for a while. There are actually a
good number of young men who share the following characteristics:
Caucasian male between the ages of 18-27
Lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana or Chicago (basically
the extended area surrounding Lake Michigan from Minneapolis, MN to
Lansing, MI)
All but one were students or had recently graduated
Most were high-achieving
Most were in good physical condition or athletes
Last seen out drinking with friends or at a party
Were under the influence of alcohol
Became separated from friends they started the evening with
All disappeared between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Were reported missing by friends or family
All but two were found in the Mississippi River, Red Cedar River or
Lake Michigan
The closed cases were all determined to be accidental drowning or
possible suicide.
All disappeared between the months of September and April.

As a lifetime East Lansing-area resident, I can assure you that there
was no foul play in these. The Red Cedar River winds through campus,
and there are miles of paths running along side it. There are no
barricades - very beautiful, but very dangerous. It is a miracle
there haven't been more accidental drownings there.
I would NEVER have guessed that there was no foul play with four young men,
found dead in the same body of water without your reassurance. Are the
students swimming? How do they drown?
Maybe they should think of putting up some barricades then?

There are at least nineteen young men who go out to a bar or party
with friends, some time during the night the friends discover they are
gone, they are reported missing and a couple months later, they show
up drowned in a nearby body of water.
Now it could all be a big bad coincidence because there are many
bodies of water around. But that doesn't explain why three to six
deaths happen in a cluster over a couple years and then don't happen
again. That doesn't explain why the victims are all attractive
caucasion high-achieving college boys who were NOT swimming or doing
any water activity. Nor does it explain why all the disappearances
occur between Sept and April and from 10pm to 4am. Nor does it
explain why the "clusters" move from town to town and don't seem to
recur in prior towns.
Hey, it could be a series of unrelated drownings by drunk white boys.
Or not.
