NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- A man was indicted Wednesday on a capital murder charge
in the death of a 12-year-old girl whose body parts were found on a remote
island.
A grand jury also indicted John Hefelfinger, 36, on charges of rape,
breaking and entering and abduction with intent to defile, said Philip G.
Evans II, a deputy commonwealth's attorney.
Capital murder carries a sentence of life in prison without parole or death.
Evans declined to say whether prosecutors would seek the death penalty. A
trial date was not set.
Hefelfinger was arrested Aug. 25 in the death of Shanna M. McIntyre. Parts
of her body were found Aug. 20 on Knotts Island in Virginia Beach, nine days
after she was reported missing from her Norfolk home. Hefelfinger was a
friend of the girl's family.
The medical examiner listed the cause of death as "undetermined homicidal
violence'' and said the girl was dismembered and decapitated. Police found
her head, legs and arms.

What is "intent to defile"? Would that be so they could charge him with
first degree murder instead of his attorney saying that he didn't mean to
kill her or something? Or is that just saying "abduction with intent to
rape" her?

*****I don't exactly know. At first glance my guess would be "abduction
with intent to rape". *Slim
It seems that the phrasing is "kidnapping with intent to ___________"
(intent=intention)
It could be kidnapping with intent _to murder_.
The _defile_ part refers to dishonoring by physical acts.
If someone can explain it better, please do.

What I meant--please explain it more clearly if you can because this is
the best I can do.
Thanks,

I am sure he was just taking her out for hamburgers when things got a little
out of hand.
