JonBenet Ramsey case: The SBTC?

The Rocky Mountain News this morning (1/23) reported that the "ransom
note" found in the Ramsey home contained the acronym SBTC, which possibly
stands for Subic Bay Training Center, a base in the Philippines where
John Ramsey once served.

Furthermore, four misspellings in the note appear to be deliberate. The
note contained the word "possession" misspelled, while more difficult
words to spell, such as attache, were correctly spelled.

Curiouser and curiouser. Anyone care to speculate what a 30-year-old
reference to John Ramsey's prior Navy career was doing in a ransom note
regarding his daughter?

You know, the more I hear about this "ransom" note, the more it just
sounds like a desperate cry for help. Could it possibly be filled with
more arcane John Ramsey trivia? I'm wondering if the writer of the note
didn't take a thump on the head with the golf club, too. -- Betsy

How's that fantasy life treating you, Chris? Good? I hope so. I bet

Hmmmm...without a *SHRED* of evidence, it's Perfectly OK to say things
such as:

Patsy Ramsey was a raging, psychotic *bitch* with Munchaussen-by-Proxy;
John Ramsey had been molesting her for *years* and finally made a Mistake
(but is such an idiot that he knows *nothing* about DNA testing);
Little Boy Burke/Big Bro was insanely jealous of JonBebet and whacked her;
They threw her down the stairs/hit her over the head with a golf club;
There's Absolutely No Way it could have been an "outsider".
~~ ~~~
But one needs "evidence" to say, "BTW, the Ramseys didn't kill JonBebet"???
The saddest part is that I'm seeing this from people attending *law* school!

No, wait...I take that back. The Saddest Part is that I know (from personal

Nobody has said that on this newsgroup. Maybe people have
alluded to it, suggested it, or thought it, but the last time I checked,
these things are not illegal.

> But one needs "evidence" to say, "BTW, the Ramseys didn't kill JonBebet"???

When I see one piece of exculpatory evidence that tends to NOT
implicate John or Patsy Ramsey, I'll talk about it. Until then, I'll
stand by my theory. As for people attending *law* school, the Usenet is
not a courtroom. Do not for a minute think that it is. Courtrooms use
the Rules of Evidence. The Usenet does not. To compare Usenet to a
courtroom and say that the same rules apply is to compare apples to
oranges.

I'm glad you have more evidence to back that up.

Reality's Bitch,

What a pretentious and condescending pair of statements. I dare say a few
people here or anywhere would have quite willingly stepped in to help had
they known JB and had known of abuse. And I, for one, am saying some of
the things you list and am, also, working to help abused children and adult
survivors of abuse in my neighborhood.

Reality may be a bitch for you but, for many of us, it is something we have

I was in the Navy between 1965 and 1969 and did a couple of WesPac tours

ports was Subic Bay. As I recall it, it was not a training center so much

of the base housing a formerly named Training Center, however.

OK, I bite. Here's my rank amateur speculation: The image-conscious John
Ramsey, having committed the murder, composes a rambling 3-page fake ransom
note intended to confuse authorities with phoney references to international
terrorists, business intrigue, etc. For good measure, he throws in a
reference to his long-forgotten naval career hoping to generate sympathy for
himself as a military man (just in case the tabloids didn't bother to check
back that far).

Another reason would be to send the police on a wild goose chase, since his
military career dates back so far. Just to make it really impossible for
the police to get any leads.

Naval Training Center Subic Bay perhaps but all of the NTCs are/were

Before passing judgement on the Rocky Mountain News' spin

Where was the Brinkley Bass (Doug's ship) during July of '68?
Did our paths cross in Subic too? Oh, Doug, if you are interested

But it never ceases to Amaze me how much *Hatred* is displayed towards women
at the slightest provocation. The absolute *glee* with which Patsy is being
raked across the coals (even though said rakers believe *John* was both the
molester and the murderer) is what Bothers me.

Men murder their children every day...they'll *never* be treated as "we" did
susan smith. Then again, we live in a society where, if an abuser kills his
wife/girlfriend, he'll do 18 months to 4 years. But if the abUSED kills her
aBUSER (even in "immediate" self-defense), she'll do *LIFE*!

>> John Ramsey had been molesting her for *years* and finally made a Mistake

And, DEFinitely not this.

>> But one needs "evidence" to say, "BTW, the Ramseys didn't kill JonBenet"???

Haven't found any Evidence that the Ramsey's are Innocent, either. HowEVER!

1. Does the fact that they hired attorneys (and, sorry, but one for each
would be considered Standard Practice) make them Guilty? No. It might mean
they wanted to make sure they were "prepared" as the body was found in their
home, and police and society are often Perfectly Happy merely beLIEVing the
"guilty party(ies)" has(have) been caught...as long as SOMEone is "paying",
we *rarely* care whether or not the case was actually solved.

2. Patsy was fully dressed at 5:30am, and *this* makes her either Murderer
or Accomplice??? Wait'll my *Mother* hears this!!! I hope I get a chance
to tell her before she's arrested for...for...for being Anal Retentive?

3. They hired a publicist, which points to their Guilt. How about, John
Ramsey is the CEO of a billion-dollar company w/ connections to the pentagon.
He *had* to have known there'd be more calls than his voicemail could handle.
And one wrong move could cost them *business*!!! Do *I* think this should
be The Most Important Consideration? NO! But I'm sure his employees might
be grateful that he didn't let the entire company go under while dealing
with the death of his daughter...

4. They haven't gone in for a formal interview (never mind that they spoke
with the police on Day 1 and gave samples for DNA testing), and *this* is a
Sure Sign of Guilt. What if they thought, "FUCK you! We've already told
you everything we know. Why aren't you out looking for the *real* Killer???
Forget it. We'll hire investigators and find him, ourSELVES!" Who can say
whether or not they've also hired a "hit-man"...

5. JonBenet was Abused simply by being coerced into the pageants. One look
at her eyes would tell *ANYone* this girl was *not* a Happy Camper...but the
pageants are *hardly* a "new phenomenon". And I would *LOVE* to see those
who are so Outraged actually walk up to parents they *KNOW* and talk about
their Abuse of kids in little league/pop warner/gymnastics/etc!!! But I
know that you *won't*!
~~~~~
Should we have a case wherein a *father* pushed his son to be aggressive and
violent in order to "succeed" at *football*, and the kid turned out to be a
Bully who murdered another child, we would *NEVER* see the outpouring of
Hatred towards *him* that I am seeing towards Patsy.
And superbowl sunday is the day more women are murdered (or wind up in the
emergency room) than at any other time. Hell, monday night football fills
the wards. But I doubt that *any* of you will get off your asses and try
to end *this* Travesty... ~~~
6. *If* John/Patsy wrote the ransom note, *why* would they use the 118k
figure??? The guy's probably worth *millions*!!! I'd have asked for at
*least* a million...no wait, I'd have asked for *ten* mil, which would've
given me an "excuse" to liquefy assets (preparing to pay the ransom), then
taken the cash, jumped in my learjet, and headed for a country with no
extradition. I wouldn't be hanging around and waiting for the DNA results
to come in...
I could go On and On (or have I, already?)...but I think I've made my point.
The DNA results should be in, soon. And I'm not so filled with Anger, in
general, that I need Patsy Ramsey as a whipping post.
The thing that Bothers me the *MOST* is that, should it turn out to be the
"Santa" who'd decided he needed a vacation in Spain (say *what*???), those
who so *Viciously* concocted their "intelligent theories" will do little
in the way of Introspection...
>> The saddest part is that I'm seeing this from people attending *law*
>> school!
Now, there's *plenty* of evidence to support *this*...
And this as well...
I took the nom dp "Reality's Bitch" because, no matter where I run, "he"
(Reality) finds me and drags me "home". "Denial" won't give me the time
of day...
I *have* confronted family members, employers, "friends", co-workers,
neighbors, and *strangers* when it was necessary to take a Stand about
these and other Issues (domestic violence, sexism, racism, or just the
oh-so-prevalent assholism).
Because I was *born* Knowing, with every fibre of my Being, that "all that
is necessary for Evil to flourish is for the good to do Nothing." But I
had to *learn* that this planet is filled-to-overflowing with those who
need to kill the Messenger in the end.
Speaking Out, though it saves lives, will Cost you, *Big* Time...try it and
See. It's *easy* to sit at a computer and puke bile through the keyboard...
Dear Mr. or Ms. R. Bitch, Ma'am:
I have to agree that Patsy is getting horrendous treatment on this ng
and elsewhere by folks who don't have a shred of evidence that she's
done anything at all. As a matter of fact she most likely adored that
child and what we think of pageants and the like doesn't mean piffle.
HOWEVER, a statement was attributed to her on, I think AJ Friday night.
Quoted by a neighbor, friend, "source close to..." or whatever I don't
know and certainly I don't know if it's even true BUT what Patsy
supposedly said was that she wished that her cancer would come back so
she could be with JonBenet.
If she did say this it sure doesn't seem like she cares one whole hell
of a lot for that little boy of hers now does it, nor her husband for
that matter and frankly this is the attitude she projects.
Sorry you feel that way, Diane.
I don't doubt *that*, at all...I merely doubt these are the same people who
have provided us with the proFOUNDly disturbed (and disTURbing), emotional,
and hate-filled diatribes against Patsy Ramsey. There's a *big* Difference
between, "I think there's a good possibility it might have been the father,
and that the mother knows", and a lengthy and involved Fantasy designed to
shred *her* to pieces WHEN THERE HAS BEEN NO EVIDENCE RELEASED.
~~~
Unfortunately, the world is *rife* with people who just need to hate SOME-
one. Patsy is handy (susan smith is "old"...can't quite muster the energy,
anymore...need new blood) and a *lot* of these posters are breathing huge
sighs of relief that this came along in time to fill the void *sure* to be
created by the end of the oj civil trial...

I *DO* doubt that the number of those who'd be willing to take action is
as great as the posters in this newsgroup would have us believe, however.
It's *one* thing to *SAY* what one would do, "if..." But it is *quite*
another to be standing on the front porch, taking a deep breath, ringing
the doorbell, and praying the "right one" will answer...
~~~~~~~
And *please* don't say, "all you have to do is call (some version of) Child
Welfare." Unfortunately, Fine Upstanding Members of the Community require a
*lot* more work...and I see just as many at the country club as I do in the
trailer park.
> And I, for one, am saying some of the things you list and am, also,
> working to help abused children and adult survivors of abuse in my
> neighborhood.
And *I*, for one, don't recall seeing you describe Patsy as a cold-hearted
*bitch*! Or did I miss something? Thank *God* you're doing what you can to
change things, but, you're "in the business"...have you *really* not noticed
how many would rather step back and avoid the "hassle"??? Yet, *they're*
the ones who usually scream the loudest, and are the *most* self-righteous
(and hostile), *after* the fact. ~~~~
If you want to believe no one knew about beauty pageants for little girls
before the death of JonBenet, that's your perogative. But if you want to
believe that those who so viciously attack Patsy for her stage motherism
will, from this day forth, talk to parents they *know* about pageants and
sports (etc), you're going to be Sorely Disappointed...and soon.
Do you know parents who Push their kids, similarly? And, do you *desPISE*
them??? Compassion, reason, and gentle persuasion might do a *whole* lot
more for the planet...
> Reality may be a bitch for you but, for many of us, it is something we
> have learned to live with.
It's not Reality's *a* Bitch, Diane. It's Reality's Bitch, as in "a girl-
friend he claims to love, but for whom he doesn't provide much in the way of
Pleasantries, yet the neanderthal won't let her go" kinda thing... ;-)
Every time I turn around, there's an Opportunity to step in. I can *take*
it, or I can pretend nothing's happening and I have my own life to live and
I can't help EVERYbody and what's in it for *me* and look what happened the
*last* time and who helped *me* when I needed it and I'm sure someone else
is already doing something and I've got *work* to do, etc, ad nauseam.
If people really want to change the world, there's *plenty* to do. But this
kind of Anger and Hatred solves nothing, adds nothing, and *is* nothing but
another roadblock in *all* of our paths.
[ An aside: to those of you who may interpret my use of **s and ~~s as
"*screaming*", it is not intended as such. IRL, I have a very soft and low
voice, but an "animated" way of speaking, and I "mark" my posts as I would
I agree with you here.
However, this is flat out wrong. I point to the John and Paula Ziles case
in Florida for an example. What drew the anger of the public at Susan
Smith was her going on TV and playing the "victim of a car-jacking" which
was exposed as the horrendous lie that it was. Paula Zile did a similar
thing by staging a phony abduction from a south Florida flea market. They
[snipped things about Ramsey case with which I agree with you]
: >> But one needs "evidence" to say, "BTW, the Ramseys didn't kill JonBenet"???
I agree here. Being an early riser who does not want to wander about
: 3. They hired a publicist, which points to their Guilt. How about, John
: Ramsey is the CEO of a billion-dollar company w/ connections to the pentagon.
: Forget it. We'll hire investigators and find him, ourSELVES!" Who can say
: whether or not they've also hired a "hit-man"...
Actually, the police typically spend more than 8 hours with the parents of
abducted or murdered children because it takes time to find out things
that could be helpful to to the investigation but that the parents do not
consider important. It's possible they took that stance at one point but I
cannot believe that they are being advised by their attorneys to continue
with that stance.
: 5. JonBenet was Abused simply by being coerced into the pageants. One look
There is a definite double standard involved here but fathers are often
: to come in...
There are several questions involved in the few details about the ransom
note that don't fit. Why would *any* kidnapper ask for such an odd amount?
Why would a kidnapper have several intimate details of John Ramsey's
company and personal life if the kidnapper wasn't really interested in the
ransom but just wanted to murder the little girl? Why murder the little
girl if he was angry at John Ramsey and his company? Why leave a ransom
: I could go On and On (or have I, already?)...but I think I've made my point.
: The DNA results should be in, soon. And I'm not so filled with Anger, in
I agree that neither parent (nor any other family member) should be used
as a "whipping post" at this point and I would say that any suspect
I am presently living in the Palm Beaches. Sorry, but paula is already
Here, however, they managed to find a *plethora* who stated: Even if john
ziles gets off (he claims she died from a seizure, and paula is in prison
SO! If "all goes well", john ziles could be acquitted of murder, yet paula
"Painted with guilt" isn't quite the same as "feeding frenzy"...and the
Every post that I have made that cites evidence taken from either
Hee-hee-hee, a boulder on my shoulder. That's funny. And
especially in light of the origins of our Murder Mystery.
CB's comments, in light of the evidence that I cited in my
earlier post, not only contradicted the evidence that is undisputed as
fact by both the Boulder Police and the Ramseys, but his comments implied
that I had not checked my facts or their sourse, without any offering
evidence of his own to contradict mine. Turnabout is fair play. As for
the name of this newsgroup, it is neither alt.Fool.gets.on.a.soapbox.
I do recognize that people have different opinions than mine, and
I respect them, when they are backed up with factual evidence. MANY
people in the ng have posted theories that differ from mine and have
included vast amounts of evidence. Since you're on a roll tonight when
it comes to keeping everyone civil and asking them to keep their comments
to themselves, why don't you ask a few more posters to this group to do
the same. Thanks.
RB,
I agree with you 100%. Tanya tends to accuse many others of being condescending
and not backing up our facts. But I've yet to see her offer any real validation
for her information, while at the same time making outrageous accusations and
theories about a family that is grieving for the loss of their child and may
well be innocent, and nasty, uncalled for slams at other posters.
It's one thing to say 'based on the information released, this is my opinion of
this case' and quite another to say 'When you demonstrate that you know what you
are talking about by using evidence to back up your claims, we will all start to
believe you', especially when you don't do that yourself.
Joni,
FWIW, on LKL, the spokesperson for either People Mag, or
Newsweek, or one of the magazines said they like to have 2
independent sources for the report of whether it is semen.
They said on this bit of evidence, they only had one source.
However the other person on LKL admitted that it was being
worked up as though it =was= semen, whatever that means, so
IMO, it's still up for grabs. This was late Thurs evening.
