Elgin police officer resigns following his own arrest
By Tom O'Konowitz Daily Herald Staff Writer
Posted on December 31, 2002
An Elgin police officer has lost his job after being arrested and
charged with beating a man in a barroom brawl earlier this month,
authorities said.

Ivan Palomares, who joined the Elgin Police Department last year,
resigned his position Dec. 20, according to Elgin Police Chief William
Miller. The move came just one day after Palomares, 23, was accused of
starting a fight at the Studio 63 bar on West 63rd Street in south
suburban Summit.

In that case, Palomares, of west suburban Maywood, was charged with
battery and disorderly conduct, Cook County court records showed.
According to one of the bar's owners, Palomares and two friends
attacked a man in the bar's restroom about 2 a.m. Dec. 19.

The bar owner said an employee saw Palomares and the others punching
and kicking the man, who lie bleeding on the restroom floor. One of
the men then bashed the victim in the face with a beer bottle, causing
a deep gash near his cheekbone, the bar owner said.

The man, who was at the night spot for his company's holiday party,
was rushed to the hospital by paramedics and received stitches to his
face.

The misdemeanor charges against Palomares confirmed the claims he
started the fight, kicking and punching the man, according to reports.
Summit police could not be reached to comment on what may have
provoked the fight.

Miller declined to say whether Palomares was asked to resign as an
Elgin officer, but he did say police supervisors had been in "talks"
with him before he quit.

And his arrest and resignation-under-pressure this month did not mark
the first time the Elgin officer found himself in trouble.

A few months before the Summit fight, Palomares served a 10-day
suspension without pay for his off-duty involvement in another
nightclub fight that ended with his friend shooting another man. No
criminal charges were filed against Palomares in that case, but Stone
Park authorities confirmed Palomares was injured in the fight and
witnessed the shooting that left a man injured.

Miller declined to say if Palomares remained on probation following
his suspension, but police confirmed the disciplinary action had been
recorded in his personnel file.

Cook County court records also showed Palomares was arrested in 1997
on a disorderly conduct charge. Reports show Palomares pleaded guilty
to disorderly conduct for refusing a Maywood police officer's order to
disperse. The then 18-year-old was sentenced to six months
supervision, according to court records.

Palomares could not be reached to comment on Monday. He remains free
on bond and is awaiting a court hearing at 9 a.m. Jan. 21 at the
Bridgeview courthouse.

• Daily Herald staff writer Shamus Toomey contributed to this report.

Why is he any different than any other person charged with a
crime.......they make bail and remain free for trial.
So you are saying that all people shouldn't be treated equal?

They aren't. Cops get special treatment.

Yes. I do it to all who annoy me.

Sure. If he can be a totally offensive idiot worthy of only the killfile,
most people will just set their filters to remove "Jafo" which will mean
that everyone offended by a Forging Imbecile will be unable to read your
Words of Enlightenment.

Classic Forger/Stalker ploy.

If you don't want responses to the posts that you choose to make in a
public forum, and to the opinions expressed therein, then you probably
shouldn't have made them in the first place. If one must pay a form
of blackmail in order to get you to post in an ethical manner under
some nickname/identity recognizably your own, then the price is too
high. You will not be allowed to set the standards for Usenet.

Oink!

I have violated nothing.

You are a moron.

You want to dictate to roadrunner what usernames they can have because
they conflict with cheetah.net.

What a buffoon.

You know I don't care who replies to ongoing discussions, but you only
seek to disrupt, antagonize, discredit and annoy people.

Without a clue to who you are talking to.

You are in for a very big surprise.

It would behoove you to learn what you're talking about before,
rather than after, you express an opinion. I'm dictating nothing
to roadrunner and it has nothing to do with any username at
cheetah.net or anyplace else. This has nothing to do with
usernames, which are what comes before the "@" symbol and
the domain in an email address, but rather with the identity
of the author as expressed by a real- or nickname.

>You know I don't care who replies to ongoing discussions,

Oh, you care very much indeed, or you wouldn't have adopted this
technique.

A statement that drips with irony, coming as it does from someone
who is clearly attempting to do that very thing.

Oh?

I do not, and have never, sent unsolicited or harassing email to
someone with whom I've disagreed in a Usenet newsgroup. I've often
criticized those who do this, and have always clearly stated that
public discussions belong in the public forum in which they
originated. I don't play those games and if you're getting
mailbombed it's from somebody else. If that individual is reading
this I would urge him or her to stop sending such emails and to
either "share with the class" or STFU.

The headers indicated it wasn't a forgery.

> But that's what you're still endorsing: forgery.

No. A forgery would have appeared to actually come from you, supported by
munged headers which also appeared to have originated with a post by you.

What you got was someone falsely attributing to you, with no forgery
involved, a paraphrase lampooning you severely. And clearly, you've never
gotten over it.

> The difference
> is, you liked the way it was done.

No, it simply wasn't a by-definition forgery. Try giving us cites -- you
should have no difficulties doing that since obviously it's branded into
what passes for your mind -- and I will be happy to show that it's just your
obsession, rather than any actual transgression.

> It's just as useless an FUI defense that

Actually, "Let's Roll" and I have been eternally "on the outs" since she
like many others seems to be obsessed with Mexicans above all others, and
until recently was pushing the theme of violent revolution against the US
government, in direct proportion to the amount of saber-rattling by said
government against Iraq.

The problem here is that direct physical violence isn't "rule-bending",
especially when it's permanently disabling.

Or maybe you'd care to align yourself with people who are "all about the
rules" which, IIRC, include female genital mutilation "because it's always
been our tradition". You know, same as "sneaking across the US border has
always been our tradition". Different people, different traditions, but I'm
all about bending the rules, you know, to tell people with such traditions
to just fsck right off.

If you'd rather I supported people who are all about traditions and rules, I
guess I could support that, vomitous though it would make me.

Feeling like one of your rare descents into honesty, yet?

>
> Rule benders can't all be chalky white night-stalking goths like you.

I bent my own rules. I'm a deeply tanned skin-cancer-inviting
only-comes-out-by-day Obvious Suburban Redneck these days. Sure, I like
"black tape for a blue girl" but so what. Sisters of Mercy rules even if
Andrew Eldritch is a fsckwad. However, me using "dark colors Woolite(tm)"
isn't a transgression of the Law of Nations; sneaking across the border is.

No. You have yet to prove forgery. All I am doing is saying that you have
yet to successfully prosecute that case. Thus: you attempt to base your
ultimate case on something as-yet-undemonstrated, hence, you are a wanking
boob, unfortunately not rare in the world, blathering about injustice when
you have yet to prove anything other than that you excel at blathering about
your victimizations by the unprovable.

It's not froggery unless munged headers are involved and you and I and
everyone else knows it.

At best you could call it "lampoonish misattribution of paraphrase in a
manner convincing only to illiterates".

You appear to be another victim of reading too many "googlings" too fast and
never being able to properly associate facts or timeline.

They already did that. They've decided to have local network news stations
declare because of my former gothness that "he thinks he's dracula",
inciting the local victims of mass-psychosis to riot. They will lose their
FCC licenses over this if they don't lose the announcers. I'm not laughing,
I think it's really sad sad sad that there are insane people who think it's
their duty to judge the sane insane, and not just assault them, but assault
them with techniques devised specifically to evade detection by the police,
indicating that they're not merely insane, but insane with a criminal
mindset. It's even more sad that elements of local media are in such states
of grandiosity that they think they cannot be replace for inciting riot
against immigration-reform activists.

But to summarize, no, I'm not laughing off a $DEITYdamned thing.

You on the other hand, should duck your head in a bucket until some sense of
perspective returns to you.

Okay, muchacho. Do we have to kiss and make up now? Unless we're both very
cute, I advise against it. Being of the same species would be an added
incentive, though I rather doubt it.

Can you guess why you always hear laughter behind your back?

Ya know what is funny? The clewless ones who don't understand the
significant difference between a forgery and a frogery are the very folks
that make frogery an attractive trolling tool. And the more they react,
the more they ensure more of the stuff that has their Depends in a knot.

If they learned to ignore it, it wouldn't have any power...

Ain't Usenet a blast? :)
