Sherry--I've already posted this to a separate thread, but it was easy
to miss. Here are some excerpts from a _Fresno Bee_ article on the
murders. (If you're interested, I'd be glad to send you some other,
related materials I've found with the help of Lexis/Nexis. Since the
woman in question was 38 years old and the daughter in question was 2
years old, this would seem to be an entirely different crime from the
Sund/Pelosso murders. But, of course, who can say for sure? As of
this moment, both crimes remain unsolved)
Slayings of mother, child in their North Fork home still mystery
BYLINE: Charles Mccarthy, The Fresno Bee
DATELINE: NORTH FORK, April 10, 1995
A year after Ken Keller returned from work to his home among the pine
and oak trees and called 911 to report finding his wife and daughter
fatally shot, his recorded plea for information remains on a
still-active hot line.
Madera County Sheriff's deputies said last week that the April 11,
1994 killings of Keller's wife, Kimberly, 38, and their 2-year-old
daughter Katherine Elizabeth, remain under investigation.
"Everybody is a suspect until they're cleared," said sheriff's Sgt.
Tommy Tomlinson last week. "At this point in time, we don't feel we
have enough evidence to make an arrest and bring anybody to court on a
charge of murder."
[snip]
Officials said they are doing what they can.
"There are leads that are still being followed," Tomlinson said.
At the time of the murders, the Keller family lived alone in the home,
on Pine Tree Lane in a quiet rural neighborhood called Leisure Acres.
Ken Keller was at work as a Madera County employee. A 17-year-old
stepson had moved out a few weeks before the killings, sheriff's
investigators said.
After Keller called 911 about 6 p.m., a paramedic team from North Fork
went to the home and found Kim Keller dead and the child critically
wounded. Both had been shot, officials said.
The child later died at Valley Medical Center in Fresno.
Even with the passing of time, police have revealed little about the
slayings. Investigators haven't named either suspects or witnesses, if
any.
Bradford said last week that Madera County investigators had given the
17-year-old stepson a lie detector test, and that he had been ruled
out as a suspect and was now in Georgia.

The hot line number is 683-1327.

Well, I've already posted parts of one story on the Keller case; I
might as well take the plunge and post parts of one or two additional
stories of relevance.
These excerpts are from a story that appeared in _The Fresno Bee_ on

"North Fork case seeks help"
by Charles Mccarthy, The Fresno Bee
DATELINE: MADERA
Ken Keller, who returned from work in Madera on April 11 to find his
wife and 2-year-old daughter fatally shot in their North Fork home,
Tuesday asked anyone with information about the double murder to call
a hot line that began operating this week.
'Any help is appreciated,' Keller said.
The hot line number, donated by the Oakhurst-based Sierra Telephone
Co., is 683-1327.
Madera County sheriff's detectives have not discovered who shot
Kimberly Keller, 38, and her daughter, Katherine Elizabeth, in the
Keller home on Pine Tree Lane in the Leisure Acres subdivision.
[snip]
'It's still under investigation,' Madera County sheriff's Sgt. Milt
Gauthier said Tuesday at the Bass Lake substation.
'We don't have a case that's strong enough to point to any individual
and make an arrest.'
[snip]
Investigators learned that Kimberly usually left her job at the
Ponderosa Telephone Co. in O'Neals about 4:30 p.m. She would then pick
Katherine up from day care before driving home, located up a winding
road deep within the mountain subdivision.
That's where Ken Keller found them shot when he returned home about 6
p.m. from his county job in Madera, investigators said.
[snip]
In the North Fork community, where many people moved to escape urban
crime and violence, murders are unusual.
'Most people, obviously, they're incensed by it,' Gauthier said of the
killings.

Sorry Andy. I have had company most of weekend so I've just peeked in the
ng from time to time hitting on one or two posts and missed your post on
these murders.
Good sleuthing, by the way.

Sherry--Here's my third and final contribution to this thread:
excerpts from a relevant article published October 27, 1994 in the
_Fresno Bee_. (BTW, Sherry, I apologize for having accidentally sent
my last posting to you via email; I meant solely to post it to ATC.)
"Who killed Ken Keller's family?"
Charles Mccarthy, The Fresno Bee
DATELINE: OAKHURST
Each evening Ken Keller returns to his home on Pine Tree Lane, in a
peaceful subdivision called Leisure Acres nestled in the mountains
near North Fork, but it's not the same anymore.
It hasn't been a happy place since last April 11 when Keller returned
home from work about 6 p.m. to find his wife, Kimberly, and their
22-month-old daughter, Katie, shot to death.
[snip]
On Wednesday, the reward for information was raised from $ 10,000 to $
25,000. A telephone hotline has been set up at 683-1327.
"My security is very heavy now," Keller said. "I want to be prepared
if they show up again. It's hard for me to judge the level of fear in
the community."
Leisure Acres is an older subdivision with homes scattered through
wooded hills. Next door often means a neighbor hundreds of yards away.
It's still quiet, Keller said.

Seymour said that people, he wouldn't say who, have been questioned in
connection with the case, which investigators said apparently happened
after 4:30 p.m. that Monday in April. That's when Kimberly Keller, 38,
left her job at the Ponderosa Telephone Company in O'Neals.
Her routine, investigators said, was to pick up Katie at a
babysitter's and return home before Ken Keller arrived from his job in
Madera.
"We're hoping that someone will come forward and that will help us put
the case together," Seymour said.
On the morning after the killings, Madera County Sheriff's
investigators at the Bass Lake substation said that Kimberly Keller's
17-year-old son from a previous marriage had lived in the Kellers'
home until a few weeks before the slayings. They wouldn't say if the
youth had been questioned.
Kimberly Keller's son reportedly now is living outside of California
and Seymour wouldn't comment Wednesday about the youth.
[snip]
"It still hasn't completely sunk in," Keller said. "You can only take
so much pain at one time. I think about it every 15 minutes, I'm
sure."
Seymour said his investigators have kept the case open but they need
some leads.
"That's what it's all about right now, trying to make something
happen," Keller said.
