ST. LOUIS -- The ex-husband of Amanda Jones, who has been missing for two
years, died Friday, neighbors and her relatives said.
Neighbors said they saw fire trucks and ambulances outside of Jeffrey
"Scott" Jones' south St. Louis home early Friday and learned that he had
died but did not know how. They said he lived there with the 7-year-old
daughter he shared with Amanda Jones and his wife.

Amanda Jones' parents, Hubert and Bertha Propst, said Scott Jones' father,
Woody Jones, called Friday to tell them his son had died, but did not reveal
the cause of death. Woody Jones declined to comment.

No other family members could be reached for comment.

On Aug. 14, 2005, Amanda Jones, who was 26 and nine months pregnant at the
time, told her mother she was going to the Hillsboro Civic Center to meet
Bryan Lee Westfall, the man she believed was the father of her unborn son.

No one has reported seeing Jones since, and no one has been charged in her
disappearance. The couple's daughter has lived with her father and his wife
ever since.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office detectives interviewed Scott Jones about
his ex-wife's disappearance, but he was not a suspect.

Am I understanding this? The disappeared woman was the mother a child who
was fathered by this guy, the guy in this article who is now dead? The child
lived with the dead guy, right, who was her dad? So this guy is dead, and
the child has been raised by hime and a step-mother, but we don't know that
the step-mother will keep her at this point? Right?

Scott Jones (recently deceased) and Amanda Jones (whereabouts unknown)
have a daughter. Prior to Amanda's disappearance, the daughter lived
with Amanda. Amanda was pregnant again, and allegedly the father was
Bryan Westfall (rich guy with access to lots of rural property who
denies being the father). Amanda disappeared after meeting with
Westfall at the civic center. After Amanda disappeared, the daughter
lived with Scott and his wife.

Amanda's parents had to go to court to get visitation rights after
Amanda's disappearance. Hard to say where the daughter will end up now.

I remember this case. I wonder what he died of? One would think her
parents could gain custody of this child, since the father is now dead.

If the dead man's daughter has been raised lovingly by the step-mother
during this time, maybe she's (daughter) better off staying with her (if
that's what they both want). Wonder if there are half sibs too?

There wasn't an update in today's paper. There are some really lose
connections between Scott's family and one of my b-i-l's family. I will
eventually hear it through the grapevine. The reason that the grandparents
had to go to court was that the Jones' didn't feel it was healthy for her to
go over and see the SHRINE they had to her mom. Thats all they talked
about, and how much she was like her, looked like her, etc. It was giving the
kid nightmares.

But wasn't it pretty much widely accepted that the *father* was the only
suspect in the pregnant girlfriends disappearance?

They never came out and said Brian Westfall is a suspect. They said we want
to talk to him, he won't meet us,he got a lawyer,we can't find him,we want
to talk more, etc. Sort of like saying everything BUT he's a suspect.

That would be creepy. Hopefully, they have advanced beyond that stage
by now -- for everyone's sake.
