VERY interesting update here, on an at-large suspected SERIAL killer, 50 year
old James Allen Kinney. I remember posting about this case MANY months ago, but
this is a WONDERFUL, fascinating update, found and POSTED to my Mailing List,
by one of the MANY dedicates newshounds on the BEST Mailing List in the whole
world, MY Mailing List. Be advised folks, you are missing out on PLENTY of
SK/MM news, if you are NOT a member of my Mailing List, and my posts to Usenet,
prolific as they may be, do NOT change this fact.
50 year old James has been the target of an INTENSE, nationwide manhunt, for
MONTHS. He is CHARGED with the October of 1998 TORTURE-murder of a 20 year old
gal named Keri Lynne Sherlock, in Washington. He is also under INVESTIGATION as
a suspect, in unsolved harvestings of YOUNG gals, in at least FIVE other
states, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Idaho and Oregon. Obviously, IF he did kill
in even TWO out of these 5 states, that would make him a genuine serial killer,
assuming that he DID commit the 1998 WA murder. We must keep in mind that being
FIFTY years old, the possibility that James may be a truly PROLIFIC serial
killer, cannot be discounted. He has certainly had enough TIME to rack up a
large victim toll.
We learn below that the pathetic pigs may well have let James slip through
their fingers last month. He was briefly DETAINED at a major PA airport, but
then allowed to go free. James was FEATURED on the "Amerikkka's Most Wanted" TV
show last month, and the VERY NEXT night, two security guards at Philly Int'l
airport, thought that they "recognized a man matching Kinney's description",
according to a WA police detective. The man was WITH a young gal, and showed no
agitation, WAITING calmly as the guards searched his luggage. Inside of the
luggage, according to the airport security guards, there were ITEMS that had
the NAME of James Kinney on them! So, if true, this IS pretty STRONG evidence
that this WAS James Kinney, wanted fugitive & suspected serial killer. The fact
that he was travelling WITH a YOUNG GAL, and all of his VICTIMS are believed to
have been young gals, is a GREAT touch! Ya gotta wonder whether she might be in
James' sights, as a possible future victim!
The airport guards, "rent-a-cops", if you will, called their supervisor and
told him they thought airport police, with ARREST powers, should be called to
the scene, but but the supervisor "apparently didn't think it was important"
and instructed the guards to let this fellow go, and that's exactly what they
did! Wow, what a CLOSE call this was! Lady luck was shining on James.
As far as the one "confirmed" victim goes, 20 year old Keri was found
murdered, raped, and her body MUTILATED in a "ritualistic sexual manner." She
was left totally naked, in the woods. Yup, DEFINATELY looks like a serial
killer's handiwork, although that is only an ASSUMPTION that we can make. James
was last SEEN right in the area where the body was found, a TRUCK that police
think James drove, was found abandoned right near the dump location, as well.
Ya gotta James a TREMENDOUS amount of credit, he became the SUBJECT of a
police manhunt within DAYS of this October of 1998 murder, and yet has managed
to TOTALLY avoid capture for over 18 months now. This is NOT an easy thing to
do, especially when your IDENTITY is KNOWN to the police.
Stay Strong, James!
Take care, JOE

Officials say Washington slaying suspect sighted in Philadelphia
Wednesday, May 31, 2000
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
BELLINGHAM -- Despite being the subject of a nationwide search, a slaying
suspect might have been allowed to go free after being briefly detained last
month at Philadelphia International Airport, local officials say.
James Allen Kinney, 50, is charged with the Oct. 3, 1998, aggravated
first-degree murder of Keri Lynne Sherlock, 20, whose body was found on a
logging road near Glacier, about 90 miles north of Seattle. He also has been
investigated in unsolved killings of young women in Michigan, Minnesota,
Iowa, Idaho and Oregon.
Kinney disappeared the day after the Sherlock killing, and authorities
issued a nationwide warrant for his arrest.
On April 23, one night after Kinney was featured in a segment on the
television show "America's Most Wanted," two security guards at the
Philadelphia airport recognized a man matching Kinney's description,
Detective Mark Joseph of the Whatcom County sheriff's office told The
Bellingham Herald and radio station KGMI.
The man, who was accompanied by a young woman, waited while guards
searched his baggage, where they discovered items labeled with Kinney's
name, Joseph said.
The guards called their supervisor and recommended calling airport police,
but Joseph said the supervisor "apparently didn't think it was important"
and instructed the guards to release the man.
Although Joseph and other members of the sheriff's office were unable to
identify Kinney from the security videotape, they believe the security
guards' account is reliable.
"We have every reason to believe that was him," Joseph said.
Celeste Bottorff, spokeswoman for Atlanta-based Argen Bright, which
provides security at the Philadelphia airport, said Wednesday that the
company was investigating the matter.
Bottorff said a man said to resemble Kinney had his bags searched at the
airport as part of a random check of passengers. After the baggage check,
she said, the man was allowed to proceed. A few minutes later, a guard
remarked that the man resembled someone he'd seen on "America's Most
Wanted," but took no steps to have the man apprehended.
The investigation so far has not indicated that the guards discovered items
bearing Kinney's name, nor is it likely that a supervisor would have been
called for consultation, Bottorff said, because a police officer is
stationed near every checkpoint and would have been immediately alerted to
anything suspicious.
"Certainly, it wouldn't be within the authority of our guys ... to detain
them," Bottorff said. "They're there to check on bags."
Sherlock moved to Bellingham in September 1998 from Braintree, Mass., to
attend Western Washington University. A month later, she disappeared after
spending the evening with Kinney.
Kinney disappeared that same day and was last seen walking toward
Bellingham on Mount Baker Highway. A pickup that authorities believed
Kinney was driving was found near the slaying scene.
Sherlock had been raped and her body mutilated in what authorities called a
ritualistic sexual manner. She was left naked in the woods.

Report: Kinney spotted
CRIME: County murder suspect may have been released by airport security.
Keith Chu, The Bellingham Herald
A skeptical security supervisor at Philadelphia International Airport allowed a
man whom officials here believe was suspected killer James Allen Kinney to walk
away.
Kinney, 50, is charged with the Oct. 3, 1998, aggravated first degree murder of
Keri Lynne Sherlock, 20, whose body was found on a logging road near Glacier.
Kinney disappeared the day after the murder, and authorities issued a
nationwide warrant for his arrest.
Despite the nationwide search, which included a segment on the TV show
"America's Most Wanted," Kinney remains at large.
But on April 23, two security guards at the Philadelphia airport recognized a
man matching Kinney's description from a segment on "America's Most Wanted"
that aired the night before, said Detective Mark Joseph of the Whatcom County
Sherriff's Office.
The man, who was accompanied by a young Hispanic woman, was detained and the
guards searched his baggage, where they discovered items labeled with Kinney's
name, Joseph said. The guards called their supervisor and recommended calling
airport police, but Joseph said the supervisor "apparently didn't think it was
important," and instructed the guards to release the man.
Although Joseph and other members of the Sherriff's Office were unable to
confirm the man's identity from a security videotape, they believe the security
guards' account is reliable.
Coming up
The latest "America's Most Wanted" segment on James Allen Kinney airs at 9 p.m.
Saturday on Fox (Channel 13 in Bellingham).
"We have every reason to believe that was him," Joseph said.
"America's Most Wanted" has aired two segments on Kinney, and will air another
segment at 9 p.m. Saturday regarding the incident in Philadelphia.
Authorities don't know Kinney's specific whereabouts or where he was headed
from the airport. Joseph said he is hopeful, however, that continued coverage
on "America's Most Wanted" will lead to Kinney's arrest.
"When the show airs, we're hoping someone from Philadelphia recognizes him or
the woman he is with," Joseph said.
Sherlock moved to Bellingham in September 1998 from Braintree, Mass., to attend
Western Washington University. A month later, she disappeared after spending
the evening with Kinney on Oct. 3.
Kinney disappeared that same day, with the last county sighting of him walking
toward Bellingham on Mount Baker Highway. A pickup that authorities believed
Kinney was driving was found near the murder site.

Off guard: Airport security lets wanted killer go
by John F. Morrison
Daily News Staff Writer
The man looked familiar.
Two security guards spotted him as he arrived at Philadelphia International
Airport on April 23 in the company of a young woman.
He looked familiar because the night before he had been featured on the
"America's Most Wanted" TV show as a man suspected of killing a series of young
women across the country.
A great coup, right?
You could see the headlines: "Airport Security Guards Nab Serial Killer
Suspect."
Too bad the headline never got written. The guards let the man go.
The blunder came just a few days after it was revealed that the company that
provides security for the airport had allowed untrained and criminally suspect
guards on the job.
The company, Argenbright Holdings Inc., and two fired employees faced felony
charges in that investigation.
There is no indication that the two guards who saw the suspect, James Allen
Kinney, 50, were among the questionable employees.
In fact, it was a supervisor who told them to let the man go, according to
authorities in Washington state, where one of the victims was killed.
Kinney is charged with the Oct. 3, 1998, aggravated first-degree murder of Keri
Lynne Sherlock, 20, whose body was found on a logging road near Glacier, about
90 miles north of Seattle.
Sherlock had been raped and her body mutilated in what authorities called a
ritualistic sexual manner. She was left naked in the woods.
Kinney also has been investigated in unsolved killings of young women in
Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Idaho and Oregon.
Kinney disappeared the day after the Sherlock killing, and authorities issued a
nationwide warrant for his arrest.
Detective Mark Joseph, of the Whatcom County, Wash., sheriff's office, told the
Bellingham Herald and radio station KGMI that the man had waited patiently
while the airport guards searched his baggage, where they discovered items
labeled with Kinney's name.
The guards called their supervisor and recommended calling airport police, but
Joseph said the supervisor "apparently didn't think it was important," and
instructed the guards to release the man.
"We have every reason to believe that was him," Joseph said.
Celeste Bottorff, spokeswoman for Argenbright, said the company was
investigating the matter.
She said that the bags of a man who is reported to resemble Kinney were
searched at the airport as part of a random check of passengers. After the
baggage check, she said, the man was allowed to proceed.
A few minutes later, a guard remarked that the man resembled someone he'd seen
on "America's Most Wanted," but he took no steps to have the man apprehended,
Bottorff said.
"Certainly, it wouldn't be within the authority of our guys. . .to detain
them," Bottorff said. "They're there to check on bags."
