I'm just wondering if anyone else has the same reaction I'm having to Steve
Guttenberg's parade around the talk shows tonight.

When I first heard about Hartman I was shocked, of course, and thought (to the
extent that I thought about it at all) that it was probably the too frequent
and very unfortunate mix of marital problems, a depressed and angry partner and
a handy gun. Now, after listening to Guttenberg for a while, I've gotten a lot
more curious.

(For anyone who doesn't know, Guttenberg has made himself available to the
networks to expound repeatedly and forcefully about how the media shouldn't
drag Hartman's name through the mud, shouldn't air the family's dirty laundry,
should let sleeping dogs lie. Anyway, you get the drift. He's trying to bully
the media into not sensationalizing the deaths. )

But all his talk is having exactly the opposite effect (on me) as the one SG
was hoping for. Whereas I was sort of uninterested in a motive at first, now I
can't wait to hear what horrible, unmentionable secrets this guy and his wife
had.

Anyone else feel that way?

Well, what's been out so far is that Phil WAS planning on leaving
Brynn/Vicky for another woman. In an interview a few years ago, Phil
jokingly talked about how he would never think to step out on his wife
because she was an incredibly jealous woman. Hmmm....

hmmmm...now that you mention it..I think you got something
here. Maybe Guttenburg is actually still dealing with the
shock that was very evident in his initial interview - (he
was the first "celebrity" on camera after the deaths, and
was (I think, sincerely hurt)....and this blabbing really is
his way of defending his friend's honor. I think it may be
genuine, his concern for his friend's good name. Or, if you
want to be totally cynical...he's in it for the PR, wants to
regenerate a flagging career with as many tv appearences as
possible. I tend to doubt the latter. ---Tribe

***I've got my doubts about the depth of Guttenberg's friendship with Hartman.
You got many good friends who barely know your spouse of 11 years?

Just purely playing the devil's advocate here (so turn off the flame-throwers)
but how often does the "other person" in a love triangle know the spouse?

This crossed my mind when I heard (god knows where, I've lost track) that a 911
call came from inside the house from a man saying someone had been shot.
Hmmmmmmm.....

Myself, not really. I liked that guy. He'll be missed. The wife
looked vacuous and nuts, and I'm sure it'll turn out she was bipolar or
something. Jealous/possessive people suck.
Did you hear Stern this morning, Mags? Pretty eerie interview with
Hartman where he said something along the lines of "I'm passive
aggressive, and I get involved with nutty women." About a 6.5 on the
weirdo scale.

From what reports I have heard, Gutenburg and Hartman were
friends for 20 years....and Bryn is Phil's 3rd wife. I don't
know how long they've been married...but I would guess at
least 6/7 years. As far as Gutenburg and Hartman's
relationship...they most likely were not in touch with each
other in the past few years as much as in the past because
of Phil's hectic schedule of work, I would imagine. His
career has been flying.
I have some long term, very good relationships that
precede my marriage. I also do not know every one of my
husband's friends' wives, and don't find the fact that Steve
did not know Phil's wife all that unusual.---Tribe

Yes, I had the same reaction. Methinks we're soon going to be hearing about
Mr. Hartman's "secret life" as a whatever.

Hmmmmmmm.....

***Today's LA Times said the 911 call came from a neighbor. It didn't mention
where he was at the time. I'm assuming we'll find out one of these days.
