FARMINGTON HILLS -- The wife of a veteran Oakland County Sheriff's
deputy faces multiple counts of prostitution in what authorities
describe as a long-running operation in which she allegedly advertised
her services for $250 an hour through a Web site.

Christy Ann Newlin, 45, of Waterford Township, was arraigned Wednesday
before Troy 52-4 District Judge William E. Bolle on charges of keeping
a house of prostitution, use of a computer to commit a crime,
accosting and soliciting, and use of a computer to commit
prostitution. She was similarly charged before Farmington Hills
District Judge Marla E. Parker, also on Wednesday, and released on
personal bond in both cases pending a Monday preliminary hearing.

"I often receive tips, anonymous tips, regarding criminal activity of
citizens, and this one, unfortunately, concerned alleged activity of
the wife of one of my officers and, more unfortunately, proved to be
true," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, who initiated the
investigation earlier this summer.

"But it shows we have rules that have to be followed, and people have
to be held responsible," said Bouchard, who declined to provide
specifics of the probe and how confirmation of illegal activities was
ultimately determined by deputies.

Bouchard said it is believed "thousands of dollars were involved" in
the illegal business and that she may have then used much of the money
to gamble at area casinos.

Bouchard stressed an internal investigation of Newlin's husband, a
respected veteran who has held many duties within the department,
showed he had no involvement in the illegal activity, and he remains
on the Sheriff's Office payroll. "He is very distraught over this; it
has been very emotionally draining for him and others," said Bouchard.

Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Edward Cibor said investigators
believe the activities occurred over a 12-year period.

Speaking as one who has "paid for it" -- not true at all.

I'd say that if you are "paying for it" you'd be pickier, but thats my logic

Hell yeah. If you're paying for food in a restaurant, do you
eat any old slop they set down in front of you?

Two words: fast food.

Sometimes when we're bored at the pub I'll whip out the phone and
we'll surf the ads on Craigslist. Maybe that isn't a representative
sample, but the women are pretty unattractive. My neighborhood pub on
a weekend night gets a couple of dozen very hot women (I'm not saying
they're interested in dating some middle aged non-rich guy like me,
I'm just saying they're there) that are far better than anything I see
on CL. And if you drive the Tenderloin or San Pablo Ave - yech!

Now the one place where I am amazed at the whore talent is Vegas,
women that are breathtaking are working the casino bars. And I've
heard L.A., Miami, and Dallas are the same way in terms of whore
talent.

I just figured that in most places a really pretty woman can make
money off of her looks without prostitution - receptionist, sales,
whatever. In L.A or Miami you've got such an abundance of beautiful
women, and in Vegas such a surfeit of jobs, it might be different.

But in matters of whores, I'll bow to your far greater expertise.
Always glad to learn something.

Sometimes I never get men's taste. The woman in the article, I mean.
Considering it's a mug shot, I think she's nice looking enough. Maybe her
hair is a bit flat, like she'd been wearing a hat or something, or anyway it
wasn't freshly combed maybe? But really, what's wrong with her looks? Who'd
look good in a mug shot? Not many, of either gender. In the dim light of a
hotel bar, and better hair and dressed nicely, I think she'd look pretty
good? Don't you think? I'm shocked you think she's downright "ugly". She
looked, at 45, just fine. IMO. Anyway, maybe her looks don't have that much
to do with how good she was at her work? This is when it would also be good
to hear from that guy who isn't here any longer, what was his name? The
former LE guy? Alex? What was his other nym? Anyway, I don't get it.

Kiss my ass. Buying sex from someone who wants to sell it
can in no way be compared to trying to send three innocent men
to prison for a crime that never happened.

Please allow me to repeat -- kiss my ass.

I am sooo glad you said it TD.

If a guy tells me he is enough of a loser to need to BUY it....well
he's outta here. I sure don't want him.

I don't even care if he buys it where it's legal.

This tells me a lot about this MS fellow...who really hates women at
any rate.

It's legal here, but it's odd, the legality part. The sexual activities are
all legal... up to penetration, as I understand it. And maybe I don't
understand it at all, I have to admit that. There are brothels all over the
place, and they advertise freely. I don't get it to tell you the truth. For
some reason, I'm thinking even with regulation, there is still much
crminality around it, drugs etc. Anyway, I did hear of one woman tho, in her
40s, and rumor had it (and it was just a fluke I happened to hear this
story, but I believe it to be true) that she was just a regular person, not
an addict or a nasty type, but she worked in a brothel for years and her
specialty was working with her hands. Apparently she had a longterm loyal
following. She treated it like anyone would treat their regular job. It had
been her job for years - still her job as far as I know.

I think the sex industry has its place, properly regulated like any other
industry. I think prostitution is what some people need, when for one
reason or another they might not have other options, and that many men and
women might benefit from an occasional visit at certain points in their
lives. This is theory only. Never been, never will. But just because I
wouldn't do it, I can still see how others might have good reason to.

1) What would you know about how hard it is for MEN
to find sex?
2) Who said I *had to*?
and
3) Who said I was bragging? I was merely reporting,
for the benefit of the discussion, which YOU then felt
compelled to turn into the usual ad-hominem against me.

So let me say to you as well -- kiss my ass.

Sure, it is great when they are "layered". I don't use the services of

Whole different concept. Perhaps it's a male/female thing. If I want sex,
I don't want it with a stranger. Just me, but I have to at least *like* the
person I'm going to have sex with. I've never had sex on a *first date*.
Not saying it's wrong, just that I have to know somebody a bit better to
decide if I want to share something as intimate as sex with them. And
usually it's by *knowing* that person, that I became physically attracted to
them. To the whole person. When I had sex with somebody it was because I
truly enjoyed everything about that person. I liked them, they were fun to
be with, fun to talk to, and fun to have sex with. We *clicked* on all
levels. When I've been involved in discussions with my friends, most of the
women seemed to be the same. Their *guys* maybe wanted to hop in bed
quicker, but we wanted to *know* them better. Perhaps it has something to
do with vulnerability? After all, you are bigger, stronger, we want to know
*you* before we become that vulnerable.

I think it might have to do with biological imperatives laid down by
our animal origins mingled with societal concerns. Add in individual
feelings, parental pressures, and realities, and I imagine that there
are a wide range of beliefs and practices.

There are a lot of women that like and do have sex with a stranger, as well
as the men. It's dangerous for both partners, but it happens all the time
and will always happen. Hookers don't know their john the first time
around. There are a lot of women that give it away free to anybody that
will give them a little attention. Snyder's choosing to pay a prostitute
is no different than picking up a stranger in a bar after buying her a few
rounds of drinks (which can cost damned near as much as a hooker), and there
are plenty females that will go willingly.
