Investigators Find Car Belonging to Murder Victim
The Marin County Sheriff's office says the car belonging to murder victim
Selina Bishop has been found parked on a street in Petaluma.
Bishop's car, a bluish-gray 1984 Honda Accord had been missing since Bishop
disappeared earlier this month.
Investigators believe Bishop was murdered--along with victims Ivan and
Annette Stineman--in connection with an extortion plot that went bad. Three
suspects have been charged in connection with the murders. Glenn Helzer, his
brother Justin and their friend Dawn Godman face 13 counts including murder,
burglary and drug charges.
Divers had been searching for her car in the Delta after sonar picked up a
large object, but they gave up yesterday.

Slain man in burning car

A supervisor for a Sacramento security guard firm was found dead in his
burning car Wednesday in the Robinson Flat area of Placer County.
Matthew Lenabat, 23, had been missing since leaving Sav Max supermarket on
Norwood Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Rick Armstrong of the
Placer County Sheriff's Office.
"From what we found at the scene, we could tell we weren't looking at an
accident and we weren't looking at a suicide. It's a homicide, but that's
about all we know," Armstrong said.
An autopsy for Lenabat, who was identified through dental records, has been
scheduled to determine a cause of death.
The car was found about an hour's drive over rough roads from Interstate 80,
about halfway between Foresthill and Soda Springs, Armstrong said.
Lenabat had worked at Quest Intelligence Group for only two weeks, said
owner Dale Price, but he had come highly recommended from his native Canada.
"We're just devastated. He was this young, good-looking guy, newly married,
very likable, professional, grounded. What you call a stand-up guy," Price
said.
Lenabat had finished his work early Tuesday and was heading home the last
time anyone with Quest saw him, Price said.
Sonya Maynes, whom he married June 17, reported him missing the next day.
Three jailed in man's slaying: Victim was supervisor where trio had worked

Three former employees of the security firm that hired newlywed Matthew
Andrew Lenabat as a supervisor just two weeks ago have been arrested in
connection with his kidnapping and slaying, authorities said Friday.
All three -- Adam J. Gray, 21, of Fair Oaks; Josh A. McLean, 20, of
Sacramento; and Billy Joe Jones, 25, of Elverta -- were booked into the
Sacramento County jail late Friday.
Detectives investigating the killing of Lenabat, 23, whose body was
discovered in his burning car Wednesday in Placer County, are not commenting
about a possible motive.
Dale E. Price, owner of Quest Intelligence Group in Old Sacramento, said
Lenabat had been supervising two of the suspects before their recent
departure from the firm.
"One left the company last week, another left Monday, and both reported
directly to Matt before their departure," Price said of Gray and McLean.
Jones was the supervisor Lenabat replaced two weeks earlier, Price said.
Price added that legal constraints prevented him from saying under what
circumstances the three accused men left his employ, but he said one was
there just four days and another worked for him for several months.
Sheriff's investigators in Placer County were directed to submit the case to
the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office because of evidence that
the homicide occurred in Sacramento County.
A newlywed from Canada, Lenabat disappeared early Wednesday morning after
completing his shift at a Sacramento Sav Max store on Norwood Avenue near
Interstate 80.
After meeting with a guard at the store and sharing a cigarette break with
him about 2:15 a.m., Lenabat "drove out of the parking lot and down the
street and that's the last anyone from this firm saw of him," Price said.
His bride, Sonya Maynes, whom he married June 17, reported him missing
Wednesday afternoon, and Quest employees tried to contact him by radio and
searched for his car at several locations.
But by that time, fire crews responding to a Wednesday morning brush fire on
Soda Springs Road approximately two miles northeast of Robinson Flat in
Placer County had found Lenabat's 1988 Honda CRX fully involved in flames
about 100 feet down an embankment.
His body showed no obvious signs of gunshot or stab wounds, and no
indication of blunt trauma, according to Placer County Sheriff's Sgt. Bob
McDonald. The body was so badly burned that further tests will be required
to establish cause of death.
Once the victim was identified as Lenabat, investigators were led to Gray,
McLean and Jones.
Gray was arrested at the Placer County Sheriff's Department at the end of an
interrogation late Thursday. McLean, who had been questioned and released,
was taken into custody early Friday after recontacting officers and
initiating a second interview, authorities said.
Jones' arrest followed, and sheriff's Lt. Rick Armstrong issued a press
release alleging that Jones had participated with the others in the killing
of Lenabat and had assisted in the arson of his vehicle.
According to Armstrong, Lenabat was taken from a work site and slain in
Sacramento, then driven to the area where his car was set afire and pushed
over a cliff.
Gray, McLean and Jones are being held without bail and will be arraigned
early next week in Sacramento Superior Court.

I heard his wife had just graduated from Medical School. She must be a little
older as he is only 23. I wonder if she will go back to Montreal or chose to
stay in the area. I saw a picture of them and they were a beautiful looking
couple.
