Why should this bitch be paroled at all?
She was a stalker who rammed her ex's house with a car and then murdered
him.

Why didnt she just get herself a young stud
and get on with it! She was greedy and jealous.
She was better off without him but couldnt see it.
Let her rot in prison.

Bets did herself in! Dan was softening, yes , he did fine her and use every
legal manuever he could...but she put herself in the trap, by her own doing,
her personality disorder, her narcissistic disorder. She could have gotten
so much because he would have paid anything to be free and have a life with
Linda. She killed them both because she could not stand Linda to replace
her and have children with Dan. And Bets did have a younger boyfriend
herself who stood by her for a long time after the murders.

* When did it happen? 10 years ago next November
* Weapon: Smith & Wesson .38.
* 3 bullets hit the intended targets
* First trial jurors could not reach a verdict
* Second trial jurors found her guilty, 2nd degree murder
* Sentence: 32 years to life
* Eligible for parole: 2011
* Prison: California Institution for Women, Riverside, CA.
* Job: Secretary, Mental Health Unit
* Present rationalization for what she did: She was in their bedroom
not with the intent of committing murder. Not at all. She was going
to commit suicide in front of them. Then they stirred and she had a
"startle" reaction which caused the gun to go off, again and again.
* Children: all visit her and all are doing very well. Oldest son
is headed for law school; one daughter is married (and
was pregnant at the time); a second daughter is a successful
computer programmer; youngest child, a boy, is at Berkeley.
* Iconography: Like Lorena Bobbitt, Betty has become an icon. Each
acted out their rage in a manner frequently fantasized by other
women: "I should cut his dong off" "I should go to their bedroom
and shoot them right there in their bed." Much fan mail.
* Emotional tone: she has reached peace and contentment in the
simple life she leads in prison. Yes, she wants her freedom; but
she has reached an equilibrium of sorts. She is happy most of
the time.

Push her? If anyone pushed, it was her. Watch the trial. I don't
understand how he could have remained married to her as long as he
did. They divorced, and he went on with his life. She didn't. She
stalked, harassed, and then murdered.

She was getting $16,000 a MONTH in alimony... you call that "taking
away everything"???
With all due respect, if she had been living on $32,000 per month
and was reduced to $16,000, she was "poor" <no mental wealth>
It's relative. She was still a greedy jealous bitch. I would add at
this point: if you're making $100,000 a year and spending
$120,000, you're still broke!

I see your point! I believe, in Betty's case, that she could have been
raking in a billion dollars a month and it would still never be enough.
I believe she suffers from one or more serious personality disorders,
including Borderline Personality Disorder, which makes her feel like
the eternal victim. She feels utterly justified in committing the
cold-blooded murder of her ex-husband and his new wife. She shot them
in their bed, yet claims it was a form of self-defense.... blaming the
victims for startling her when they woke up to find her pointing a gun
at them. She is driven by jealousy and greed, to be sure, but the
personality disorder aspect of it makes her incapable of feeling any
guilt or remorse whatsoever. She makes chills go up my spine. She is
exactly like my significant other's ex-wife, only richer. I keep my
doors locked at night.

Amen.
Betty was\is a spoiled rotten brat. Dan didn't love her anymore and she just
couldn't stand the idea that he might be happy with someone else. It's
understandable to be jealous and resentful if your husband has left you for
a younger woman but there comes a point where you have to let go. The
marriage had been over with for a long enough period of time that Betty
should have moved on with her life.
I have no sympathy for her. She was receiving plenty of alimony and she
could have been comfortable has she not chosen to stick to her initial plan
of harassing Dan and Linda at every possible turn.
Dan was an asshole - no doubt - he didn't deserve to die for it though and
neither did his new wife.
The only ones I really feel sorry for are the kids. The sound of her son
pleading with Betty on tape to stop the harassment and foul language is
absolutely heart breaking.

I found this article on her from Dec 1998 and she is at Frontera Women's
Prison in Riverside County.

Panel reviews Broderick clemency plea
News Archive: December 04, 1998
by Gene Cubbison
SAN DIEGO -- A state board has begun to review a request for clemency from
one of San Diego's most notorious killers.
snip
Broderick is now an inmate at Frontera Women's Prison in Riverside County.
Last May, she filed a petition for clemency with Governor Pete Wilson's
office. This week, the State Board of Prison Terms began asking interested
parties in the case for their opinions on the request.
The prosecutor who put Broderick away says she remains unfit for clemency.
"Her portrayal of (being) 'The Victim' and 'the gun just went off, boom!' is
ridiculous," says Deputy District Attorney Kerry Wells. "She was an expert
marksman. She apparently won awards in college.
"I think Elisabeth Broderick is, in the colloquial sense, nuts."
Jeanette DeWyze is a journalist who has written extensively about
Broderick's life and times in the San Diego Reader. She has corresponded
with Broderick and visited her behind bars.
"She's pretty forthright in saying what she did was wrong," DeWyze says. But
she goes on to say: "I don't hear remorse from her. And if it's going to
take that for her to get clemency, then I suppose she needs to do it. But
I'll be surprised. I've never heard that from her."
And Wells is confident Broderick will never change.
"She does not have a clue and I don't think she'll ever have a clue," she
says.
Broderick is now 51. The way the system works, she won't be eligible for a
parole hearing until she's about 65. Her attorney says he will recommend
that she be given a much earlier date.
The San Diego District Attorney's Office has been asked to file its response
in opposition by December 18. A hearing could be convened, but is not
mandatory. And there is no deadline for the parole board to make a
recommendation to the governor.

I concur with your assessment, but feel that she still harbors so much
hate & feelings of being "wronged" that she can never be happy...but
true, that is subjective. She probably is thriving in the prison
environment, & I'd be happy if she stayed there. I really got irked by
some feminists taking to her cause! Yes, Dan treated her like garbage
after she gave him the best years of her life, but it happens. The
answer is not to give into your impulse & blow the guy away! A real
feminist icon would have been one who turned her situation around, said
"I'm not going to let you ruin my life," & went on to do some work with
truly abused women. Selfishness & her "victim" stance are not feminist
virtues.
