Police find body of missing woman; suspect charged
Associated Press
AUGUSTA, Ga. - The body of a pregnant woman kidnapped during a burglary of
artwork at her mother's house has been found, and a man has been charged
with her murder, police said Sunday.
Ronald Francis Burke, 25, of Augusta was arrested Sunday and charged with
murder, kidnapping and burglary, said Richmond County Sheriff's homicide
investigator Richard Roundtree.
Interviews with Burke on Friday led police 30 miles from Augusta to a wooded
area in South Carolina's Edgefield County where the body of 29-year-old
Tamara Dunstan was found, Roundtree said. Burke is an ex-boyfriend of
Dunstan's sister, Roundtree said.
Dunstan, three months pregnant with her first child, had been missing since
Thursday when she went to her mother's Augusta home to drop off a belated
birthday present. Authorities said she arrived while a burglary was in
progress.
The items taken include two Thomas Kinkade reprints valued at $1,000 each
and several porcelain figurines, priced at between $100 and $200 each,
authorities said. Roundtree would not comment on whether the artwork had
been recovered.
Tips from people who spotted a vehicle similar to the pickup truck that
sheriff's officials had released as a suspect's vehicle led authorities to
Burke, who had been staying at a friend's house.
A cause of death was not immediately released. An autopsy is pending,
Roundtree said.
Friend Allison Mendoza Edenfield described Dunstan, a pediatric oncology
nurse at Medical College of Georgia Medical Center, as "the most selfless
person I've ever known."
Burke was being held at Richmond County Jail.

To make it look like she did it, by taking items that were
known (within the family) to be "valuable and precious"?
I really think that he thought this stuff was valuable,
because of the family talk about it.....and that he
could easily turn it over for money.
She was taken, because killing her there would take
too much time. JMO.

Dh says he's waiting for Kinkade toilet paper. ;) It's about the only
thing old TK doesn't have his impressions on yet, and probably the most
worthy.

AUGUSTA — The body of a pregnant woman kidnapped during a burglary of artwork

murder, police said Sunday.
Ronald Francis Burke, 25, of Augusta was arrested Sunday and charged with
murder, kidnapping and burglary, said Richmond County Sheriff's homicide
investigator Richard Roundtree.
Authorities say Burke admitted to the crime.
"One reason why we think he might be involved is because he told us and he took
us to the body," said District Attorney Danny Craig.
Interviews with Burke on Friday led police 30 miles from Augusta to a wooded
area in South Carolina's Edgefield County.
Just a few feet off a dirt road on federal Forest Service land, the body of
29-year-old Tamara Dunstan was found. Burke is an ex-boyfriend of Dunstan's
sister, Roundtree said.
"She was found in a shallow grave," said Edgefield County Sheriff Adel Dobey.
A cause of death was not immediately released. An autopsy is pending, Roundtree
said.
Dunstan, three months pregnant with her first child, had been missing since
Thursday when she went to her mother's Augusta home to drop off a belated
birthday present. Authorities said she arrived while a burglary was in
progress.
Authorities will decide this week whether the death penalty will be sought,
Craig said.
Craig also plans to meet with federal officials to determine whether state and
federal charges could apply on a newly passed unborn victims of violence act
that President Bush signed into law earlier this month.
That act allows authorities to charge a suspect with a separate offense for
harming or killing a child in the womb in addition to any charges relating to
the mother.
The items taken include two Thomas Kinkade reprints valued at $1,000 each and
several porcelain figurines, priced at between $100 and $200 each, authorities
said. Roundtree would not comment on whether the artwork had been recovered.

The probability of someone watching you is proportional to
the stupidity of your action.

I have a question: could a real life human being possibly be so stupid as to
actually have said this?
Maybe he was answering a direct question, such as "What let you to
believe that [the perp] was involved in this crime?"
It is rather funny, though.

Seems stupid to me, too. But then, some people have even confessed to crimes
they didn't commit.
