Over in Michigan, two brothers, aged 17 and 19, have both been found guilty
of first degree murder and kidnapping, among other charges. Tyrone and Terrance
Reyes were part of a group of 6 teens who kidnapped, brutalized, and the shot
three other teens, who had just gotten off of a freight train that they had
illegally hopped on.
Yup, three naive and middle class teens, 2 boys & a girl, made the mistake of
getting off the freight train in a VERY bad neighborhood. Realizing they were
in over their heads, they asked strangers where they could find a pay phone, no
doubt intending to call their parents. But they stood out as PREY in this
neighborhood, and immediately attracted the attention of this gang of 6 other
teens, who decided to have some fun and engage in a bit of brutal bloodletting,
to cathartically relieve the rage and hate that they felt, no doubt for people
who are in a higher economic class, like these 3 out-of-town teens.
They raped the 15 year old girl, before shooting her in the face. They shot
her 15 year old friend in the head, and finally, they shot 14 year old Michael
Carter. Michael was the only one of the 3 to die. The other 2 managed to
survive their serious gunshot wounds. After the 6 attackers had fled, the 2
surviving teens, bleeding like stuck pigs thanks to their gunshot wounds, made
it to a highway where they tried to get passing motorists to stop and help
them. But of course NOBODY would stop, and dozens of cars just passed on by.
You'd have to be stupid to stop your car and help 2 bleeding teens. Blood is
hard to get out of car seats and other interior surfaces. Best to just roll on
by. But eventually somebody did stop, and the 2 teens were rushed to a hospital
in time to survive their injuries.
Both of these brothers were tried as adults, and face a MANDATORY Life
sentence, with no chance for parole. The lawyer for the 17 year old admitted to
the jury that Tyrone did fire the bullets, apparently into ALL 3 victims. But
he said that Tyrone was just TOO full of both alcohol and marijuana to have had
any INTENT to kill. Well, that's pretty sad. If you are going to kill somebody,
it is good to KNOW what you want to do, and to derive PLEASURE from the act. A
human with altered brain chemistry who does not even INTEND to kill, as he
shoots his gun, is simply WASTING one of the best experiences of his life.
Killing someone UNINTENTIONALLY, is a waste. But I think its very possible that
Tyrone's lawyer was just trying to gain some leniency from the jury, and in
fact Tyrone might well have been fully conscious and aware of what he was about
to do, as he picked up the gun and blasted holes into the 3 out-of-town and
upper class 14 & 15 year olds.
The four other teens that participated in this attack ALL pled guilty to
murder charges, last month. Kind of silly, they should have all pled innocent,
and tried to blame each other. Prosecutors say they believe that our two
brothers, Tyrone & Terrance, were apparently the leaders of this loose-knit
group of teens, and played a primary role in initiating & carrying out the
attack.
Its pretty damn irrational that SIX teens will have to serve Life in prison,
or at least MANY years behind bars, in connection with the killing of only ONE
teen, 14 year old Michael. After all, the six teens did not DIRECTLY cause
Michael to die. Only ONE teen, the triggerman who shot Michael, is directly
responsible for having committed the murder. It makes no logical sense that six
are being PUNISHED for murder, when only 1 teen directly committed the act of
murder.
Take care, JOE

Two brothers found guilty on all counts in attack on teen-agers
March 17, 1998
FLINT, Mich. (AP) Two brothers were convicted of murder and other charges
Tuesday in an attack on three teen-agers who hopped a freight train in the
suburbs and mistakenly got off in a bad neighborhood.
The teens had asked strangers for help finding a pay phone last June. Instead,
they were taken to a trash-littered park and shot. One of the victims, a boy,
was killed. A girl in the group was sexually assaulted.
Tyrone Reyes, 17, and Terrance Reyes, 19, face life sentences for the attack in
this once-thriving city laid low by auto industry layoffs. They were found
guilty of murder, attempted murder and kidnapping.
Six attackers in all took part. Police said they were looking for someone to
rob and stole $10 from the girl.
A lawyer for Tyrone Reyes acknowledged his client was the triggerman but said
Reyes was too drunk and high on marijuana to have intended to kill.
Four others accused in the crime pleaded guilty last month to murder and
criminal sexual conduct and are awaiting sentencing.
Michael Carter, 14, and two friends had hopped a slow-moving freight train
south of Flint to visit some friends. But they failed to jump off at their
destination, and instead got off about 1 a.m. in Flint, about 15 miles north of
their hometowns.
Michael was killed. His 15-year-old friend Dustin Kaiser was shot and wounded
in the head. The 15-year-old girl, who was not identified, was shot in the face
and sexually assaulted.
Dustin and the half-naked girl eventually ran from the park and tried to flag
down a car for help. Dozens of motorists passed the bleeding, wounded teens
before one finally pulled over.

Flint brothers guilty in teen attack
FLINT, Mich., March 17 (UPI) A jury has found two brothers guilty on all
counts stemming from a brutal attack on three, train-hopping teenagers who got
lost in Flint.
One victim was gunned down, another shot in the head and a third raped and shot
in the face last June after what began as a summertime joy ride on a freight
train.
Guilty verdicts were reached today on each of 12 counts, including murder,
armed robbery and kidnapping, against 17-year-old Tyrone Reyes and his
19-year-old brother, Terrance.
They face a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. Circuit Judge
Geoffrey Neithercut ordered them held without bond pending an April 23
sentencing.
The jury found Tyrone Reyes guilty of premeditated murder for actually shooting
the 14-year-old boy, Michael Carter, who died. Terrance Reyes was convicted of
first-degree murder.
Four other young men pleaded guilty earlier.
Prosecutors say the Reyes brothers were ringleaders in a group of six men who
lured the lost teens into a park, promising to help them get home.
The victims, Carter, 15-year-old Dustin Kaiser and Carter's 15-year- old
girlfriend, had ridden the rails about 25 miles from near Highland, Mich.
Prosecutors said they were naive to think the gang would help them.
