It was very wierd to read the book
_Michigan_Murders_ about John Norman Collins.
The murders happened in the city where I lived (a few years
before I moved there) and one of the bodies was found
on the farm of a friend of mine....It added an interesting
angle to read a true crime book and recognize the streets and locations
and say "Woa..I've been there!"
Anyone else had a similar experience?

Holli:

I used to take my kids on picnics at Blue Rock Springs in Vallejo (where
one of the Zodiac's victims was found) -- at around that same
time...yeah, creepy.

Was in Vail, Colo. when Ted Bundy came through and snatched one of his
victims. At the time it was not known what had happened. Later when he
broke out of the Aspen jail a lot of people thought it was a hoot. Only
latter did people realize just what he had done.
Was in NYC during Son of Sam. The whole city was caught up in it. Girls
were changing their hair styles, couples would not go out at night, the
Discos were empty. The media frenzy was magnified by the fact that
Berkowitz was sending messages to the paper. The media attention focused
on Son of Sam in NYC made OJ and JBR coverage look like that accorded to
the coverage of a school picnic!
Now live in San Francisco where my wife was trapped in 101 California
Building several years back when a gunman went on a shooting rampage and
killed 7? people. She called me from her barricaded office on the 28th
floor. I watched it play out on TV for the next 8 hrs. The gunman was
killed in the 29th floor stairwell where he was going down! She was
barricaded for over 10 hrs.

I got the chance to visit the place in San Francisco on Washington Street
where Paul Stine was murdered and followed the path of Zodiac down into
the Presidio. There are some incredibly opulent houses in that vicinity. A
nice place to commit a crime if you're trying to get attention.

I watched the Rose Bowl with Ted Bundy in a bar in Ann Arbor, MI in '79 or
'80--don't quite remember the year (Michigan played Washington). Bundy
seemed like a decent fella, but he didn't know shit about football.

I've told my "I-told-Bob-Berdella-to-eff-off" story in here before
but to make a long story short I was in the park, this man was acting
totally weird and totally annoying, bothering little boys, and told me off
for wearing a bathing suit, he was so creepy, I got total creep vibes, I
told him to eff off, I've never before or since said that phrase, three
years later he was on tv being arrested as a serial killer and the summer
he was in the park was the height of his spree. Here's one serial killer
that did NOT come across as normal!

This must have been when Ted escaped from Colorado on New Year's Eve 1977.
I know he went to Ann Arbor, but decided to go south to Florida. In the
middle of January, he committed the Chi Omega murders, and a few weeks
later he murdered Kimberly Leach. Soon afterwards, he was caught and, of
course, never left Florida again.

I know that bar, Frasier's Pub, and I know Bundy was there for the Rose
Bowl,
so I believe you..... I've been there a few times and I always share that
trivia
with the waitress..... In Ann Arbor he stole a VW Bug and drove it to
Florida,
and we know the rest of the story.... so I think it was 1979 also....

After the police found out he was in Ann Arbor at that time, they checked
for missing persons reports and there were none, so luckily Bundy didn't
kill anyone there.....

They have the best ribs at Frasier's Pub on Friday Nights....

I lived in Ypsilanti for 8 years in a house that John's roomate lived in
after John was arrested..... My landlord told me how the roomate would
hang out the window (my living room window) and yell at the State Police
when they would pick him up everyday for questioning (trying to find out
if he was an accompliss)..... That part is in the book too....

I was going to make an amatuer video about the story, and all the
places that are still standing where he killed the women or where
the women lived when John abducted them..... but I never did....
then I moved away anyway.....

I used to drive by the house where John lived and where he killed his last
victim (the one he was convicted of killing) all the time...

One of my good friends in College (I went to NMU in Marquette where
John has spent probably more then half of his 24 + years in prison so far)
was in that prison because of over crowding in the county jail, and he
said he saw John come into the dining hall one time, he has been working
out so he is really big, and he is tall, and the other guys in the prison
said that nobody gets in his way......

Years ago I found a Mint 1st edition hardcover of Keyes book,
and it's in my book collection.....

I recommend that book to everyone, it is very well written and
detailed... the only weird part is all of the names are changed
to protect the identity....

I live in Baltimore and we have come to see what everybody who lives in
New York and LA have known for years. Our city has become a pretty
popular place to film movies (believe it or not!) Homocide (wkly TV) is
also set here. One of the funniest things to a resident is that a
character will emerge from a building that the viewer knows well, go to
his car, which is parked in a spot locals know is 20 miles away from
that building.

Hehehehheee! Yes, those of use who have worked in Locations know
what you mean. Onscreen, though, *most* people will miss this
sort of thing...

My husband and son say the "very best ribs" are at the Country Tavern
in Kilgore, Texas. Personally, I prefer "Tony Roma's."

that is very diverse.....

That's because, in reality, to do business downtown you have to park 20
miles away.

My picks for the greatest ribs are "Montgomery's" in Cleaveland, Ohio
and the "Damon's" on St. Simon's Island in Georgia.

The book "The Snake and the Spider" by Karen Kingsbury was written
about the case of two boys on spring break that were musrdere in
Florida. The boys were from the same small village in Michigan where
I live. While I didn't know the locations where the murders actually
occrued, I did know the families of both boys. It was so strange to
read about people in a book and realize they're the same people you
sit at the ballfield with watching your kids play. It was a very long
time before anyone searched for the boys - and much longer until the
mystery was solved. The whole situation certainly gave me an insight
into the horror - emotional, physical and financial- that can swoop
down out of nowhere and terrorize a family.

When I moved into my first home in Seattle I took a room in a house with
several other people. I didn't know anyone in Seattle, so my housemates
were the only people I talked to. One of them, a nice college student from
New York, loaned me a book that he had just read called "The Stranger
Beside Me." Reading it, and then discovering that one of the Ted Bundy
crime scenes was a place I walked past every day on the way to the bus was
quite a revelation. It also made me a bit nervous around my nice room mate
for a week or two :-)
