Mass Killings in Georgia

Monday's death of seven people on Adamsville Drive in Atlanta ranks as
one of
the worst single mass killings in Georgia. Some others:
October 1998: Three people were shot to death in the Atlanta Hilton &
Towers. A
killing at the College Park Days Inn and in a Stone Mountain home also
were
tied to the case. Timothy Carl Dawson, also known as Harry Lee Johnson,
37, of
Stone Mountain was charged with the slayings.
January 1998: In Walthourville, six people died in a drug turf war in a
house
40 miles southwest of Savannah.
December 1997: In Santa Claus, in Toombs County, Danny and Kim Daniels
and
their two children were killed while they slept in their home. Jerry
Scott
Heidler, an acquaintance, was charged with the murders.
December 1995: Four men were shot during a card game on Marietta Street
in
northwest Atlanta. Two brothers, Elijah and Freeman Salahuddin, were
charged
with the killings.
January 1992: On New Year's Day, Maxwell Winston Sr., his wife, Mary
Ruth,
their daughter, Valerie Winston, and granddaughter Victoria Slaton were
found
stabbed to death in the family's northwest Atlanta home. Winston's son,
Maxwell
Jr., was charged with the killings.
August 1985: In Valdosta, the Bryant family was slain by James Howard
McClendon. He was the boyfriend of one daughter, Eloise, who was shot in
the
head but survived. Killed were the parents, Charles and Betty, and
daughters
Rebecca and Diana Bryant.
May 1985: In Paulding County, four members of the Ferguson family were
shot to
death in their mobile home. A son pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the
murders.
January 1975: Four people were lined up and shot at point-blank range
with a
rifle in a grocery store near Bluffton in southwest Georgia. Convicted
of the
murders were Homer Salter Jr. and Marvel Davis.
May 1973: The Alday family slaughter in Seminole County ranks among
Georgia's
most notorious. The family interrupted the burglary of their mobile home
by
three escaped Maryland prisoners. Ned Alday, his brother Aubrey, sons
Jerry,
Chester and Jimmy, and Jerry's wife, Mary, were killed. Convicted were
Carl
Isaacs, Wayne Carl Coleman and George Dungee.
