As most of you should know by now, Margaret Mary Ray, one of the most
celebrity stalkers of all time, known throughout the USA as David Letterman's
VERY persistent and totally non-violent stalker, committed suicide just about 2
weeks ago by jumping in front of a moving train. I'm sure that David felt good
about Margaret's death, and breathed a deep sigh of relief from knowing that he
would never have to deal with her again.
But guess what? It would appear that the GHOST of Margaret Ray just might
still be living! I am being facetious in that comment, since I obviously do not
believe in ANY type of supernatural phenomena, but it is QUITE odd that just
one week BEFORE Margaret committed suicide, a DIFFERENT woman began stalking
David Letterman.
Yup, back on September 28th, a 39 year old gal from SC named Nellie Ruth
Shirley was found by police, her car parked in David Letterman's home driveway
in CT. Nellie was arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing.
She was quickly released, and ORDERED to stay away from David's property. I'm
sure that David hopes Nellie is not as persistent in her stalking as Margaret
was.
Nellie does face another court hearing on December 1st, when the terms of her
probation will be handed down. She will NOT have to serve any jail time, since
this is her first offense, and she was unarmed.
Just one week AFTER this incident occured, Margaret Ray killed herself. I
don't THINK it's likely that Margaret could have KNOWN about this trespass
incident. As far as I know, it was NOT reported in the national media at ALL,
until today. But it certainly is odd that David seems to attract so many
stalkers, and that he CONTINUES to have VERY lax security. This woman drove her
car right onto his prperty, right up to his driveway. Why David does not simply
have a remote control security fence at least built around his immediate house
and driveway, if not his entire property, mystifies me. He is SURELY a
multi-millionaire many times over. His net worth is probably between 50 and 100
MILLION dollars. There is just no excuse for David leaving his property wide
open and accessible to stalkers.
Oh well, at least he's been lucky thus far, in only attracting non-violent
stalkers. No word on exactly what explanation Nellie gave to police for her
behavior, and no word on whether she has a mental health history or if any
psychological evaluation has been ordered by the judge in this case.
Take care, JOE

Woman Caught on Letterman's Land
NORWALK, Conn. (AP) -- A woman was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass
after police said they found her in David Letterman's driveway.
Nellie Ruth Shirley, 39, of Honea Path, S.C., is free without bail and was
ordered to stay away from the talk show host's property.
Shirley was charged Sept. 28, after police investigated a report of a
``suspicious vehicle'' in the driveway of Letterman's New Canaan home, said New
Canaan Police Sgt. Christian Gray.
Shirley's lawyer, assistant public defender Christine Schwartzstein, on Tuesday
asked Superior Court Judge Harold Dean to grant Shirley a special form of
probation, where Shirley's record would be wiped clean if she completes the
terms of her probation and is not arrested again.
A hearing was scheduled for Dec. 1.
Her arrest came a week before the suicide in Colorado of Margaret Ray, 46, a
woman who had repeatedly been arrested for trespassing at Letterman's home.

Well, I live in Connecticut, and some of the older, more upper-crust towns do
have laws about what you can and can not build on your own property. His
security could just simple be centered around his home and not his property
also.

Hello Jinx213,
IMO, these types of "zoning" laws are absolutely OUTRAGEOUS and
unjustifiable, and David is a fool if he has chosen to place himself at the
mercy of a town or city zoning law, that prevents him for properly securing
himself and his property.

I guess that's possible, but it's still VERY foolish of him. The best types
of home security systems are LAYERED, and begin with an unclimbable perimeter
fence surrounding the entire property, at it's outermost boundaries.
