The guy serving the longest prison sentence in the United States —
10,000 years — is up for parole on Tuesday at the Alabama Board of
Pardons and Paroles. Sixty-nine-year-old Dudley Wayne Kyzer of
Tuscaloosa was sentenced to death, but his sentence was overturned and
he eventually was sentenced to two life terms plus 100 centuries. A
spokeswoman for Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Tommy Smith said
Smith plans to attend the parole hearing in opposition.
Kyzer was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death in 1981.
His death sentence was overturned and he was retried. That’s when he
got two life terms plus 120,000 months.
He has 9,971 years to go, unless he gets paroled. He was denied parole
in 2004.
Kyzer was convicted of killing his estranged wife, Diane Kyzer, his
mother-in-law, Eunice Barringer, and college student Rick Pyron who
just happened to be at the Barringer home on Halloween in 1976.
Kyzer also was involved in a death of a friend 53 years ago at a
sandlot baseball game in Tuscaloosa. Friends said 11-year-old Marty
Tuerk was struck in the head with a baseball and died 24 hours later.
His death was due to strep meningitis caused by a fractured skull, the
death certificate said.
