The pit bull involved in last week's attack on a Washburn Street
toddler remains at the Niagara County SPCA, and several people have
expressed interest in adopting the dog.
Al Chille, executive director if the Niagara County SPCA, said he's
received calls from all over the country about the dog, a 2-year-old
pit bull named Bear.
"We've got so many requests," Chille said. "People wanting to adopt,
lots of those. People rendering their opinion with regard to the
case."
He said he believes the dog, which has been quiet and well-behaved
since arriving at the SPCA, could be successfully adopted.
"We're going to do everything we can to adopt out the animal into a
good home with no children," he said. "I'm not speculating on what
occurred, but there are lots of homes with people who would like (to
adopt it). ...It's a sad situation all around."
Meanwhile police are still investigating the July 8 attack. The dog
allegedly pinned the 2-year-old boy down and sodomized him, causing
serious injuries.
Lockport Police Detective Capt. Larry Eggert said the toddler had just
removed his own dirty diaper and asked his mother for a new one. She
sent him into the living room to get a new diaper and heard him scream
a short time later, Eggert said.
The mother went into the living room and reportedly saw the dog had
mounted the boy. The woman yelled, which spooked the dog, sending it
running out the door and onto the porch, still attached to the boy,
Eggert said.
Neighbors reportedly saw what was happening and helped the mother beat
the dog to get it away from the boy.
Since the attack, the boy has been at Women's and Children's Hospital
in Buffalo, where he underwent surgery and is still recovering. Eggert
said he may need reconstructive surgery in the future.
The pit bull was impounded at the Niagara County SPCA, where Chille
said it will remain until the police investigation is finished.
DNA samples were taken from the dog to compare with DNA samples found
on the boy. Eggert said the DNA will verify that the attack in fact
took place.
Police are working with the Niagara County District Attorney's office
to determine if any charges will be filed against anyone in the
child's home, but nothing has been determined.
[ Don't hold your breath. - Bo ]
On Thursday night, the dog was transported to the Erie County SPCA,
where it was evaluated by behavioral experts in an effort to find out
what triggered the attack. The dog stayed there overnight and was
transported back to Niagara County SPCA on Friday.
The fate of the dog is unclear. The child's family has expressed a
wish to have it put down, Chille said.
[ And the dog is their property. But their wishes will be ignored,
'cause those doggies are so darn cuuuute. Sheesh. - Bo ]
The dog must have been Republican Roman Catholic ...
Since the *investigation* is ongoing, I don't think the cops are completely
*buying* the randomness of this assault. I too, would be checking out those
paarents mightly closely.

The dog can't *speak* as to what really happened inside that house, nor can
the baby.
td
The kid that told his mother his diaper was soiled, he can't speak?
M'kay...
I'm guessing you got that from the *mother*. If his diaper really was
*soiled*, most mothers don't send the naked kid to find a new diaper. If
the diaper was truly *soiled* and not *wet*, the kid would be 'spreading his
*soil*' all over the house. And if the kid is verbal enough to 'tell his
mother' his diaper is soiled, he's certainly old enough to be sitting on a
potty.

He certainly is, but a toddler who knows enough to remove a dirty
diaper, ask for a new one, and be trustworthy enough to go get a new
one in a prompt manner? That ain't how things happened in my house,
but then I guess everyone else's mileage varies.
I can't believe that many people want to adopt this dog, unless
they're all porn film producers who specialize in bestiality movies.
There's a LOT of unanswered questions about this whole situation.
Marianna
You could be right. My suspicions run more towards other people like *us*,
who aren't really buying the dog did it all on his own theory.
I wouldn't attempt it, but I do have friends who are very knowledgeable in
dog training who would volunteer to take in a dog such as this, train it,
and rehome it. First step would be to neuter the dog. Although some male
dogs who have been neutered, still attempt to hump, they usually aren't real
*serious* about it. It's more like a *distant memory*. ;)
td

>Although some male dogs who have been neutered, still attempt to

Humping behavior isn't limited to males. If a neutered dog is
humping, it's a dominance game, not a sexual thing. Dominance
humping isn't limited to males or females, and if a dog is prone
to doing it, being spayed or neutered won't stop them from doing
it. Often a dog who is dominance humping is just playing, but if
they're allowed to get away with it on a human, they will get the
message that they can dominate that human. It's a behavior that
should never be allowed.

She might have removed the diaper, cleaned him, and sent him to "run

"Diaper" could refer to, I think they call 'em "training pants", but
I'm under the impression that at 2 and a half kids are potty training
but have something that is absorbent like a diaper but is pulled on
like short pants that protects in case of leaks/accidents/etc.

Nobody said he removed it himself.

Au contraire. Many people have rescue fantasies, they probably figure
they are "saving" the animal from being euthanized, and remember that
many people can't tell the difference between an (animal) pet and a
human child. "My dog is like a member of my family" - plenty of
anthropomorphizing idiots really do take that literally.
I don't believe the story at all. I don't think any dog would do that
on its own. And if it did happen then some adult pervert forced the
child and dog together.
Concerning this particular case, no matter what circumstances
led to this rape, even if an adult somehow coerced this dog into
committing this act, the dog shouldn't be considered adoptable.
I mean, seriously... how many dogs *could* be coerced into this
sort of act? Someone could spend months trying to teach an intact
male dog to fuck a human child, and the chances are extremely
high that the dog would never figure out what they wanted. In
order to teach a dog to do this, to actually mount and penetrate
a human child, you'd have to start with a dog who already had
serious dominance issues.
It really irritates me that when a newsworthy animal ends up in
a shelter, there are always people who rush forward to adopt
*that* specific animal.
Meanwhile, animals that are in wonderful shape, have wonderful
temperments, have absolutely no newsworthy problems, are being
put to sleep by the thousands every day.
I guess what I'd like to say to all those people who rush forward
to adopt a problem animal or a severely injured animal who has
made it into the news is, "Now that your humaniac traits are in
the forefront, please go adopt an animal that will fit into your
family because of his temperment and size. Let the problem animals
be the ones we have to kill. Don't make us kill perfect animals so
you can brag to your friends about how you saved an injured,
damaged, abused, starved, yada yada yada, animal."
Oh, and quit telling me, "I don't know how you can work here. I'd
take them ALL home."
What the fuck does that mean? Does that mean that because I don't
take them all home, you love them more than I do?
Sheesh.
Nobody calls *training pants* a diaper. The whole point to using training
pants is to 'get away from' the whole idea of a diaper. That's way
counterproductive to everything concerning potty training. Regardless of
whether they are disposable training pants, or the old fashioned cloth ones,
which I recommended my daughter use on the boys, they are ALWAYS referred to
as *big boy pants*. It reinforces the idea that the child is now a *big
boy* and doesn't use *diapers* anymore because diapers are for babies.

From the original story:
Lockport Police Detective Capt. Larry Eggert said the toddler had just
removed his own dirty diaper and asked his mother for a new one. She
sent him into the living room to get a new diaper and heard him scream
a short time later, Eggert said.
You've had a couple references now from actual *mothers* who have experience
with diapers, training pants, and kids. We all think something about this
whole story just doesn't pass the *smell test* here.

And then there are those like yourself, who regardless of the information
available, wants to kill the dog.
<<He said he believes the dog, which has been quiet and well-behaved

The dog has been quiet and well-behaved since arriving at the SPCA, bo.
And for your information, I know people who are very well-able to train a
dog. Especially one that is 'quiet and well-behaved.' And perhaps some of
those people also don't buy this whole story, and don't think this dog
should pay with his life because something *hinky* is going on in that
house.

Police believe the dog acted alone. Their investigation continues.
That's the beauty of adopting a developmentally disabled child: no
need to pay for college.

Maybe not college, but lots of other specialized schools and it can be

Man tells story of rescuing boy from dog attack
Story Published: Jul 11, 2007 at 6:18 PM EDT
Story Updated: Jul 11, 2007 at 6:22 PM EDT
A Lockport toddler continues to recover from injuries suffered in an
unusual sexual attack by the family's dog. The man who rescued the boy
tells an incredible story of what he saw. The details of what he says
happened are troubling.
What happened in this apartment house on Washburn Street in Lockport
on Sunday is something Anastasio Castillo will never forget. "It's
hard to believe.. Hard.. You had to be there to see. because it was
nasty and ugly." He was walking home from the store when he heard a
woman inside screaming for help. He says he ran inside and saw this
pit bull sodomizing a two year old boy. "The dog had the baby by the
front leg. And the baby's stomach....then I had to beat up on the dog
to take him away from the baby."
He says the dog ran outside...and as Castillo picked up the boy, he
was bleeding from the rectum and then vomited. Castillo is having
trouble sleeping now. He can't understand how it could've happened. It
is extremely rare for something like this to happen. Most cases
involve owners forcing the behavior on animals.
Police say witnesses are cooperating with the investigation. "There's
still interviews taking place and there's consultations with some
experts," said Police Chief Neil Merritt. One of the experts that
police have turned to is an animal behaviorist. Because investigators
have never dealt with a case like this before they need some help in
trying to figure out why the dog would've done this. "Just to see if
there's any instances that have been reported similar instances of
this."
The pit bull remains at the Niagara County SPCA. The family apparently
wants it euthanized but that won't happen until the investigation is
finished. The family does not want any information released on the
boy's condition. At last word, he underwent surgery at Women and
Children's hospital and may have need more surgery to repair the
damage.
Thanks for the links. So the child has no marks on him from the dog
supposedly mounting him. The mother wants the dog put down NOW, and has
herself disappeared. And the dog, when in contact with all humans at the
shelter, has shown no behaviors other than fear.
Oh yeah, lets kill him immediately. This story stinks.

Police Want Help In Pitbull Attack

Lockport Police say any firsthand information from the public will be
helpful. They are investigating how a pitbull sodomized a toddler.
Police are getting many phone calls from people, but they want to hear
from individuals with first-hand knowledge about the dog. They are
looking into calls that the dog may have been trained, but they don't
know by whom.
The pitbull that allegedly sodomized a toddler in Lockport has been
evaluated. According to officials at the Niagara County SPCA, the dog
spent 24 hours with an animal behaviorist. Results of the evaluation
will be turned over to police.
Police say DNA has been taken from the pitbull that attacked a toddler
by allegedly sodomizing it last weekend. It was a disturbing and
violent attack. The two year old child is in Women and Children's
Hospital. Neighbors heard a mother screaming that her child was being
raped.
Lockport police say taking DNA from the dog is part of the
investigation.
Lockport Police received a 911 call from a frantic City of Lockport
mother last Sunday afternoon.
The mother told Lockport Police that she left her two year old
unattended for a short time and after hearing the baby scream, she ran
to see what was wrong.
When she got in the room, she told Lockport Police the dog, named
"Bear" had sodomized the toddler. The mother screamed, scaring the dog
out of the house, but the dog was still attached to the baby.
One neighbor told 2 On Your Side, she heard the mother screaming "the
dog is raping my baby." Neighbors ran to help, but only one man was
able to get the dog and child apart.
Anastacio Castillo says "I tried to get the dog away from the baby,
the dog was already inside the baby." When the baby was finally free,
he was visibly sick. Castillo says the boy was vomiting and bleeding.
The baby was rushed to Women and Children's Hospital where the toddler
underwent reconstructive surgery.
The dog is being held at the Niagara County SPCA for evaluation. An
animal behavior specialist is scheduled to evaluate the pitbull on
Friday.
Since the attack, over 20 people have called the SPCA asking to adopt
the pitbull.
The Niagara County District Attorney's office is assisting Lockport
Police with the investigation.
Miranda Workman, behavior specialist at Purrfect Paws in Amherst says,
"Most likely this is not a learned behavior. Dogs in tact, not spayed
or neutered have a higher hormonal drive."
She urges parents to never, ever leave their children alone with a dog.
Translation: somebody owned this dog before the family got it, and
trained it to perform sexually.

Translation: many people are calling to tell them what they already
know, that there is more to this story than simply a dog that acted in
a way we've never seen a dog act before.

Pity the writer doesn't find a quote to state the obvious conclusion
from this.
> She urges parents to never, ever leave their children alone with a dog.
How about putting that in to the law?
Nah,never happen, 'cause "my dog is a member of my family!" And it's
practically a constitutional right to own a dog. So endanger your
kid. And if you can't afford a fence for the dog, well hell, make the
neighbors build fences to protect themselves. After all, that dog
makes you happy!
And you have a god given right to fully automatic weapons too, no
doubt. I think I saw it somewhere in the Bible...

The news story said this:
"Lockport Police Detective Capt. Larry Eggert said the toddler had
just
removed his own dirty diaper and asked his mother for a new one. She
sent him into the living room to get a new diaper and heard him
scream
a short time later, Eggert said. "
Marianna
My bad, thanks for the correction.
A kid that removes his own dirty diaper...being kind of a germ phobe,
you've found a scenario that I really would hate.
Was it "poopy" dirty or "pee-pee" dirty?
There is nothing off about her telling the kid to run into a room to
get a new diaper. Few boys are potty trained at 2.5 - the average age
is closer to 3. Kids understand a lot more than they can communicate
at that age.
If the kid had a poopy butt, he may have smelled like something that
sexually stimulated the dog. If he was crawling on all fours, or
fell, it's not out of the realm of my mind that an intact male would
try mounting him, or that the dog knocked him down to mount him.
Hell, I have had male poodles hump my leg. Dogs humping humans isn't
all that uncommon.
There isn't any obvious reason that the dog isn't adoptable. IMO, he
was acting like an intact male. <shrug>
I have always said never, ever leave any child unattended with any
dog. Why a mother would leave a 2 year old unattended with an intact
male dog - particularly a breed known to attack viciously when it does
attack - is beyond me.
Spay and neuter your animals, people. All of them.
-L.
Humping is one thing, this went beyond that. A poster in one forum
that lives in the city where it happened said the toddler needed a
colostomy.

Meanwhile, dog experts are questioning whether the story makes sense.
Mary Grisanti, former humane educator in Erie County, said she has
heard of
one other case in which a dog sodomized a baby. In that case, it
turned out
a teenager was manipulating the dog and holding down the child.
"Dogs just generally do not mate with humans," Grisanti said. "That
just
doesn't happen like that. How would the dog get the child into
position?"
Madeline Friedman, owner of Innovative Reality Dog Training and
Behavior
Consulting in New York City, said she has been researching literature
on
this type of attack and came across another example in the book "Dogs
Behaving Badly: An A-to-Z Guide to Understanding and Curing
Behavioral
Problems in Dogs," by Nicholas Dodman.
Dodman, who runs Tuft's University's veterinary center in Grafton,
Mass.,
wrote of an instance in which an un-neutered male dog penetrated an
8-year-old female.
"The incident was in part due to lack of proper management of the dog
by the
parents, and the dog, who was 5 years of age at the time of the
incident,
should have been neutered," Friedman said.

A pit bull? Those things are FUGLY! AND VICIOUS!! WHAT KIND OF
MOTHERFUCKERS HAVE A PIT BULL WITH A 2 YEAR OLD!!
If someone didnt know you they would think you are insane. Ever watch
the tv show "the shield"?? Michael Chiklis' character Vic Mackey is a
detective, probably makes about $60,000 a year. His wife is a nurse,
probably makes about the same. But their son is a disabled child, and
their is no fucking way they can afford any of his needs. Mackey has to
turn evil and rob the Armenian Mob just to support his kid.
So do you want to take back the spirit of what you said about
developmentally disabled children bo?
Actually Mackey has TWO Autistic kids and he was corrupt long before his
kids were diagnosed. And it's a STORY on TV. That does not excuse Bo's
borish behavior, of course, but he's just running par for the course.

Probably not but it does explain why perfect strangers tend to smack him
about the head and shoulders with some regularity, doesn't it?

Police say that the results of a DNA test on a Washburn Street boy who
was apparently attacked by the family pit bull are in and the dog's
traces were the only ones found.
No charges have been filed in the bizarre incident where police
believe the dog sexually assaulted a small child. The dog remains at
the SPCA of Niagara County.
"We're still plodding through it," Lockport Police Detective Capt.
Larry Eggert said.
Eggert said nothing incriminating was found in the results of DNA
tests that were taken from the dog and from the boy.
"If it says dog DNA for both parties, it's dog DNA, which is pretty
much what we were expecting," he said.
