JonBenet Patricia Ramsey
The JonBenet Ramsey case has intrigued the World as we watched closely (mainly due to the tabloid coverage that it received). The murder of a 6 yr old
has never been as widely publicized as this one. This case remains open and as of yet, there have been no formal indictments. The information that
will be presented below will show why this case was truly 羨 Perfect Murder.'
I. Time line of the 48 hours prior to and 24 hours after the death of JonBenet Ramsey.
On 12-23-96 an emergency call was received by Boulder, Colorado police dispatcher Theresa Hilleary at 6:47 p.m. The caller hung the phone up without
saying anything, and the call was traced to 755 15th Ave. This house which was owned by John and Patricia Ramsey, was the site to a christmas party
that entertained close to 100 guests. A return call to the residence was greeted by an answering machine, so an officer was dispatched to the address.
The officer (Boulder Officer #266) was told that someone had miss dialed while trying to place a long distance call. The officer was onto another
assignment by 7:09 p.m.
12-24-96
John, Patricia (Patsy), their son Burke, and daughter JonBenet attended a Christmas eve service at St. John's Episcopal Church.
12-25-96
5:00 p.m. The Ramseys went to Fleet and Priscilla White's home for christmas dinner. Fleet was employed as a top oil executive at this time.
9:00 p.m. The Ramsey's left the White's and delivered presents to Stewart and Roxanne Walker, and then to Glen and Susan Stine before going home.
(Glen Stine resigned as Vice President for Budget and Finance at the University of Colorado during the summer 0f 1998 and joined John Ramsey at Jaleo
North America as Chief Financial Officer. He is also a graduate of Michigan State University, the same university that John Ramsey graduated from.
This shows a strong tie between both Glen Stine and John Ramsey!)
9:30 p.m. The Ramseys arrive home. JonBenet had fallen asleep in the car and was carried upstairs by John Ramsey. Pasty prepared her for bed. John and
Burke then worked on a model.
10:00 p.m. John, Pasty and Burke went to bed. This is the time the Ramsey's gave for the last time they saw JonBenet alive. She was asleep in her bed.
Thursday, December 26, 1996
5:45 a.m. John and Patsy Ramsey woke in order to catch a plane to Michigan. John showered and Pasty went downstairs. She found a ransom note on the
rung of the stairs. She screamed to John after she read the line "We have your daughter". Patsy then checked JonBenet's room and found that she was
missing. Both Ramsey's looked in Burke's room but did not wake Burke.
(The ransom note was later found to be written from a notebook found in the kitchen of the Ramsey's house and written with a pen also found in the
kitchen, although audio enhancement of the 911 call from The Ramsey's would later prove that Burke was awake.)
The ransom Note
Mr. Ramsey:
Listen carefully! We are a group of individuals that represent a small foreign faction. We respect your business but not the country that it serves.
At this time we have your daughter in our possession. She is safe and unharmed and if you want her to see 1997, you must follow our instructions to
the letter. You will withdraw $118,000 from your account. $100,000 will be in $100 bills and the remaining $18,000 in $20 bills. Make sure that you
bring an adequate size attache to the bank. When you get home you will put the money in a brown paper bag. I will call you between 8 and 10 a.m.
tomorrow to instruct you on delivery. The delivery will be exhausting so I advise you to be rested. If we monitor you getting the money early, we
might call you early to arrange an earlier delivery of the money and hence an earlier pickup of your daughter. Any deviation of my instructions will
result in the immediate execution of your daughter. You will also be denied her remains for proper burial. The two gentlemen watching over your
daughter do not particularly like you so I advise you not to provoke them. Speaking to anyone about your situation such as police, F.B.I., etc., will
result in your daughter being beheaded. If we catch you talking to a stray dog, she dies. If you alert bank authorities, she dies. If the money is in
any way marked or tampered with, she dies. You will be scanned for electronic devices and if any are found, she dies. You can try to deceive us, but
be warned we are familiar with law enforcement countermeasures and tactics. You stand a 99% chance of killing your daughter if you try to outsmart us.
Follow our instructions and you stand a 100% chance of getting her back. You and your family are under constant scrutiny, as well as the authorities.
Don't try to grow a brain, John. You are not the only fat cat around so don't think that killing will be difficult. Don't underestimate us, John. Use
that good, southern common sense of yours. It's up to you now, John! Victory! S.B.T.C.
5:51 a.m. Pasty called 911 to report a kidnaping, even though the note said JonBenet would be killed if the police were notified.
(Patsy did not hang the phone up properly and Burke's voice could be heard in the background with the aid of computer enhancement. This contradicts
statements made by all 3 Ramsey's, which stated that Burke was not awake.)
5:52 a.m. Officers Richard French and Karl Veitch arrived at the Ramsey house. They were shown the ransom note and told by John Ramsey that the doors
and windows had been secured the night before.
(Officer French reported that John was pacing while Patsy watched behind splayed fingers and that Patsy was wearing fresh makeup and the clothes she
had worn to diner the night before. Officer French also searched the interior of the home, including the basement for possible entry points of an
intruder. No evidence of forced entry was found. By the end of the day at least 1 door and 6 windows were found unsecured.)
(It had snowed that morning but it was only a dusting. There was an accumulation of snow in front of the house but only patches on the side of the
house where the first window was discovered to be unlocked. There were two footprints found, one near the grate on the outside, a SAS brand shoe, and
one on the inside, near the room JonBenet was found. This one was a Hi-Tec model boot. Both of these are common in law enforcement and may have been
left by initial police officers.)
5:55 a.m. John Fernie (family friend) arrived at the Ramsey's house.
( It is possible that the SAS footprint found near the grate belonged to John Fernie, as he parked in the back of the house and walked to the side
door only to find it locked. He then walked to the front door.)
6:00 a.m. Sgt. Paul Reichenbach arrived at the house and searched the exterior of the house and the yard.
6:20 a.m. Fleet and Priscilla White join John Fernie at the house.
At some point this morning Fleet White performed a search of the house, including the basement but found nothing.
7:00 a.m. Rev Rol Hoverstock arrived at the Ramsey home.
Sometime around 7:00 a.m. John Ramsey and Fleet White woke Burke.
(A conversation took place between John Ramsey and his son, and Fleet was making Burke's bed as this conversation took place. Burke never asked where
his sister was, or why the police were there. I believe this was when the father told Burke what to say if Burke was asked any questions.) Fleet and
John Fernie then drove Burke to the Fernie's, where the Fernie children were picked up. They then drove to the White's and dropped the kids off with
house guests of the Whites.
7:35 a.m. Officer Barry Weiss arrived at the Ramsey House.
7:45 a.m. Fleet and Fernie returned to the Ramsey house.
8:10 a.m. Detective Linda Arndt (a sex crimes investigator), and Det. Fred Patterson arrived at the Ramsey's residence. Arndt is first briefed by
Sgt. Reichenbach about the exterior search.
( Advocates for the victims came to show their support. The advocates brought coffee and bagels and while cleaning up the kitchen, the counters were
wiped with 409 spray cleaner.)
8:10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Det Arndt monitored incoming calls. The ransom note stated that the kidnappers would contact Ramsey between 8:00 and 10:00.
The kidnappers never called. At some point during that morning, John called a banker friend (Rod Westmoreland) in Atlanta to arrange for the ransom
money in the requested dominations.
9:30 a.m. Sgt. Bob Whitson arrived. He discovered what was thought to be pry marks on the rear kitchen door but it was later determined that an old
lock had fallen off and this only resembled a pry mark.
9:55 a.m. John Ramsey went downstairs to the basement alone.
( This shows that the family nor the residence is being treated as a crime scene yet.) Ramsey found a broken, open window. He closed the window before
going back upstairs. He did not report the open window to the police at that time.
( I believe that this window was unintentionally left open because it was being used to dispose of evidence from the Ramsey house to an outside
source. I believe that this evidence would have been needed in order to reach an indictment.)
10:30 a.m. Detectives Arndt and Patterson ordered that JonBenet's bedroom to be sealed off. Det. Patterson left the house and went to the White's to
interview Burke. This left Det. Arndt as the only official in the house. She reportedly called for backup between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., but no one
showed up.
( I feel that this shows that the police department was trying to cover this entire murder up and pulled out all of their men, leaving only Det. Arndt
to take the fall for the lack of proper investigation procedures.)
Sometime during this morning, two police officials, (John Eller and Larry Mason) had a conversation in regards to bringing in police dogs. Eller
wanted ground dogs from Boulder, while Mason wanted air-scent dogs from Aurora. The disagreement lead to no dogs being used.
10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Det. Arndt wrote in her report that 礎etween 10:30 and noon, John Ramsey left the house to pick up family mail.'
(The perfect way to dispose of incriminating evidence found at the last minute!)
1:00 p.m. Det. Arndt, asked John Ramsey, Fleet White, and John Fernie 禅o check the interior of the residence for any sign of JonBenet, or anything
that may have been taken that belonged to JonBenet'. John Ramsey went immediately to the basement followed by Fleet White, while John Fernie stayed
upstairs.
1:03 p.m. Det. Arndt said that she 蘇eard and saw' Fleet White in the den area, crouched by the phone calling for an ambulance. Just a moment later
Arndt saw John Ramsey bringing JonBenet's body up the last stairs of the basement. Her body had been found in a basement storage room that was used
seldom used. It resembled a wine cellar, and had no windows.
(I believe the body was placed in this room because the killer knew that it would be hard to trace evidence from anything found in the basement, as it
was seldom used and would have a collection of pollen, dust, spider webs, and other natural contaminations from not being
cleaned on a regular basis.)
He told Det. Arndt that he removed duct tape from her mouth, picked her up and carried her upstairs. Arndt said that JonBenet appeared noticeably dead
(rigor mortis had well set in). Her wrists were loosely bound and a garotte hung from her neck. JonBenet was wearing a knit shirt with a sequined
silver star on the front and white long johns. Her body had also been covered by a white blanket.
(After credit card reports were investigated, it was discovered that Pasty's American Express was used at McGuckin's Hardware store just weeks before
the murder. The receipt given from the hardware store does not itemize each individual item but it does have a number that would allow store personnel
to locate what section of the store an item was purchased from.)
(A purchase of $1.99 was made for an item from the same section as the duct tape that was removed from Jon Benet's mouth. It was not the usual gray
duct tape, it was a rare black tape that was determined to have been produced in November 1996 by the manufacturer. The price of this tape was $1.99.
Also on the receipt was a purchase for $2.29, and it was from the rope section. This was the exact type of rope found binding JonBenet's wrist
together. It sold for $2.29. The unused portion of tape and the rest of the rope were never located.)
1:05 p.m. John placed JonBenet's body on the floor where he tried CPR. Arndt said while she and John Ramsey were leaning over the body, she heard a 疎
guttural moan, aching wail, from the back of the house'. Arndt told John to go 礎ack to the room' (the den) and dial 911.
While Ramsey dialed 911, Det. Arndt moved the body a second time, placing it under the christmas in the living room. She said that when John returned
from making the call, he requested that the body be covered at the very same time that he was covering it with a cover from a nearby chair.
( This allowed John Ramsey to further contaminate the body. The body was also dressed with a Colorado sweatshirt sometime that morning.)
1:10 p.m. Det. Arndt called 911, gave her radio number and reported the kidnaping had turned into a murder. Minutes later she saw an ambulance drive
past the house.
1:15 p.m. Det. Arndt received a page that told her the ambulance could not find the house.
(This would be a great excuse to allow the police force more time to get their story straight on how they would handle this matter.)
1:25 p.m. Police backup arrived. Det. Michael Everett (Arndt's supervisor) walked through the basement to see if anyone was hiding there. He saw two
blankets in the wine cellar where the body was found. Sgt. Larry Mason (who oversaw the initial investigation) and Officer Ron Walker also arrived.
1:30 p.m. Reportedly, detectives overheard John Ramsey calling Mike Archuleta (a private pilot) at his home. Ramsey told Archuleta 全he's gone, they
killed her,' and Ramsey also told him to ready the plane for a flight to Atlanta that evening. Ramsey was told by Sgt. Mason that he couldn't go
anywhere.
( Someone just killed John Ramsey's daughter and all he can think about is going to Georgia. This sounds as if he was going to Georgia so his family
could prepare the story they would present to the police.)
1:45 p.m. The Ramsey's were allowed to leave their home and they went to stay with the Fernies. Once at the Fernies' they were joined by JonBenet's
pediatrician (who tranquilized Patsy), and attorney friend Mike Bynum, who advised the Ramseys to retain an attorney.
( The Ramseys were never questioned in depth or separately, and would not be formally questioned until April 30, 1997. Four months after the murder!
This shows the ineffectiveness of the Boulder Police Department in wanting to solve this case. I believe that this lack of police work was initiated
by the Lt. Governor of Colorado Gail Schoettler. Schoettlers husband was a fraternity brother of John Ramsey's from Michigan State. They have remained
friends for more than 30 years !)
1:50 p.m. The house was cleared and finally declared a crime scene. Det. Arndt left around 2:35 p.m. and went to see the Ramsey's at the Fernie's
house.
4:00 p.m. Officials from the District Attorney's office begin to arrive. This included assistant DA's Trip DeMuth, Pete McGuire, Mary Kennan, and
Chief Trial Deputy Pete Hofstrom.
8:00 p.m. The first search warrant was issued. This allowed an official search of the house to begin and the coroner to examine the body, although the
coroner did not need a warrant to remove or examine the body.
(If this was not a planned murder, why would it take the coroner almost 7 hours to arrive at the scene of a homicide?)
The warrant was served at 8:20 p.m. and the body was taken into custody of Pat Dunn of the coroners office after Dr. John Meyer examined it. The
brief examination of the body unveiled a ligature around the neck and a ligature around the right wrist. Also, noted was a small area of abrasion or
contusion below the right ear on the lateral aspect of the right cheek. A prominent dried abrasion was present on the lower left neck.
(The exam performed by Dr. Meyer only lasted 10 minutes and he did not perform a temperature test to determine the time of death.)
8:20 p.m. Numerous police officers assisted with the search of the 15 room house. Officer Kerry Yamaguchi noticed the computer equipment and internet
connection. This became the basis of the search that as conducted on the Ramsey's second home that was located in Charlevoix, Michigan on 1-5-97 and
again on 3-6-97 for possible child porn.
This search confiscated numerous computer disks and more than 300 videotapes. Nothing from this search linked the Ramsey's to child pornography.
The12/26 search and others searches authorized by warrants issued on 12/27 and 12/29 did not end until 1/4/97.
10:45 p.m. The body was taken to Boulder Community Hospital.
11:44 p.m. Det. Arndt was the last person to leave the house.
II. Evidence presented from neighbors and further inspection of the house.
After the fact investigations of possible witnesses brought up several leads that allowed police to believe that the murder may have been done by an
intruder.
Officer Barry Harkopp spoke to Scott Gibbons, the neighbor to the north of the Ramseys. His kitchen window faced the north side of the Ramsey house.
From his kitchen, he could see into the Ramsey kitchen. At about midnight Christmas night, he saw some strange lights in the Ramsey kitchen. The
lights' Gibbons saw were not lights from a flashlight or anything like that, they were not moving. Gibbons felt that the lights in the kitchen were on
but perhaps dimmed, possibly a bank of track lights that were above the kitchen window.
Diane Brumfit, the neighbor on the SOUTH side, said that she had noticed something unusual that night too. The lights that were always left ON in the
Ramsey house at night were OFF. The report said that the missing lights were from the 'family room.'
Officer Harkopp spoke to Melody Stanton. She and her husband live to the southeast of the Ramsey home, across the street. She told him she heard a
bloodcurdling scream from the Ramsey home. It stopped soon after it started. Melody woke her husband, Luther, but he heard no scream. Melody heard
nothing more, but her husband did - he heard "the sound of metal clashing against cement.'
(The boiler room had a window with three panes. Two were glass and one pane contained an open pipe similar to a dryer vent, but it was not blocked nor
was anything attached to it. This vent may have intensified JonBenet's final plea for help and acted as a megaphone. It could be possible for the
Melody Stanton to have heard a scream. As far as the sound of metal against concrete, this may have been the sound of a grate being secured, I believe
it was the grate near the opened window. I also believe this is when the first pieces of evidence were disposed of by the Ramsey's, to an outside
source.)
The police did do experiments to see how sound traveled in the house and neighborhood. The police made noises throughout the house and investigated
who could hear what from where. It was found that a scream made from the basement could be heard far better across the street than from the master
bedroom.
Sounds actually traveled throughout the pipes in the house and exited from the roof, where they could be heard upon exiting the house. The floors,
walls, carpeting, and foundation would muffle the sounds so that it would be possible not to hear them in the master bedroom.
III. Autopsy Report of JonBenet Ramsey and statements regarding to.
As you can see, the initial investigation was botched from the beginning and created complete chaos. It certainly sets the path for the remainder of
the investigation.
JonBenet Ramsey
Coroner's Report
Name: Ramsey, JonBenet
DOB: 08/06/90 Death: 12/26/96 @ 1323
Autopsy date/time: 12-27-96 @ 0815
Performed by: Dr. John E. Meyer Boulder County Coroner
The coroner report listed the cause of death as Ligature strangulation, or asphyxia by strangulation associated with craniocerebral trauma.
Excerpts from coroner report.
The un embalmed, well developed nourished caucasian female body measures 47 inches in length and weighs an estimated 45 pounds. The scalp is covered
by long blonde hair which is fixed in two ponytails, one on top of the head secured by a cloth hair tie and blue elastic band, and one in the lower
back of the head secured by a blue elastic band.
(This seems to dispute the statement the Ramsey's made that JonBenet was prepared for bed, as most people do not sleep with their hair in ponytails.)
No scalp trauma is identified.
(While there was a skull fracture, there was no noticed bleeding, swelling, or open wound. A head wound will usually bleed quite profusely and require
applying pressure for it to stop. This tends to show that her blood flow had been interrupted before the killer struck her. Possibly with the
unclaimed flashlight.)
The fingernails of both hands are of sufficient length for clipping.
(Due to the length of the fingernails, there should have been more than enough fingernail for DNA testing. However, due to the DNA being improperly
preserved, the results came back inconclusive. The fact as to why this wasn't able to be used has yet to be explained.)
On the left lateral aspect of the lower back, approximately sixteen and one-quarter inches and seventeen and one-half inches below the level of the
top of the head are two dried rust colored to slightly purple abrasions.
( These abrasions were later thought to be the result of a stun gun but I suggest that they were left there by Jon Benet's fingernails as she tried to
struggle for her last breath.)
Det. Arndt observed Dr. Meyer examine the vaginal and pubic areas of the deceased, Dr. Meyer stated that he observed numerous traces of a dark fiber.
( I believe these fibers came from the shirt sleeve or cuff of the killers shirt and found their way onto Jon Benet while she was sexually assaulted
租igitally')
Det. Arndt observed Dr. Meyer swab the fluorescent areas of JonBenet's body. Dr. Meyer was also observed by Det. Arndt in obtaining vaginal, oral, and
anal swabs from JonBenet's body.
(The results of these findings have yet to be made public.)
Dr. Meyer stated to Det. Arndt, that he observed red stains in the crotch area of JonBenet's panties when he performed an external visual examination.
Dr. Meyer also stated that the stain appeared to be consistent with blood. Dr. Meyer reported that he observed the pubic area of the body (which would
have been next to the red spot in the underwear) had no visible reddish stains. Dr. Meyers' opinion was that the evidence observed was consistent with
the child's pubic area having been wiped by a cloth.
(This shows that the killer did try to clean up the body and dispose of all of the evidence.)
Although a black fluorescent light was applied by a detective and there appeared to be something consistent with semen or seminal fluid, an exam by
the Colorado Bureau of investigation revealed no semen or seminal fluid was present.
( I believe it is possible that the undetermined marking was saliva.)
Linda Hoffman-Pugh (The Ramsey's housekeeper) was interviewed and made the following statement.
羨t least once a week in the 3 months before she died, JonBenet soiled herself during the night. Patsy would have her soiled underwear soaking in
the sink when I got there in the morning.'
This information according to Dr. Judianne Densen, (a nationally known forensic psychiatrist and expert in sex crimes against children) 疎dds even
more weight to the possibility that she was the victim of sexual abuse. Sexually abused children can lose control of their bladder and bowels for a
number of reasons. It may have been an subconscious attempt to halt abuse by making herself unpleasant and sexually unattractive to an abuser. Fear
and trauma caused by the abuse could have pushed the child to regress at times to an infantile stage.'
IV. The Ramsey's knew that they would not be strongly considered as suspects.
With the seemingly closeness that has been exhibited within the Boulder community, it should have been obvious that an indictment would not have been
placed against the Ramsey's. Most of the jurors had children. This would allow them to sympathize with the Ramsey's. The media was very widespread,
and with the length that the jury meet for, the media would have helped to influence their decision.
A. Errors by the District Attorney
The district attorney dismissed evidence collected by detectives. Search warrants were denied for 粗lementary investigative efforts' such as attempts
to obtain telephone and credit card reports, financial records, and medical records.
Prosecutors shared physical evidence and reports with lawyers for John and Patsy Ramsey.
Evidence remained in the laboratory untested as prosecutors and detectives argued on how to proceed with the case.
The district attorney denied search warrants for the clothing worn by the Ramsey's on the night of the murder.
When the Ramsey's first meet with police and district attorney investigators (4-30-97), the terms that the Ramsey's gave requested for copies of the
police reports that detailed the behavior of the Ramsey's on 12-26-96 as well as their prior statements.
(This undermined the entire investigative and interrogation process.)
B. Errors by the Boulder Police Department
Det. Arndt supplied a copy of the ransom note to Ramsey attorneys, thus giving the Ramsey's access to the note prior to giving most of the handwriting
samples
The police department failed to remain skeptical about the kidnaping. Even though there were no footprints in the snow around the home, and the length
of the ransom note showed that it took more than a few seconds to create it.
Police failed to follow proper procedure in questioning the parents.
Refused help from the FBI, who offered to keep the Ramsey's, their relatives and associates under surveillance.
A heavy, police style flashlight was noticed on the counter by one of the first police officers on the scene. None of the officers claimed it and when
he suggested that it be taken as possible evidence he was ignored by detectives.
(The autopsy shows JonBenet suffered a fractured skull caused by a heavy, blunt object. A flashlight did eventually get put into evidence, but it was
not the same flashlight, that flashlights' whereabouts are still undetermined. I believe that this flashlight was left on the counter and replaced
with another similar flashlight by The Ramsey's after the police had returned the house back over to them. The flashlight that was sent for
investigation had no prints on the casing or on the batteries. Anytime someone puts batteries in a flashlight they will use their hands and thus,
leave fingerprints. The flashlight was wiped of prints by the killer.)
The Boulder Police Department was prepared to turn the house back over to the Ramsey's the night of 12-26-96, but received orders from the DA's office
that they were not to leave the scene and were to retain possession of the house.
Failure to immediately seal off the entire property as a crime scene resulted in evidence contamination.
(The disappearance of JonBenet and the ransom note should have been enough to support this.)
Ramsey's and everyone else should have been taken to the police department and separated.
(This would take them out of their comfort zone, and allow the police to be in control.)
Failure to contain and/or remove friends of the Ramsey's further contaminated the scene.
Failure to adequately search the house that morning by police officials.
Allowing John Ramsey to find the body allowed more contamination.
Refusing help from a more experienced Denver Police Department.
The Ramsey's retention of a legal team hampered the investigation by throwing obstacles in the way.
The lack of cooperation between the police dept. and the DA's office hindered the investigation.
Because of the DA's office sharing information with the Ramsey's the Boulder police dept. became hesitant to share future information.
The media has covered this story since day one and has helped make it one of the most high profile murder cases in history. The media has focused on
the Ramsey's wealth, Patsy's background as a former beauty queen, the pageant videos, and the Ramsey's apparent lack of cooperation. The abuse of the
media has manipulated the public.
There was a known pedophile who lived in the immediate neighborhood that was investigated, but it took 6 months before Boulder authorities checked out
all of the registered pedophiles in their area.
V. Conclusion
I believe that the above facts and inferences show that the Ramsey's committed the crime. I believe that Patricia Ramsey was upset that JonBenet
constantly wet the bed, and became more upset when she began soiling the bed. I also believe that John Ramsey had been assaulting JonBenet sexually
and Patricia discovered this. This pushed Patricia over the edge and she planned and committed the murder. I believe that John was forced to help
Patricia cover the murder up because he know that he would be charged with murder as well.
