TV Personality Paula Yates Dies
http://wire.ap.org/APnews/?ITE=MIPOR&FRONTID=HOME
LONDON (AP) - TV personality Paula Yates, girlfriend of the late INXS singer
Michael Hutchence, was found dead at her London home on Sunday, police said.
She was 40.
Scotland Yard said the cause of death was not immediately known, and that an
autopsy would be scheduled. Detective Inspector Mike Christensen said there
were no signs of violence in the house.
He said the body was discovered by a family friend, and an ambulance and
police were called to the scene.
Yates was Hutchence's partner from 1994 until November 1997, when he
committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel room in Sydney, Australia.
She had a daughter with him in 1996, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily.
News reports in Britain had said Yates was treated for depression after
Hutchence's death.
In Sydney, Hutchence's father was reported to be ``absolutely shocked and
saddened'' by Yates' death.
Kell Hutchence's wife, Susie Hutchence, said her husband was ``very
distressed and very upset.''
Yates was also the former wife of pop musician Bob Geldof, with whom she had
three children.
``We are all so sad,'' Geldof said in a statement. ``The loss for all the
children is insupportable.''
Yates was a co-presenter in the 1980s on the music show ``The Tube.'' She
also had appeared on ``The Big Breakfast,'' an offbeat morning program where
she interviewed celebrity guests on a giant bed.
Am I out of it, or what? I've never heard of this woman, although I
have heard of INXS and, I think, Bob Geldof. (Of course, until I
re-read the article, I thought he was one of the two in partnership with
Steven Spielberg or whoever. Might still be, AFAIK.)

That poor girl will be *so embarrassed* when they call her name on
Graduation Day. OTOH, Moon Unit and Dweezel seem to be doing okay.
Haven't heard how Grace Slick's child is coping.

No, that's David Geffen I think! Bob Geldof is British, used to be in
Boomtown Rats band. He used to be married to Yates and they had three kids.
She wound up with Michael Hutchence, an Aussie with the band called INXS,
and he committed suicide while visiting Sydney (from London). Yates
apparently never got over it. There was some discussion about Hutchence's
demise here on the ng, because it took some time for the coroner to rule on
cause of death.

You should hear the name of Yates' three older girls with Geldof.
Trixiebelle is one. Pixie is another. I forget the other. Speaking of the
Zappa children, I saw Moon's name on some movie credit the other day
(without the Unit), as a producer I think. And didn't Zowie Bowie change
his name to Joey? What was Grace Slick's kid's name? I saw Gracie once on
a talk show when she said having a kid made her give up drugs. Watching a
two-yr-old while on acid was way too mind blowing, she said. Or something
like that. It was sorta funny at the time. Maybe ya had to be there.

Geldof is also credited with creating the concept for the series "Survivor,"
one of his lessor accomplishments. He's most known for the "Live Aid"
concerts given to raise money for the Ethiopia famine. Later the idea
was copied by Willie for the "Farm Aid" concerts.
Geffen is American and created DreamWorks SKG with Spielberg and
Katzenberg. He dated Cher before he came out of the closet.

Grace Slick had a daughter by Paul Kantner named China. I think she was
a dj for MTV for a short time. It's not really too bad of a name, considering
there was also Chynna Phillips, daughter of Michelle and John Phillips of the
Mamas and the Papas. I always liked Grace Slick, I've seen her on talk
shows and she seems down-to-earth. I think she was a model in her early
years but looks quite different today.
Yes, the Live Aid accomplishment was incredible and was, I believe, the
primary motivator for him getting his title. I didn't know his connection
to Survivor.
Didn't Geffen date *lots* of women before emerging?

China's a good name, not radical compared to the others. Grace Slick
invented 'outrageous' and was also one very smart and creative woman
(probably still is!).

David Geffen made his first steps in the biz when he was employed by Crosby,
Stills & Nash to administer their business dealings in 1968.

Grace Slick (born Grace Wing, on Oct 30, 1939, in Chicago, Il) joined Jefferson
Airplane after their first LP in 1966 and brought in 2 songs ("Somebody To Love"
& "White Rabbit") written with husband at the time, Jerry Slick and
brother-in-law Darby Slick.
Grace - a former fashion model - was singer for *the Great Society* before
joining JA in late 1966.
Daughter China Kantner (future MTV-VJ and actress, born Jan 25, 1971) can be seen
on the cover of the LP "Sunfighter". She just escaped being named god (with a
small g)....
Quote Grace Slick:
That song *San Francisco* by Scott McKenzie, was corny and cute. We weren‘t quite
that cute, and it struck us funny. Donovan came over to play the Fillmore West at
one point, and I think he brought his father with him. He was dressed in this
long, East-Indian-looking arrangement and was throwing flowers into the crowd.
And we‘re going, "Oh, Lord in heaven." Because we were kind of scruffy, most of
us. We‘d get up onstage and play, and we didn‘t even bother to dress up very
much. Once in a while, Janis would get a Louisiana-mama outfit or I would wear an
LAPD uniform or something like that. But the way we were was not the way they saw
us. The interpretation was just a little too cute and a little too commercial.
But we were amused by it. We just thought, "Okay, if that‘s the way you see us,
go ahead."

Yep, I think I was thinking of David Geffen. (All Gs look alike,
y'know!) Now that I've read the posts, I do kinda remember Geldof from
"Live Aid".) Yep, it was Geffen...Spielberg + Katzenberg.

So, Joey Bowie is "all that much better than" "Zowie Bowie?"

I was thinking of "god", with a small "G". However, a subsequent post
seems to say that the child never actually got that name. I've always
wondered, if that person is the subject of the sentence, do you
capitalize it and waste all of Grace Slick's efforts in naming her baby?
Linda
I thought that this discussion was about the death of Paula Yates - who
was a television present (outrageous) and novelist. She was also a
mother to Bob Geldof's (Sir Bob) three children - Fifi Trixibelle,
Peaches and Pixie as well as girlfriend of Michael Hutchence and mother
of his daughter - Heavenly Hinaari Tiger Lily.
She seemed never to get over the death of the love of her life,
Michael - and lived a very depressing and sad last three years of her
life.
