This was a very arrogant and money-grubbing judge. He belittled
defendants and often threw them in a holding cell for half an hour or
so to soften them up for the cash shakedown.

He shamelessly used first person pronouns when referring to who
receives the fine money. "You didn't give me any money yet!", for
example. It was fairly obvious he, personally, was somehow getting a
cut of everything he took in.

I don't know because I avoid the town, but it's unlikely much has
changed since his departure from the bench. The entire municipal
government in Riverside, Missouri (part of the Kansas City metro) is
just a well-dressed gang of robbers.

Former Riverside judge faces cocaine charge
By GLENN E. RICE
The Kansas City Star

A former Riverside municipal judge was charged today in Platte County
with possession of cocaine.

Charles M. McKeon, 48, of Parkville was not in custody this afternoon.
Earlier this month, McKeon pleaded guilty in Kansas City Municipal
Court to driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene
of an accident for an incident on Feb. 26. He received a suspended
sentence and was placed on two years' probation.

During the arrest for those charges, police said they found an
off-white, rock-like substance in the seams of the driver's seat that
later tested positive for cocaine.

Court records indicate that toxicology reports showed the presence of
cocaine, marijuana and alcohol in McKeon's body at the time of the
arrest. According to the records, McKeon's blood-alcohol content was
.289 percent.

Police said McKeon's car struck a vehicle several times while in a
fast-food restaurant's drive-through near Northwest 64th Street and
Interstate 29. He drove away when people from the other vehicle
approached him.

Police arrested McKeon shortly after near Northwest Barry Road and
I-29. He refused to take a breath test."It is sad day for the entire
court system when a former judicial official becomes a criminal
defendant," Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd said. "But I will
do my duty in this case."

McKeon resigned as Riverside municipal judge after his Feb. 26 arrest.
He had held the post 12 years.

Under his plea agreement on the municipal charges, McKeon must pay
restitution for a vehicle he damaged and attend a 30-day inpatient
substance-abuse facility, according to authorities.

McKeon could not be reached for comment. He is a lawyer who practices
in the Kansas City area.

In May 1996, Missouri revoked McKeon's driving privileges for one
year because he refused a request by Kansas City police officers to
submit to a breath analysis. Later that year, McKeon successfully
petitioned for a hardship license.
