Over in Texas, a 30 year old fellow named Luis Salinas killed his
girlfriend, dismembered her, and scattered the body parts all across the
fine city of Laredo. Luis killed Elisa, his gal pal, on Thursday, in
Austin, Texas, and drove 220 miles to Laredo. Once in Laredo, he dumped a
suitcase containing her torso on a roadside, together with her ID. That is
strange, why would he include her ID along with her torso? The whole idea
of dismembering and dumping a body in a far off city is to prevent police
from making an easy or quick ID of the murdered person. In the immortal
words of Spock, the Vulcan: "This is illogical" behavior on the part of
Luis.
The torso was found by police, along with the ID, and then Luis was
easily found, because he was driving her car. Once caught, Luis took the
police on a tour of their town, telling them and showing them exactly
where he had dumped the other body parts of Elisa, including the head, the
pelvis & legs, and the arms, all three of which were dumped in different
locations of the city. Luis certainly did a fair job of dismemberment, but
his modus operandi for disposal of the body parts was very illogical and
poorly thought-out.
An autopsy on the body parts is pending, as police try to figure out
exactly how she was killed. As to why Luis did it, police just shrug their
shoulders and say "we don't know". I'm sure that Luis knows why he did it,
and that is the main thing. He is under no obligation to satisfy the
prurient curiousity of the police or of the unwashed masses that
constitute the public-at-large.
Take care, JOE

LAREDO, Texas (AP) - A man took police on a gruesome tour around the city,
pointing out pieces of a woman's body he left in different places, police
said.
Luis Salinas, 30, was charged with murder and held on $1 million bond
Saturday in the death of his girlfriend, Elisa Costilla.
Salinas admitted killing Ms. Costilla, 31, in an Austin apartment Thursday
and driving her body 220 miles to Laredo, where Ms. Costilla had recently
left to move in with Salinas.
An off-duty firefighter found a suitcase containing her torso on a
roadside Friday morning. Ms. Costilla's identification was nearby.
Salinas was found driving her car in Laredo Friday night. He ran away when
police pulled the car over, but was caught in a tree after a brief chase.
Salinas later took police around Laredo, showing them where five other
parts of Ms. Costilla's body had been discarded alongside different roads,
Laredo police spokesman Tony Reyes said.
Ms. Costilla's head was found in a plastic bag near a residential area,
her pelvis and legs were found in a trash bin a few blocks away and her
arms were found in a bag along the interstate.
Authorities were conducting an autopsy to determine how Ms. Costilla, a
social services worker who had entered a doctoral program at the
University of Texas, was killed.
``As for why he did any of this - we don't know,'' Reyes said.
