Hey gang...

For those of you following the truck driving serial-killer, I found this
article in today's (Mar. 21st) edition of the Knoxville News-Sentinel
(Knoxville, Tennessee):

ANOTHER BODY FOUND; SERIAL KILLER POSSIBILITY CONSIDERED

KINGSPORT [TN]- For the second time in less than two
months, the body of a slain woman has been found near Interstate 81.
Police are investigating whether the women were killed by
a serial murderer.
The latest discovery was made by a passer-by shortly
before 7 a.m. Sunday. No identification was found.

On Jan. 23, the body of Brenda Kay Hagy, 45, of
Bloomington, Ind., was dumped near the interstate near Bristol [TN].
She had been strangled.
Police believe Hagy may have been a victim of "Stargazer,"
the CB handle of a trucker who reportedly has been picking up and
killing truck-stop prostitutes and groupies for a decade.

Authorities have said two other [East Tennessee] deaths
may also be the work of Stargazer: that of a 1985 victim found in
Greene County and a 1991 victim discovered near Tri-Cities Regional
Airport.

---------------------------

Very interesting, eh? And to my knowledge, this is the first time the CB
handle "Stargazer" has been mentioned. Odd choice of handle... If taken
in an astrological context, I find it chillingly similar to "Zodiac."

I'll keep everyone posted if any more info is published locally.

Scott:

Thanks for the info. If the killer does use the handle, "Stargazer," I
wonder if the FBI doesn't know his identity but simply has no evidence to
nail him. Hmmmm.

Well, they may have made a mistake in publishing the "Stargazer"
handle... I dug out my old CB radio last night , hooked it up and turned
it on to find no less than *THREE* people calling themselves "Stargazer,"
one of which threatened to "mass-murder" the other two... Hoo boy!

The question that springs to my mind is: if they know THAT much about
the guy, why haven't they arrested any suspects? And, like you, I'd also
like to know why they're just now "getting the investigation going"???
This guy appears to have been active for over a DECADE!

If serial killers were so easy to catch the Zodiac, Green River, etc.,
would have been caught long ago. Know the habits and traits and parts
of the motivation of a serial killers is a very different thing than
apprehending one.

I am certain that they are doing everything that they can to do so.
But it is the nature of the crime to remain anonymous for years.
Just remember that a number of these characters are captured by accident,
not design.

Very true. Today's (March 27) Bristol Herald Courier paper
brought up the copycat theory, which is probably happening as
well. This guy has remained anonymous for years but dumping
two bodies within 1/2 mile within a short period of time sounds
like he is either over confident that he will never get caught
or he is wanting to get caught. But you're right, he'll
probably be pulled over for a speeding violation, let go, then
be questioned again at a later time as a possible suspect,
let go, etc. etc... until some overworked detective puts 2 and
2 together by accident.
