The best book on Ed Kemper is Cheyney's THE COED KILLER, recently reissued
as WHY-THE SERIAL KILLER IN AMERICA by a small publisher. It may still be
in print.

Another book only partially covering Big Ed is URGE TO KILL, a very
obscure paperback with lotsa neat stuff on the other Santa cruz killers of
the era. Hunt hard for this one...

Does anyone out there know of any books written about Ed Kemper? I've
seen interviews and documentaries with Kemper and read a little about him
in Robert Ressler's "Whoever Fights Monsters", but nothing more. Can
someone give me any information? I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks...

Margaret Cheney wrote a book called The Co-Ed Killer. It has been
republished under a title, something like The Serial Killer in America
and is currently available from a small publisher in California. I
have this book but it's not handy at the moment. I'll see if I can dig
it up. It costs about $12 and you can mail order it. It has allegedly
been "revised" but I couldn't find too much difference between the
reprint and the original edition.

Donald West wrote a book called Sacrifice Unto Me, a Pyramid paperback,
published around 1975. I have been searching for this book unsuccessfully
for several years. If anyone has it and wants to sell it, please write
to me!

You can also find bits about Kemper in various compilation books about
serial killers.

I'd just like to add my two cents by saying that I found The Coed
Killer/Why: The Serial Killer in America to be an unsatisfying read about
a fascinating murderer.

Let me close by demanding that the fantabulous Harold Schechter make Big
Ed the subject of his next book!

There is also a video out about serial killers. It discusses and
reinacts Kempers crimes. It also shows interviews with Kemper. I don't
remember the title right now, but if you are still out there, and still
interested, E-mail me and I'll dig it out. I have a copy of it somewhere in
my video colletion. I taught Criminal Investigation and used to show it to
my classes.

Let me know if you're still interested

Check out a video called "Murder-No Apparent Motive". It was an HBO
special
back in about 1985. Lots of Kemper stuff, and Ted Bundy too!
