Hello,

Looks like the Netherlands has itself a pretty lively and dedicated
anti-social predator, in the form of a 41 year fellow identified only as Paul
G. Way back in the late 1970's, Paul tried to hijack a KLM jetliner, using a
toy gun. Captured when fellow passengers and the crew of the plane overpowered
him, Paul has been under psychaitric "observation" ever since then, apparently
spending most of his time locked up in loony bins. But our enterprising fellow
managed to ESCAPE from the loony bin where he was being held, on Sunday.

Paul had a very specific GOAL and INTENTION in mind, for what he would do
once he escaped yesterday. He immediately hopped a train and rode to the main
city of Amsterdam. Once there, he immediately went to one of the city's most
famous and prestigious museums. He bought a ticket, entered the museum armed
with a small knife, and SLASHED a famous Pablo Picasso original painting, worth
$5-7 MILLION dollars. He CARVED OUT a small circle in the painting, essentially
destroying it. Well, at least he had good taste, going after one of the WORLD'S
most famous artist's originial painting.

After committing this slashing attack, Paul walked out of the museum and went
directly to the publishing headquarters of one of the Netherland's most popular
newspapers. Once there, he TOLD a news reporter about what he had just done,
The reporter called police, who rushed tro the scene and took Paul into
custody. Well, it was CERTAINLY an adventure-filled day for Paul. He escaped
from his loony bin, rode a train, went to the capital city, got ahold of a
knife, went to a famous museum, destroyed a multi-million dollar painting, went
to a newspaper publishing building, told a reporter what he had done, and got
himself recaptured by police, ALL in the span of only 12 hours or so!

It's interesting how Paul had NO desire to ENJOY his freedom, or to try to
live as a fugitive, maybe escape from the country and start a new life. Nope,
all he wanted to do was SLASH a famous Pablo Picasso painting, and then BOAST
about his accomplishment. I wonder whether Paul specifically wanted to slash
THIS painting, whether he KNEW exactly where this painting was located and what
it looked like, PRIOR to his escape from the loony bin? Cops say that Paul is a
PRIME suspect in another art-assault incident that took place about 10 years
ago, when someone threw paint at another VERY expensive and famous painting.

Well, in this case at least, Paul got his chosen job done very nicely, and
even might have had a chance to make a CLEAN getaway, if only he hadn't chosen
to turn himself in by going to the newspaper and confessing, immediately
afterwards.

Restoration experts say that they will try to restore the slashed painting,
but it looks like Paul and his knife did a pretty good job of damaging it, in
such a way that COMPLETE restoration, with no visible signs of the damage that
was done, appears to be very difficult if not impossible to accomplish.

Take care, JOE

Psychiatric patient arrested in slashing of Picasso painting

May 17, 1999

By William J. Kole, Associated Press

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — Dutch police questioned a mental patient today
after he escaped from a psychiatric clinic, hopped a train to Amsterdam and
severely slashed a famous Picasso painting in one of the capital's most
prestigious art museums.

The virtual destruction of "Woman Nude Before Garden,'' a 1956 oil on canvas by
the abstract master, stunned the art world and the Stedelijk Museum of Modern
Art, where another mentally disturbed man slashed a work by American abstract
impressionist Barnett Newman in 1997.

"Everyone is very shocked. I find it horrible what happened, and I can't
believe it has happened again,'' said Saskia Bruines, Amsterdam's city
councilor for culture. "We must step up security. We must ask ourselves what we
could be doing that we haven't already done.''

The Picasso, valued at between $5 million and $7.5 million, was slashed Sunday
afternoon by a mental patient identified by Dutch police only as Paul G. The
museum, which is insured for the damage, said restoration experts would try
their best to repair the painting.

Amsterdam police spokesman Cees Rameau said the 41-year-old man had escaped
earlier in the day from a psychiatric clinic in Utrecht, 45 miles southeast of
Amsterdam. Officials said he was a top suspect in an incident at Amsterdam's
Rijksmuseum 10 years ago, in which someone threw paint at another unidentified
masterpiece.

The man has been under the supervision of the clinic since 1978, when he tried
to hijack a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines jet from Amsterdam to Madrid using a toy
gun. Passengers and crew members overpowered him and he was arrested and
convicted on assault charges.

Rameau said the man headed straight for the Stedelijk Museum, which has a
world-class collection of modern art including five other Picassos, bought a
ticket, went to the Picasso and used a small razor knife to carve a large
circle out of the middle of the canvas.

He then went to the headquarters of Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf, where
he boasted of his crime to a reporter. The newspaper called police, and the man
was arrested in the lobby, where he allegedly threatened to kill the journalist
in question, De Telegraaf reported today.

The Stedelijk Museum bought "Woman Nude Before Garden'' in 1981 for $950,000.
The 51-inch by 64-inch painting, done in cool hues of blue and green, depicts a
naked woman reclining in a chair in front of an open window with a lush garden
in the background.

The model for the painting, which was done in Cannes, France, was Jacqueline
Roque, Picasso's newlywed wife at the time.

YOU take care. I suppose you do a lot of things for attention. Is this

Read my 16,000 Usenet posts, via http://www.dejanews.com, if you want to find
out about what my slaveowners gave me, thanks to your malevolent and diseased
society.

>Are your parents still living?

I do not know if any relative is living or death. All contact was severed at
age 17, by me.

>Or did you HAVE any parents?

Two of them, biological parents, who stayed together throughout my entire
childhood. A real traditional Sacred Family Unit, and it is the fault of YOUR
society, that they were allowed to obtain possession of me upon my birth. That
CHOICE made by your malevolent society, is what gives me the right today, to
SLAUGHTER every man, woman, and child on planet earth, if I so choose to do.
