Jake's Roadhouse in Arvada was the site of a deadly 2020 altercation between the Mongols Motorcycle Club and the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club. Ten suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The APD said it worked with municipal, state and federal partners investigating what was determined to have been a fight between the Mongols Motorcycle Club and the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club that resulted in the death of William "Kelly" Henderson — who was in the Hells Angels— and several injuries.
A total of 33 criminal counts were filed against the 10 suspects, including: first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and vehicular assault. Suspects were apprehended in Colorado, California, Utah and Florida, authorities said.
According to Arvada police, on the night of July 11, 2020, officers responded to the report of a shooting at Jake's Roadhouse Bar, 5980 Lamar St. At the scene, officers discovered Henderson, who had been shot to death, two men with multiple gunshot wounds and a fourth man who had suffered a traumatic brain injury.
The investigation determined that the altercation between the two street gangs had resulted in Henderson's death. The suspects also are alleged to have assaulted and attempted to murder two other Hells Angels members, according to authorities
Meanwhile, authorities said a community member who tried to help the injured men was severely beaten with a helmet and run over by a motorcycle, leaving the victim with life-long injuries.
Additionally, two other community members, who were riding motorcycles in the area, are alleged to have been run off the road by members of the Mongols, and both of these victims sustained several injuries, according to the investigation.
The APD said it worked on the investigation in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), The Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement Network (RAVEN), Aurora Police Department, Thornton Police Department, and the First Judicial District Attorney's Office.
Local law enforcement agencies in Florida, California and Utah also assisted with the arrests of the 10 suspects, who all had been apprehended as of last Wednesday, authorities said.
"These violent defendants have been removed from the street because of the perseverance of dedicated law enforcement men and women from Arvada PD and multiple other agencies," said David S. Booth, special agent in charge at the Denver Office of the ATF. "We will not stand for violence and this case illustrates the time and effort we will put in to remove these destructive individuals from our communities.”

Arvada Homicide Investigation Case AR20011326
On July 11, 2020, at 10:50 pm, Arvada Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 5900 block of Lamar St. Officers arrived to a chaotic scene and discovered one man shot to death, two men with multiple gunshot wounds, and a fourth man who suffered a traumatic brain injury.
The investigation determined there was an altercation between the Mongols (MMC) OMG and the Hells Angels (HAMC) OMG, resulting in the death of HAMC member William “Kelly” Henderson. The suspects also are alleged to have assaulted and attempted to murder two other HAMC members. A community member who tried to help the injured was severely beaten with a helmet and run over with a motorcycle; that victim has life-long injuries. Two additional community members were riding motorcycles in the area and were violently run off the road by members of the MMC and both of these victims also sustained serious injuries.
The Arvada Police Department completed thousands of hours of investigation into this complex case involving two rival motorcycle clubs. The workload was shared with Municipal, State and Federal partners. APD has worked in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), The Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement Network (RAVEN), Aurora, Colorado Police Department, and the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
As of January 26th, 2022, Law Enforcement Agencies from Florida to California arrested ten suspects in four states.
Local field divisions of the ATF provided support and local Law Enforcement Agencies from the following jurisdictions;
Florida: Tampa Police Department and Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department.
Colorado: Thornton Police, R.A.V.E.N. Task Force.
Utah: Davis County Sheriff’s Department.
California: Riverside and Orange County Sheriff's Departments, California. California Highway Patrol.
Arvada PD would like to thank all of these very professional organizations and highlight the fact that ten high-profile arrests were made for violent crime warrants without incident.
From the Denver Office of the ATF, Special Agent in Charge David S. Booth:
“These violent defendants have been removed from the street because of the perseverance of dedicated law enforcement men and women from Arvada PD and multiple other agencies. We will not stand for violence and this case illustrates the time and effort we will put in to remove these destructive individuals from our communities.”
The hard work of the APD and its partner agencies has culminated in the issuance of arrest warrants for ten suspects related to 33 criminal counts.

As police investigate a shooting that occurred July 11, in which one Arvadan was killed and three others were injured, the nearby community is grappling not only with loss, but also with surprise.
Several community members view the incident — which police say is being investigated as a conflict between two motorcycle clubs — as unexpected and out of the ordinary. Detective Dave Snelling said that while the Arvada Police Department has been aware of motorcycle clubs in the city, he doesn’t recall any similar violent incidents occurring in recent years.
Doug Jacobsen, the owner of Jake’s Roadhouse — a bar that is located near the scene of the shooting — said that in his 16 years of ownership, he has never seen that kind of violence between bikers.
Likewise, for the friends and families of the victims, the shooting was the last thing they were expecting.
Arvadans Ryan McPherson was struck by someone and injured. Fellow Arvadan William Henderson, known to his friends as Kelly, died of a gunshot. Two others were injured but fled the scene before police arrived. Snelling said the department is not releasing the names of those two individuals at this time.
The incident took place on Lamar Street around 10 p.m., just as Nightwolf, a local rock band that was playing at Jake’s that night, was taking a break between sets.
Musicians McPherson and John Akal were outside when they heard the sound of motorcycles nearby, Akal said. Two customers sitting on the patio told them they had heard gunshots not long before.
McPherson heard an injured man calling for help across the street. He rushed to assist the injured man and was hit in the back of the head by an unknown assailant, according to Akal.
McPherson was taken to a local hospital. As of July 24, he was in stable condition and was still being treated for a brain injury, said McPherson’s wife, Darcy McPherson.
“Everything looks really optimistic and hopeful,” she said. “It’s a long road ahead, but it sounds like we should get him back.”
As she thinks to the events leading to her husband’s hospitalization, Darcy said Ryan acted exactly as she would have expected him to. Wherever they’ve gone, every time he’s seen somebody struggling or in need, he’s always stepped into help, she said.
“It’s so within who he is and his character. He’s just amazing,” she said. “In our family, he’s our quiet rock.”
For years, Ryan McPherson has been a part of the Arvada music community, from regularly playing local bars or proposing to Darcy at the D Note, a restaurant and music venue on Grandview Avenue that closed several years ago.
“Music is how Ryan communicates,” Darcy said. “Even when you walk into our house, we have a painting of guitars and mics — it’s just everywhere. He is his music.”
Since the incident, the Arvada community has come together to raise money to help the McPhersons during Ryan’s hospitalization. Most recently, on July 25, multiple Olde Town businesses came together to donate some of their daily proceeds to the McPhersons.
“We are very blessed to have a community that cares for him,” Darcy said.
As of July 25, Henderson was the one victim who had passed away due to the incident. Friends say they remember Henderson as someone who was always laughing and was incredibly passionate about what mattered to him — especially his connection with his wife and the community he found in the Hells Angels, which he wanted to join since he was a teenager.
“He really liked the idea that he could be anywhere and he would be part of that community,” said Arvadan Jennifer Enochs, who first met Henderson through the Arvada Chamber, in which Henderson and his wife have been actively involved.
“The excitement when he actually became a Hells Angel was one of the biggest moments I remember about him,” Enochs said.
Arvadan Debbie Sloan said she particularly remembers Henderson for his commitment to helping others, highlighting Henderson for shaving to fundraise for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation alongside her daughter, Erin.
“He was there to support kids, to support St. Baldrick’s, to support Erin,” Sloan said. “He didn’t have to have a connection to cancer to want to help.”
https://arvadapress.com/stories/aftermath-of-an-unexpected-arvada-shooting,313220 Other media reports say that the injured musician has permanent life long injuries.
St. Baldrick's Foundation is a 3 star rated charity. Only 58% of the money raised goes to research and cures. A good charity gives 70% to the cause. BC Cancer agency is good.
What percentage of my money goes to research?
In fiscal year 2020-2021, of every dollar raised, 58% funded research and advocacy to find cures, 34% was spent on fundraising (credit card processing fees, postage, printing, t-shirts, staff, etc.) and 8% was spent to administer the organization and its funds (accounting, audit, human resources, insurance, etc.). St. Baldrick's takes its responsibility to be efficient and good stewards of every dollar donated very seriously and strives to put the most funding possible into the hands of researchers who can cure childhood cancers.
